Slight correction. Plank inspection is not performed on every car post race, it's not even performed every race. It's not part of the post race Parc fermé checks like fuel. It can occur randomly and on random cars. The 'uproar' is more of why didn't they check all the cars if two (50% of sample) failed and that it's suspicious that these were the cars 'randomly' selected. The misconception here is that people think the cars are chosen at random like drawing a number from a hat. That's not the randomized factor. The randomization factor for the teams is that it can happen at any race at anytime to any car thus their selection from teams point of view is random as teams have no idea if it will happen in this particular race and if their car would be one of the cars, unlike the constants that happen post race every race. But, from FIA point of view, the selection of which cars to inspect is not quite as random (sometimes it can be). But there is usually a trigger, something the data suggests that a team may have had an unfair advantage and thus should be inspected. Excessive sparks, excessive loads on sensors that measure porpoising (frequent contacts with the skid plate would show frequent high peak values, like blips on a graph that are abnormal in value and/or frequency). Checks are based on data and the randomization part may be let's also check the other podium winners, that part is not even random, that's more like "let's not create drama" on this one lol. Since planks have to be removed to be inspected, it's not viable to check all 20 cars every race especially when the race ended on Sunday and they need to be back on the track on Friday in a different country/track. Like you said, rules are rules and the teams are also aware of this rule. F1 is a sport where teams love to live on the edge of these rules and sometimes they feel it's worth the risk as opposed to "playing it safe". Teams took a risk (I don't buy Merc and Ferrari's excuse that they didn't have "enough" time). This is not a first time they've been on this bumpy track. They could have played it safe or they could have played it on the edge and taken a risk, they took the risk and lost this one. Toto himself said something similar, that if given the choice of playing it safe and taking a risk, he'd opt for the risky option. The margins being fractions of a millimeter, seems they ALMOST got it right. ALMOST. Plus it wasn't a complete wash for Merc and Ferrari, the data they gathered from running the car as low as possible (slightly too much) is much more valuable. The Merc car had pace, big pace in that race, closest they been to beating RB. But I wouldn't get TOO hopeful, RB was also running a considerably higher ride height, they could afford to do it though. Mexico was back to the norm though, which seems to be a Perez DNF and Max pulling ahead by double digits by the end of race.

Mercedes is not back!!! If they did have their car setup correct, they would have ended behind Norris and probably behind Sainz too. The illegal action of lowering the car that much gave them a lot more downforce and made it so much more drivable through the corners, gaining loads of speed. Sliding less because the car sticks to the road like glue made them have lower tire deg. It is cheating plain and simple, they got caught and that's the end of it. The other thing Max had some trouble management with a set of brakes. If he did not have those problems, he would have been so far ahead of the rest of the drivers. He could drink a nice cool drink and wait for the rest to finish.

@Dorfus2323 Except the car was DSQ due to plank wear not for running below the minimum ride height (yes there is a difference) Whilst plank wear indicates that a car is running too low that doesn't necessarily mean that it is below the minimum ride height ( Cheating). In the case of Ferrari and Mercedes (and undoubtedly other cars if every car was actually tested) The car was most likely set up legally to be above the minimum ride height but too low in regards to the uneven track at Cota. high kerbs and the additional running of the sprint weekend with only 1 hour to setup before cars go into parc ferme, all contributing to excessive wear on the plank. As the FIA haven't said by how much the skid blocks were excessively worn you are in no position to declare that anybody was cheating. The fact is that plank wear is a function of setup. There is a hard limit of 1mm wear over 2 quali sessions a 100 mile sprint and a 200mile GP. The truth is a car that wears the plank 0.99mm is legal and one that wears it 1.01mm is DSQ that's a difference of 0.02mm which isn't gaining anything in terms of downforce. But hey ho at least in your ignorance you get to take a swipe at those you don't like

The commentators and others have thought the crowd was booing Max Verstappen; however, Texas Governor Gregg Abbott gave Max the winner's trophy. I would put money on the fact that the crowd was booing Abbott. He's not popular in Texas as a whole, & he's less popular than that in liberal Austin, TX. Abbott was the focus of the boos, not Max.

@F1TechnicYT I think it also started before the man in question came out.. but I would prefer to believe they were not booing Max. Did they boo him on Saturday? I don't think so. I am a Lewis fan, but Max does not deserve the boos, he is a much better and more respectful driver than he was early in his career. I don't want to see him win any more, but if and when he does, full respect if done fairly.
