Been going in Cornwall for 30 years plus

It’s hard when you have to pay more than half of your income for housing.

Even 60 years ago, many Hotel Staff were shipped in from mainland Spain as there were not enough Locals for the number of jobs.

@giveusanesirbobholness7199 just keep away from the centre, at night it's full of drunken tourists, groups of men AND women, it's not so bad in daytime, but saying that they're still starting on the booze when most people are having breakfast. Lovely restaurant called Jackie's by beach, abd delicious paella there.

They don’t want tourism to stop - they want the numbers controlled and they want the selling of properties to foreigners to stop as it pushes up rental prices for them and prevents them from buying property to be close to their families. I think that us reasonable, don’t you?

Don’t judge all Brits by the bad behaviour of a few. And it’s NOT just the Brits either. When you go to someone’s country, and I don’t care how much you have paid, show respect for that country and its people - if you can’t then don’t go. Yes, there are many who think they can do what they like and cause problems in which case the authorities should ban them from ever going back to that country with a stamp in their passports and flagged up at customs and charge them for the costs of police involvement, damage to property, any medical bills (their own and those they have hurt), on the spot fines or appearances in court where they bear the costs - I guarantee they will never behave like that again in another foreign country ever again.

Some of the Red Roof managers here will not let rooms out to the Brits because of their behaviour or say they are fully booked. They rather have empty rooms because the Brits are too much trouble for them and other guests.

Now they are complaining that the Brits are staying away and the place is half empty. They need to make their minds up and expect tourist money if they are hostile to tourists. There are plenty of places to go on holiday and if Majorca doesn't want the tourism somewhere else will be glad of it. Also if they don't want tourists to get blind drunk and cause problems don't encourage the tourists to get blind drunk in the first place.

I have just returned from Mallorca and during my 5 day visit never saw any of the stuff you mention. Also the local people were very polite and helpful unlike the idiots in this recent ridiculous demo against tourism. Without tourism they are back to the stone age.

It is 25% of the economy in Mallorca, 13% in all Spain. As a Spaniard, I prefer the scarcely populated interior of my country (cheap, wonderful nature and historical sites). I avoid peak season if I want to go to the islands or the Mediterranean coast (we have 5 good moths of summer anyway). I am not fond of masses, Spanish or foreign; I make no distinctions. At home I enjoy also sun and a pool, so great.

Venice has hardly any locals because of AirB. And locals are being priced out in Portugal to a very serious degree...It's been happening to black/brown people forever but now it's getting attention because white people are being displaced.

@@mariosanchezgumiel7757 maybe not if you do not work in the tourist industry but all the local Spanish who are my friends do rely on tourusm and they say we are not just important but we are also necessary. . Maybe you have not benefitted from tourism personally yourself but I have been coming to Mallorca nearly 50 years and tourism made it much wealthier, improved its infrastructure and brought it into the modern era. Without tourism businesses and jobs could not survive and many locals would be forced to leave and seek opportunities elsewhere. We have mass worldwide tourism all year in London from all over the world and we welcome it because it greatly helps to maintain our historic sights and we live the armosphere. It is very sad you feel how you. quizás no si no trabajas en la industria turística, sino que todos los españoles locales que son mis amigos confían en el turismo y dicen que no somos sólo importantes, sino que también somos necesarios. . Quizás no se han beneficiado del turismo personalmente, pero he estado viniendo a Mallorca casi 50 años y el turismo lo ha hecho mucho más rico, mejorado su infraestructura y la ha traído a la era moderna. Sin empresas y empleos turísticos no podían sobrevivir y muchos locales se verían obligados a salir y buscar oportunidades en otros lugares. Look at it from their point of view. They don’t want to stop tourism - they want the numbers drastically reduced as the locals can’t rent property at a reasonable price as those foreigners who have bought properties push the prices up and also locals, if they can afford to purchase a property to be close to their families, can’t because those properties have been sold to foreigners.
