Very common on Chinese gasket sets

You can always tell a solid copper washer from a copper plated steel one when you tighten it. Just feel the copper one squashing down softly.

you can also use aluminum washers

Another great video Mike. I have mixed feelings about britpart. Some parts are good and others are crap. I like bearmach.

Picked up a 200tdi all makes headset and an old stock 2015 bottom set today and both had copper washers. Exhaust gasket in all makes kit is the cheapo foil type but rest seem good. Britpart bottom set OK but will be using OE rear seal, elring head gasket and exhaust gasket.

Who would have thought that comparing gasket sets would be entertaining. Send Britpart a note about the copper plated steel washers, so they can lift their game and also the missing washers. Hey, they might send replacements to you. It would be nice to have a contents list, after all it is not just mechanics like you who order parts. Britpart has a youtube channel, with some top people featured in it. As for missing bit or steel instead of copper washers, it all comes down to quality control. Good tip about the manifold gasket, as I have only seen the Payan type gasket. I will add it and washers to my next order.

Indeed QC is an issue I know they cannot check every part, but when they have constant issues then it should be the manufacture that makes sure a part a) fits and b) is up to spec

It’s surprised me too! Maybe Britpart has changed its spots after all, mind you they had some work to do to get customers back. I just hope they see your video and change those copper washers!

They are a funny lot BP! I have dealt with them for 15 years and visited a few times when back in the UK I never have an issue with warranty claims BUT some of the stuff that comes out is not up to scratch, and as you know being so far from parts it is a gamble I know that all the major suppliers get the majority of their spares from the same manufactures - it seems QC is the big issue I did a rant video a few weeks back and have not made it public yet on this very issue of parts - I am out of retail and just get parts for customers jobs now, but the point of the rant was why are LR genuine parts so expensive? I mean 10 times more expensive! No wonder there is a massive after market parts biz! I compared with Toyota - lots of suppliers selling Toyota parts - but genuine parts - and affordable! Mike
@darland3821
@darland3821 5 лет назад
@@BritannicaRestorations there's a gap in the market for premium quality parts that sit between BP / Bearmach and LR. I'd happily pay 3 or 4 times the price of BP but not 10x per current LR prices.
@BritannicaRestorations
@BritannicaRestorations 5 лет назад
Exactly! LR can charge what they want as they know the cheap stuff is sub standard - but you cannot afford to use LR parts If you were to build a steering box with new parts it would be 5 times more than a brand new Adwest one - bonkers!

I spoke with Britpart's technical people few months back. I'd spotted a safety issue that Land Rover should really have taken responsibility for notifying owners about. Britpart were incredibly responsive. They took ownership and ensured their parts kit contained a Warning update in the instructions, as well as duplicating the warning on their website and in their magazine. Maybe Britpart will become the people to take up Mike's challenge. We certainly need a premium parts supplier who respects their customers. Well done Britpart!

Cork caskets were supplied in the days when: a) motor oils could damage rubber gaskets. I believe this is no-longer the case with modern motor oils; b) gaskets were preferred in the day when, otherwise superior, flexible silicone sealant would only last a maximum of 8-10 years when immersed in motor oil. A good example being the sump gasket, where a flexible gasket is preferable for an off-road vehicle. Again, some of today's silicon sealants -- e.g. Wurth -- are ideal for this application. Another major problem is that almost all parts suppliers want you to enter your registration number or fill out the make, model, year, etc., so the computer can choose appropriate cars. This is a nightmare if you own something like a Rover 618is. It's an obsolete car where many of the parts are no-longer available. But, it is actually a Honda Civic (no idea which model) and many Rover MGF parts (which are available as OEM classic parts) are out there. It's just impossible to find parts unless you know where they're the same as for another vehicle, because that's what you need to enter on the website. It's all about dumbing down. No use even phoning the manufacturer, as they use the same parts search database.

And Land Rover were always built from "borrowed" parts anyway.

For crank and cam seals I use LR original. More expensive but i dont trust third party ones not to leak. Elring also make a good gasket set.

It is so hard with the aftermarket parts biz now - qualities change like the weather Not much is made in the UK now and most aftermarket retailers seem to buy from the same place, but put parts in different boxes

Fantastic video, it's just a shame britpart can't do quality across the whole range. Some of their parts are being polite, aren't good at all. I bought new britpart door cards and fixing kits as the original ones were goosed. Nothing lined up to reattach, and the little fixing pins where way to small.
@BritannicaRestorations
@BritannicaRestorations 5 лет назад
Yes I went through the door card experience too - you mush have got the plastic ones I ended up screwing them on - but I got a refund from BP Same for the Defender front outer wing in plastic - outside good - holes don't line up I think it is their so called 'quality control' that comes into question

Britpart is so hit and miss - I thought the gasket set was good until I found the steel washers I always check them now Just did some rear brakes on a Ford F350 and the recon callipers came with steel/copper washers - leaked like crazy - got the old ones out of the bin, annealed them and put them back on!

I’ve got “brit(shit)part” radiator in my 110 and I’d say it’s every bit as good as an OEM one and far better than the one with the hole it. But I’ve had no end of trouble with other parts. I do buy Brit part gaskets for most things though as it would have to be gold plated to be worth the markup.

Matt, try Googling. That's how I found various RU-vid videos that showed me how to fit the Wurth sump sealer on my Land Rover Defender's sump. -- Yes, there is a specific application technique. You also need to semi-tighten, then fully tighten, in two steps. And leave to "air cure" for 48 hours before re-filling with motor oil -- Best wishes, Richard in Aldershot, UK

Very good review. Very useful. Could you do a review of different 300TDI heads ie AMC v Britpart.
@BritannicaRestorations
@BritannicaRestorations 5 лет назад
I don't know who supplies the AMC heads are they the Spanish ones? I have fitted many BP heads and not had an issue They say they are made in the UK The heads with 'advanced cooling' are a waste of money as they are for the HS2.8 and the 300Tdi does not have waterways in the block to correspond to the head

Dean As I said, I am not sure who supplies the AMC heads and I have not seen one The issue with the parts business is there are many 'manufactures' stating they are made in the UK or Spain, but they are made in China and re boxed in the UK or Spain I am seeing a lot of this now I really wish I could be more positive!
