I loved Iz and listened to his song over and over as a kid. And this music video made me cry so hard when it showed LIVE FOOTAGE of people at Iz's funeral and they poured his ashes into the water. Ugh! CUE THE ELEPHANT TEARS FOLKS! Man its been over 20 years since he died and I still get emotional over it. He had such a sweet and heavenly voice. And I know he is up in Heaven now singing in that big choir in Heaven still blowing peoples minds away with his talent. He finally made it to that land he dreamed up Somewhere Over The Rainbow!💖 R.I.P. Iz!😘
This song makes me cry eveytime. One it's from my fav childhood movie. 2 my Grandmother would always watch this with me. She just passed in April of 2020.
Huh? Eddie vedder and all members of pearl jam are still very much alive Ignore this comment lol, I'm currently watching his reaction to pearl jam but for some reason the comment section is for a completely diffrent video
I wish more people actually look him up, he did a lot of good music, espacially for his folks. :) (What I've seen yet, he was a really big star back than)
@Jennifer Babros,,, have you heard him, do 'What a Wonderful World? A lot of times they'll combine this one with that one. Way too soon,, a beautiful soul,,, bring me to tears,, and the send off,, A celebration of him,,
Wow Mr. V never thought I’d see this song on your channel. IZ was a gentle giant with a big heart loved by everyone. Search White sandy beach for another beautiful song. It is what it IZ. 🌴😎🌈Aloha 🤙🏼
@@evagelinadicante9840 It was released first in 1990 but got worldwide attention in 1993 when it was included on his album Facing Future with an acoustic rendition :)
I am an old school hardcore dude. Played drums and guitar in heavy metal bands across the nation....that was a persona I used to mask my horrible upbringing. I am 59 years old now. Everything has a way of coming back around. I'm just an old softy and the first time I heard this rendition many years ago I cried like a fucking baby.
Unexpected tears came to my eyes when I heard you say there was no grass where you live. Yes, you need some green in your life - everybody does. Thank you for this reaction. :)
Braddah IZ always gives me chicken skin! His death was a big loss. I lived in Hawaii back then and I remember his funeral took about a week because so many people wanted to pay respect. White Sandy Beach is my favorite of his songs.
Duncan Bates true. Jews have been slaughtered by the Church , pogroms ( massacre raids) , ritually burned on Easter for centuries. The church taught that all Jews were “ Christ killers”.
@@TheDivayenta who burned Jews in Easter? What church " slaughtered" the Jews? Pogroms were state ran not Church. Yes, there was prejudice against the Jews within Christian history but this is being corrected through ecumenical teachings.
roi grose All throughout the Middle Ages Jews were slaughtered in Europe. Easter still has the “ burning of Judas” in Latin America and Poland, symbolically now - but the message is clear. The Holocaust didn’t come out of nowhere. The State and the Catholic Church were one and the same in the Middle Ages. . Here’s some more info: alphahistory.com/holocaust/medieval-anti-semitism/
@@TheDivayenta Yes, theres bad history, yet it's also true that hundreds of thousands of Jews were saved from nazi Germany through the agency of the Catholic Church during the 1930's and 40's.The prejudice against the Jews in places like Poland stems from a cultural discrimination and a particular historical background. To say that State and Church are one and the same is a sweeping statement and cant be applied to most instances of persecution.
This was played at my moms funeral as well. I’m sorry to hear of your loss. But hopefully this song brings you back to a place of memories with that person, like it does for me. ❤️
I had the pleasure of traveling to Oahu 22 weeks a year, for nearly 3 years, and I can't tell you how many times I heard this song, and to this day, it still makes me cry. Israel Kamakawiwoʻole is absolutely the embodiment of the pacific life... maybe cuz I was born on Guam, but I think everyone needs to go to a pacific island and find out what Island Time is all about.
My late dad was raised in Oahu for some of his childhood, he always spoke really fondly of the time and the place, took me many times and showed me some of the more 'local' spots on the islands that he knew. He LOVED IZ for both the music, and for how much the man loved his home and really tried to make it better through compassion and speaking out against the problems they faced; this video makes me cry every time too.
@@laurademarrais3248 E kala mai ʻoe iaʻu, but that's not quite right. It's Kuh-muh-kuh-vee-voh-oh-lay. It means "The Fearless Eye". Mahalo for supporting Hawaiian culture!
Laura, thank you for caring! IZ inspired a lot of love, and still does. Now, I would love to get everybody who has responded to this video to listen to him singing in the Hawaiian language, which is really his best work. And of course there are endless other great Hawaiian artists who almost nobody on the mainland has ever heard.
Iz's last name phonetically: KAH - MAKAH - VEE - VOH - OH - LAY. Say each one individually then progress to running it all together. There! Perfect! Now you sound like a Hawaiian! Geevum!
LISTEN TO EVA CASSIDY SING THIS! You’ll be blown away by it! Make sure you have Kleenex, because SHE’S THAT GOOD! She passed away, too, from cancer in 1996. Her rendition is FLAWLESS!!!
Oh dude this is so beautiful. He did something so special with it. Took it to another level. He was Hawaiian. It's in the soundtrack to Meet Joe Black 🎬 I had never heard it either, til I watched that movie a few years ago.
I think it’s also in 50 First Dates? The Adam Sandler/Drew Barrymore movie. I think it’s the song playing when she looks out of the window, and realizes she’s on a sailboat.
I love your reaction to this, you are so right, this song does make a difference. We need more positive vibrations in this world. The darkness of negativity cannot, will not thrive in the light of being and doing things that are positive. Be the light. Edit: I've just subscribed, cause your just so darn cute, and, your light is shining bright. Thank you for being you. You bring a smile to my face whenever I see you appreciate the music I grew up with. Lilli
May Israel RIP. I have tears streaming down my face. Your right it is a calming healing song. The world has me so full of anxiety. I needed a good cry. Music can truly heal, you are 100% correct. Keep this song on your playlist for peace!
Love this man's music ! He has an album named facing future you should look it up online and give it a listen, it will make you feel so good and take your mind off the day to day crap. Thx for reacting to brother IZ...♡
This beautiful soul was of nothing but LOVE ❤️❤️....LOVE shout to everyone!! Let's spread love an peace! #mrvideo, you're the BEST on YT for reactors. Thank you. ✌️❤️
As others have said, those were his ashes and that was his memorial ceremony. I lived in Hawaii at the time, and his death shook the island...so much sadness and greatfulness for his talent. Many years later, and 7 years ago, my son passed away. His mom and I took great comfort in playing this song at his funeral. Love you Eddie....forever.
I agree, this version of this song should be broadcast every day to sooth the troubles in the world. It give's a very peaceful feeling and we need that now.
Duuuuude! You had me tearing up a little with this one. I lived in Hawai'i for 9 months of my life and I've never experienced a more beautiful people or place. You brought me back there when you spoke on wanting to be in a place with so much nature and beauty...a paradise. I believe we all long for this, not only physically, but emotionally, spiritually etc. You're right too that we should be sending this type of music out on the airwaves much more. Much love and respect, and of course Aloha brudda.
Many years ago, when i got seperated from little boy for a year, this is the song he said he listened to when he missed me. 😢😔 This song always brings out strong emotions in me. Its truly the most beautiful song ever.
I heard this song during a perfect moment. I was on Maui and I was sitting having a mai tai in an open air bar. This song came on and the island breeze and the sun, the smell in the air of the beautiful flowers on the island, I felt perfect. I had no worries and felt total relaxation and happiness. You don't get many of those in life. 💞🌺🍹🌈
IZ did one take at 3am at recording studio. Stored five years until it was used as a filler song on an album which became one of Hawaiian music's most popular albums ever.
Honeeee!!! You did THIS!! Mad props! I just moved from Hawaii after 32 years living there. I had had this version played at my Moms wake in 2004. It’s beautiful & magical to me. Hawaii has my heart, Hawaii is my heart. Braddah IZ is the epitome of local kine music in HawaIi. He was a master at his art, as you now know. Mad love , honey! You rock! For realz!
@@dirtykoala8965 I wouldn't say "better," because Judy's is a bona fide classic; one of the best songs ever written, by one of the best singers in American musical history. But his is more gentle and natural sounding, and even with the missed lyrics is a great performance of a great song. It doesn't take away from one for it to be great in its own right.
Hey Mr. V, I lived in Hawaii but not the Island IZ was from, all tho I did visit that one(Oahu) a few times. That volcano you saw spewing lava, that's the one I lived on(Big Island) and I did see that beautiful sight along with the big waterfalls. So Many rainbows and beautiful flowers.. I sang this song to my first Grandson all the time. I tell everyone they have to visit Hawaii at least once in their life. Oh btw, They have the best weed. Lol. Thanks for the reaction.
You are right on that this song is the key for the Universe. IZ was a legend among his people in Hawaii as evidenced by the massive turnout to participate in his funeral. Love your reactions.
Yes. He was a huge brother, and he passed early. And his funeral, in true island style, at the end of video was so touching, joyous and sad all together. Amazing
Aloha, I'm so glad you found IZ. his version of this song is what ALOHA is all about...love for all. Also, we got the good Pakalolo here too 😉 (grass😁)...aloha🌺
This song is more than 80 years old. It was written during the Great Depression, when lots of people needed a message of hope. A 16-year-old Judy Garland originally performed it in the 1939 movie "The Wizard of Oz." Her version will break your heart also.
I love IZ!!! Big cuddley teddy bear...so humble. I Came across his music in 2019. Started with this song at the childrens resting time at work and I was hooked...God rest his soul
IZ is an inspiration and was loved by all. I was at Makua when they spread his ashes from the Hokule'a. Cars stopped along the 2 lane road leading to Ka'ena bringing traffic to a stand-still. Hundreds of people were wading in the water and hundreds more were on land. A procession of big rigs blew and held their horns echoing through the valley while his ashes were placed into the ocean making it sound as if the State of Hawaii was crying . . . it's a moment I will never forget. An incredible celebration of life for an incredible man!!
People often don’t realize how beautifully musical Polynesian culture is and how lyrical. It’s really beautiful to hear them. I think IZ gave a very small taste of an amazing culture. If you every get to listen to their church choirs it’s amazing.
Gorgeous song sung by a very gifted man... interesting range of emotions observed in this video... u look so sad in parts... then longing... and peaceful in others... I love your thoughts about "getting it out there" in the media to promote peace and harmony... we so need more of it to combat all the hatred... aggression... and violence... r.i.p iz... we will remember them... alive in our hearts ❤
I still can not make it through this song without shedding a tear. It's one of the most genuine songs I've ever heard and it shoots straight to the heart.
🙏❤🎶 "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" and "What Wonderful World" Medley 🌈 by: Israel Kamakawiwoʻole Ooh Ooh Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high There's a land that I heard of once in a lullaby, I Oh, somewhere over the rainbow skies are blue Clouds high over the rainbow, makes all your dreams come true, ooh Someday I'll wish upon a star Wake up where the clouds are far behind me Where trouble melts like lemon drops High above the chimney top That's where you'll find me, oh Somewhere over the rainbow, blue birds fly Birds fly over the rainbow Oh why, oh why can't I? I I see trees of green and red roses too I'll watch then bloom just for me and you And I think to myself Oh, what a wonderful world I see skies of blue, clouds of white The brightness of day, the dark, say goodnight And I think to myself Oh, what a wonderful world The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky Are also on the faces of people passing by I see friends shakin' hands saying, "How's it? How you?" They're really saying, "I love you" I hear babies cry and I'd watch them grow They'll learn much more than we'll know And I think to myself Oh, what a wonderful world I think to myself, yes What a wonderful world I think to myself, yeah What a wonderful world Ah-ooh Oh, what a wonderful world it is Yeah, yeah, yeah Oh, na, na, mama Yeah, yeah, aloha
I have heard IZ sing this many times and it never disappoints. I was introduced to this by a Hawiian friend many moons ago. It is a truly poetic melody wafting on the breeze. Chills for days. Thanks IZ.
Hawaii Samoans and the Men from the SAMOAN ISLANDS in the South Pacific - It was okay and even proud to be a Very Large Man at one time, still sort of is but of course we know better now its not healthy But it is like a SUMU Wrestler. You know its not healthy to be so large yet they strive and train to be so large it is honorable. IZ had an amazing voice and seems to have had a gentle personality .
You should do some research on Sumu wrestlers, they are actually very healthy, very low rates of heart disease, diabetes, etc. In short they're athletes. Not fat.

So sad he died long before this version became such a hit. His album with this song is great. Of course it's Hawaii. The boats are his burial ceremony. You can see them lifting his cremains to spread in the ocean. I played it at my mother's funeral.
