At the age of three in the middle of Russia's far northern Winter she was abandoned, injured, at a bus stop where she was rescued and sent to an orphanage. At the age of 5 she was still traumatized and unable to speak properly. @Pure Blood basically a few singers can produce multiple tones at the same time. country is famous for having two simultaneous tones. but this girl is doing more than 2. in essence she is her own built in auto tune and effects studio without cheating with electronics.

Here are three reasons why Diana doesn't sound human. First, she is a dramatic contralto, which is the absolute rarest type of female voice. It allows her to sing very dramatic/powerful, very (I mean VERY) deep, very dark, very rich. Second, she has a spectacular larynx. She's been called the vocal Eighth Wonder of the World. Third, she is polyphonic, which means she can produce multiple harmonics within her voice at the same time. This is what allows her to sound like two people at once. (more below) When you add all that up you basically get a person who creates her own auto-tune. She doesn't need electronic auto-tune. She IS her own auto-tune. I very much enjoyed watching your "discovery" reaction to Diana. She has an amazing life story...which started badly when her birth mother tried to kill her when she was only a toddler. God had other plans for her! She was in an orphanage at 3 1/2 then adopted by one of the nursing staff at the orphanage at age 5. The adoptive mother, Irina, is the source of love and support Diana needed...God bless her! Diana was having difficulty speaking so a speech therapist recommended that Diana sing to help develop her speech. Her unusual contralto singing voice was discovered and then nurtured by vocal coaches. She won many singing competitions and finally got on "You are Super!" because it is a competition for disadvantaged children who grew up without blood parent. She won 2nd season at 14, then was invited to the "Super Season Of You are Super" along with previous winners of the show. She won the super season as well at age 15! She is one of the most popular singers in Russia as well as the world. This performance of "Can''t Help Falling In Love" is part of a new program called 'Showmaskgoon" with 9 singers who judge each other on the Eurovision point system from 2-9. Each week singers are assigned a category and song to sing. Diana's first category was this Elvis song in the Grammy category. She blew the other singers/judges away! She received all but one 9 and was in the top spot at end of show. There are 6 more shows to go. The 4th episode is this coming Saturday. Angel, I just came across your reaction to Diana Ankudinova singing Wicked Game. Diana Ankudinova was only 15 years old when this performance took place in May of 2019 during a show called "You Are Super!". This cover of Chris Isaak's classic "Wicked Game" now belongs to her and it really demonstrates that Diana Ankudinova has a true contralto sound. A contralto is the lowest female voice type and is also very rare. In particular, Diana's tone quality, timbre, roundness, and depth of her voice along with her resonance, further define Diana as a "dramatic contralto", the rarest of the rare contralto voice types. Diana is also a true polyphonic singer which in itself is also a very rare talent and it's defined as a vocal technique that creates two different tones at the same time which adds harmonic overtones and undertones that make it sound like two different voices at the same time. This polyphonic sound is why some people mistakingly think she is using autotune, a voice synthesizer or vocoder, or something else to artificially manipulate her sound. Others think there's another voice singing in the background off stage, or she is singing over a pre-recorded vocal track. There is no artificial manipulation of Diana's voice going on at all. What you hear is all Diana Ankudinova. Also, on average the majority of female singers usually don't reach their full vocal maturity until they are somewhere roughly between 24 to 28 years of age. I am looking forward to what Diana will sound like when she reaches full vocal maturity.
