The large 200 year old outbuilding being turned into a workshop is a great idea, it just took a lot lot longer than we expected. Finding ancient flag stones as a floor and gully was amazing.
The outbuilding is an old byre, with an English translation of "A barn for cows". There may have been up to four cows in the byer. We were told that the slurry gully went down the middle and the cow muck slung out of the window at the rear of the building.
The building is on the Cassini ordinance survey map 1st edition which dates back as far as 1829 - 1834 making our outbuilding(s) a possible 200+ years old and at minimum 189 years old.
Not only are we proud owners of a 100+ year old Irish farmhouse, but we are also very proud owners of an Irish outbuilding which could be 200+ years old.
Being complete beginners at farmhouse renovation and also really needing a "homesteading for beginners" guide, we are taking it slowly, enjoying everything we do no matter how hard it is, to one day realise our dream of running a fully functioning homestead from our once derelict Irish Farmhouse.
