UGA hasn’t had a 1k yard WR in like 20 years I don’t see why everyone is so surprised
@dawgpost
@dawgpost 2 месяца назад
That’s not the reason they missed out on CJ Wiley though. Receivers improve and get drafted from Georgia all the time. Now other receivers in the past who care about catching 80 balls and 1,000+ yards, yeah Georgia’s not for them. A lot of people, including myself, have been told by people in the know that Georgia sat in a good position throughout the process. That’s the surprising part.

I believe this has more to do with FSU’s pitch, whatever is was, than what Georgia has done with receivers. Georgia has had no problem getting their WRs into the league. And as you know, the recent ones have left Athens with a title or two.

Its odd to me how WR recruits dont see that QB position is something that will always be a JR SR who knows the system and will get you the ball on the field if you have the talent. Ladd is that pro WR that could help by showing. Look what we can do with your future if you give us 3 years to ball out. 3s to top 10 WR taken

FSU is WR friendly. Georgia is tight end and RB oriented on offense. It would be great to have a big time WR. Wiley said that he's not completely committed.
@dawgpost
@dawgpost 2 месяца назад
They won’t be as tight end friendly without Brock. They’ll still use and throw to the TEs, more than most teams still, but it won’t be the same. McConkey was an early 2nd round pick. So was Pickens. WRs can absolutely get developed and make big plays on a consistent basis at Georgia. FSU absolutely does a good job with their WRs too though. Not disagreeing with you there. LSU does as well as anyone with receives though. If he’s looking to light up the stat sheet, you could make the case that’s where he shouldn’t gone. Especially with Underwood committed there in this 2025 class.

UGA does not get top caliber receivers. Yes there have been a few good ones. UGA does develop and get lower tier guys drafted. However, they rarely turn out top 10 draft picks at receiver. That is what these guys are trying to do. I don't know that there are going to be a lot top 10 receivers that catch less than 1,000 a season. It is what it is.
@dawgpost
@dawgpost 2 месяца назад
True. It is what it is. You can win championships without 5-star receivers. Running backs too for that matter. It starts with a great OL and QB play, and Georgia’s certainly had that recently.

Nobody “wants” to, but that’s still the reality at most places. George Pickens, Jermaine Burton and Dillon Bell all made an impact as freshmen at Georgia. Whoever signs with Georgia at WR in the 2025 class has an opportunity to see the field early too. CJ Wiley is good enough to play for early playing time wherever he ends up, even at Georgia.

That's no Kirby's style. He rotates players in and out to keep them fresh and to make the other teams defense scramble to match up with different individuals in different positions. Doing this causes confusion . Confusion opens up bug holes and big plays. Keeping the same players in for longer series allows defenses to lock on good receivers.

James Coley is outclassed by these other receivers coaches who can point to recent success with NFL receivers. Then you add in UGA history with recivers, that's why it's not surprising UGA didn't get Wiely.
@dawgpost
@dawgpost 2 месяца назад
I understand that. But this specific commitment was surprising because a lot of people like myself who cover recruiting weren't expecting it. It just wasn't what we heard from sources. That's why it's surprising. Also, if he's looking to put up giant numbers, you'd think an LSU legacy would choose LSU since they do as well as anyone at developing and allowing their WRs to put up giant numbers. From that standpoint, LSU makes more sense than FSU. Nobody is saying Georgia receivers have lit up the stat sheet in recent years. The numbers are the numbers. But you can absolutely grow, develop, and get drafted as a receiver if you play at Georgia. They're far from "WRU", but it's not like Georgia can't produce receivers.

@JMoneyMan86
@JMoneyMan86 2 месяца назад
@@dawgpost Imo the kid wanna go to FSU but his support system wanted UGA. That's why the Intel leaned UGA. As you could tell it was an awkward silence after he committed because they all were expecting what you were expecting. UGA can still flip but they have to prove it to Wiley on the field before signing day. Trust me I hate these kinds of recruiting situations. In Bama's case Offords wants to come to Bama but his father has issues with the previous staff and the new dbs coach so OSU doesn't see a flip. But it's very very likely by signing day. But I do believe eventually Kirby must move out of his comfort zone and get a real wide receiver coach that commands respect. OSU FSU Texas LSU and Bama have top 5 receivers coach and this wide out class committing to who they know do it best.
@dawgpost
@dawgpost 2 месяца назад
@@JMoneyMan86he did have Cortez Hankton who did an excellent job, but his heart was always where he is now. We’ll see if Wiley’s commitment sticks. If it does they landed one hell of a receiver. But you’re right, very awkward silence in the building and in the family’s reaction.

When I look at Bobo I see the guy who now has the two top-scoring offenses in the history of the program, was a two-time Broyles Award finalist (meaning he was recognized as one of the top five coordinators on either side of the ball in the entire sport), and whose offense carried the program in his first stint opposite defenses that were typically mediocre or worse.

@CinHotlanta
@CinHotlanta 2 месяца назад
@@cdpridg3998 Yet another fan who wants to burn MIke Bobo in effigy for our defensive short-comings. And yes, I have watched EVERY game with Mike Bobo as our OC. While at UGA for his first stint Bobo's offenses averaged 33 PPG (#27.8 in the country, #4.1 in the SEC). In his final three seasons this was 37.8 PPG (#14.3 nationally, #3 in the SEC, including the #8 scoring offense with 40.2 PPG and was the best in the SEC his final year). The year before he got the job we averaged 23.3 PPG, were #57 in the country and #8 in the SEC. To get a good idea of what he was working with talent-wise, in the same span the Georgia defenses averaged allowing 24 PPG (#41.1 nationally, #5.5 in the SEC, in his final three seasons 24.3 PPG, #39.7 nationally, #5.3 in the SEC). In the four years before Bobo left, the average signing class ranking seems strong - avg. #9.75 nationally, but that was also just fifth in the SEC over that span (2010-2013). For another point of reference, 2010 Auburn is statistically the worst scoring defense to win a championship in the BCS/CFP era - is widely acknowledged as having ridden entirely on its offense - and it allowed the same PPG at 24.1 that the Georgia defenses averaged for Bobo's first stretch as OC. For yet another point of reference, that unstoppable, championship Auburn offense averaged fewer PPG (39.6) than Bobo's last two Georgia offenses, 2014 (41.7) and 2023 (40.14). Not only was his offense often carrying the defense on its back, he had to be really damn careful because a turnover against a competent offense typically had a decent chance of being in the endzone 3-5 plays later, and the same people griping about "conservative play-calling on 3rd down" would instead have been CRUCIFYING him for being careless with the ball and costing us the game with a turnover. Bobo was a great player for us, and his offense 100% carried this program while he was here during his first stint as OC - it's a genuine shame that so many fans do nothing but resent him for it, he deserves so much better.
