Such courageous attitude! It is absolutely the most important in these situations that you have courage to face all the issues. Also,about the other offers now that you're at Citi, what these people do is they check whether you are already at some well-to do brand name, your title,and the related stuff. Based on that, you will then receive calls. This makes you the one who can choose to negotiate a much higher salary and work profile. It'salways about that one big break and things fall into place.Congrats you both for doing so well!

Layoffs are part of corporate life in America, no matter how good you are. Hiring and Firing are just business decisions. He is taking it too personally.
