Recycling worker for 15 years, sad truth most people who recycle don't do it properly or put the proper items into the bins. If you really want to help follow your local rules and guide lines, bc not all plastic is recyclable.

@@lewiemcneely9143it's extremely difficult to recycle various plastics, and doing it multiple times is hard as well, very cost prohibitive. So it's not always about effort or "getting serious" about it, if the material is bad and cannot be recycled, it's not about having the will to do it. Ideally, companies just wouldn't make materials that cannot be recycled, and there'd be materials that can easily recycled over and over made.

@@colinofay7237 All the landfill here is concerned amout is the tonnage. They have conex boxes there for recycling but you have to go there to do it and it's a long gravel road there and back. The local collectors don't have the rigs to haul seperate items. It's all bagged and weighed as a load. No coloection points so we do what we do and throw it all in and it goes away and that's it. Until someone invests money in a rig to carry seperate kinds of stuff for recycling it'll never happen.

I'm with you on recycling the cardboard. I take all my Amazon boxes to the recycler about every three months. Back in the early 80's our yard was a half block away from a cardboard recycler. Working for a large telecommunications company who's first name starts with A and last name starts with T, the middle name also starts with T, we stored the cardboard and it would pay for a beer bust for the entire yard, not just our crew a couple times a year. So we all benefited from recycling. 85% is my guess.

Here in North Queensland Australia we are all but 100% recycling all waste. Looking at what you are putting in we would be recycling at least 60-70% of your 800t a day. Even our domestic kerbside waste we have 2 bins 1 for general waste and the other is recycling and that goes to a dedicated facility where it’s sorted manually and some automated for processing. All our building waste is recycled and the same for commercial waste.

100% of the waste we create is recyclable, we just lack the will to recycle it all, I've often said we will eventually dig up these landfills when creating new resources out wieghs the cost of recovering them. The main problem is the environmental cost is not added into the price of mining the raw materisls.

It is to bad that things like the cardboard and pallets were not taken to the right spot. Landfill space runs out quicker when putting the wrong things in it. I know it cost a lot of money but a sorting plant will help. I know it is not practical but it would nice if all the trash was ground up. I do not know if that would help it break down any quicker. It used to normal in my past for not tasking any worker to do a job that you're not fully capable and experienced in doing yourself. Sadly many modern industries have moved away from that style of management and as a result their workers eventually lost most / all the respect for the management in those industries. Stand in their shoes and know how tough it is, then task and reward accordingly if you want to develop a good working relationship that benefits the company and its staff...

You could almost have a dedicated machine on the tipping floor with a thumb to pick all the wood out and leave it aside until the end of the day when you can load it in a container to haul to the grinder to make mulch. With that volume of wood being saved would extend the life of the landfill.

Blame the people who put it in wrong bins, not the people who have to deal with the bins at the sharp end.

I think the working world would be a much nicer place if the university business professors studied your management techniques and passed them along to their students.

Ya this is why I trash pick on a small scale. I save so much stuff that can be reused that is thrown out. Really what I throw away is pure junk. Everything else gets recycled. OR even scrapped for a few bucks

The excavator that you have pulling metal out of the dump piles maybe you need to set up some sort of double axle trailer that he can grab with the bucket and drag along with him and load up and take back over to where he dumps it into the roll off boxes it would save fuel and time and maybe even have something like it set up for like all the pallets until you get something more permanent set up

Ah the day at the "dump". I live in a community that has single source recycleables which is nice for the homeowner. It is collected here then hauled 50m to a sorting center. There is a CAT plant here and they are assembling some compactors in the 980 class. Good show. I'm sure it wouldn't take long to cure ya of "hoarding"..... LOL
