Bacchus guitars, Japanese handmade guitar company.
Not only their guitars are surprisingly good but also they are affordable.
Is that possible? But it's true.
Here's my homage to them, especially to their "Les Paul" type instruments.
- I'm not affiliated by Bacchus guitars or Deviser company in any way. I'm just a big fan of their guitars.
The guitar playing in this movie:
Bacchus BLP-STD-FM (2011)
Recorded with - T-Rex Diva Overdrive - M-Audio interface - Brainworx ENGL E765 Retro Tube plugin - Some EQ and Comp
For those know the fact that we are a Christian Metal band from Japan, here is a blog version with some interesting stories about playing Christian music with guitars named "God of Wine".

I just bought Deviser Les Paul and it is shockingly good, it is even better than the Gibson standard. The Deviser is such a joy to play and the sound is solid

Hello Tak, I called you imari last time. I started reading the Bible at age 62 after I retired from my job. I have been looking at Bacchus BLs 940 GLb I think global, you say parts made in Phillipines assembled in japan. Not sure what that means in quality. I have looked at Ls GP Tokai. Don't know which. Can you recommend a person in Japan on ebay to buy from. Calling them japanese and not japanese crafted. I own a 99' Gibson les paul.Good guitar and heavy. A 88' Greco LPC. Heavier than Gibson. I know your trying to make music so if you know someone honorable and truthful , thank you, Jim. God bless You and hope for your music.

BLS-940G seems like Global Series. and Global Series are made in Philippines . But most of them are in good quality. I have some Global Series guitars and I love them. Not sure about eBay. I can't say who seller to recommend on it. But if you want "Made in Japan" you have to go for Handmade Series or Craft Series. Generally speaking Bacchus Les Pauls are not that heavy. Thank you and God bless!!

Thank you for your input. I have looked at the Bacchus Les Paul copys for a while. I read about the different divisions of Bacchus builders. Universe,headway,divisor. Some are cheap and some are very expensive. I only want a les paul made correctly and in Japan. NOt vietnam,indonisia,or phillipines. I do like the quality of S. Korea. I looked at the Mango wood Les Paul copy. Nice. Can you help me decide how to select a good les paul copy?Is it from devisor? Not the cheap ones or the most expensive.Thank you , Otis.

I remember Bacchus was making Mango wood LesPauls some years back. If I remember correctly they were "Global Series" made in Philippines. I think their quality was quite good. But if you strictly want "made in Japan" model, you will have to look into Hand Made Series or at least Craft Series models, that means price go up a little higher. But I think their Global Series guitars are of good quality. In the end it all depends on what you want from the guitar.

Thank you Imari Tones. I don't see this on Ebay or it's rare to see some guitar brands not specifying country of Origin. I see things that say another country probably made the guitar and sent to Japan for finishing and sale. Did you say Divisor makes a better quality guitar than universe, Do you know Tokai. Which Tokai was made in Japan by Japanese craftsman. What models are Japanese made only. Both guitars are interesting.T hank you , Otis.

@@imaritones Hi Imari Tones, I just wrote you a reply from RU-vid. Don't know if you got it.I see Bacchus and Tokai on Ebay. I don't know which models are made in Japan by Japanese craftsman. There are some dishonest people every. where we go.IF I don't know the guitar was made in Japan and looking at Japanese made guitars, I won't look any more at that sellers listings. Which models of Tokai and Bacchus are made in Japan? Thank you.

Haven't played their hollow body guitars. But I heard Tactics Hollow were one of the popular models in Japanese market. So it should be good.

Hi, do you know what pickup magnet type they are using with Bacchus BLP-FMH/R-CS ?
@imaritones
@imaritones 2 года назад
As far as I know, for Craft(Classic) Series Les Pauls they are/were using BHV-A5 for neck and BHH for bridge. If I remember correctly BHH has a ceramic magnet. It's a bit of high power side for a traditional les paul but I like it. Not sure about BHV-A5 but probably Alnico 5 as the name suggests.

Hi Tak! Any experience with the Bacchus lines made in the Philippines? How do they stack up compared to the made in Japan ones?
@imaritones
@imaritones 3 года назад
Hi Jojo, thanks. I have 3 bolt-on type guitars from Bacchus Philippines line aka Global Series. My wife has 2 basses from Global Series, too. It's hard to compare. Slightly different feel, maybe cheaper parts, probably MadeInJapan ones are a bit more solid, but they are very good on their own right. For collectors maybe Made In Japan feel is important but if you just want good guitars to play they are very good, I think. But each one is different you may want to play before purchase. Some of them are surprisingly good. However I just own bolt-on guitars and don't have much experience with set-neck types from Global Series line. Earlier this year I posted a video called For The Love Of Coffee. I used Global Series Grace-FT-FM.

I'm about to buy a Bacchus BLS-95, no serial number, very good condition, all original...people say it was handmade in Japan but I can't find this information nowhere. Do you know something about this model? Thank you!!!
@imaritones
@imaritones 3 года назад
Ah, difficult question. Hard to say. When you play you will know. . . That's all I can say. Another thing I can say is Japan made handmade series, Philippines made Global, China made Universe, they all sound good. Detail, finish, parts are a bit different.

Maybe you can check their website. bacchus-guitar.com/bacchus-dealers In Japan it was quite affordable mostly even less than 1,000USD but now I guess it's a bit more pricy. Outside of Japan prices will be higher maybe. But I believe it is still a good deal considering the quality.

How the BLS - STD FM compared to BLS 59 FM?
@imaritones
@imaritones 5 лет назад
My BLP-STD-FM is made in 2011 and I haven't tried newer BLS-59FM myself yet. So I can't really say a exact thing but it should be about the same. Difference on the spec sheet is while BLP-STD-FM has solid flame maple top BLS-59FM has laminated flame maple top. Sound wise it does not make a big difference, I think. Also bridge and tailpiece could be different. In my opinion Les Paul type guitars each one is different even though they look the same so you should check one by one, but I expect the same high quality from this BLS-59FM. Hope this helps.

Bacchus may be "affordable" in Japan but there is absolutely nothing "affordable" about them in the UK. I just checked out their prices at The Guitar Den, their UK reseller, and not only are their regular production (Craft line) Fender type models (Strat, Tele and Mustang) similarly priced to Fender USA originals but their Gibson type solid bodied models (Les Paul and SG) and Seventy Seven-branded hollow bodied models (ES 335 and ES 175) aren't exactly "cheap" either priced at 80%+ of the Gibson USA equivalents that they are modelled on. That's not counting the substantially more expensive Handmade line, all models of which are in the £2-3,000 range. To compare Bacchus guitars to Epiphone and Squire is a joke. Squires start at about 10% of the price of the cheapest Bacchus and even the most expensive Epiphones (mostly signature models) are no more than half the price. In fact Bacchus are probably about one and a half times the price of the equivalent model Mexican made Fender. These are UK prices of course, things may vary by country. Furthermore, Bacchus also has the Universal line that is substantially cheaper and these are Chinese made but Guitar Den, the UK importer, are pushing the Japanese handcrafted quality aspect to entice people into looking into an unknown brand in an overcrowded market so they don't touch the Chinese stuff. Certainly from a Brit's point of view, our friend in the video's insistence on pushing Bacchus as being a "cheap" guitar brand is a joke, first and foremost because he is talking about Japanese made product and the existence of the Chinese line isn't even mentioned. Imari Tones advertises itself as "Christian Heavy Metal" (whatever that may be) so I guess that like all the religiously fixated, his real expertise is in selling bullshit.

It's true Bacchus guitars are higher priced in Europe than in Japan. Same thing can be said for American/European made guitars being sold in Japan. Because of import and dealer cost, I guess. In fact the prices of Bacchus guitars/basses are rising recently in Japan, too. Maybe they are not "cheap" guitars anymore. But I think they are still of "good value" considering the quality. I love their Global Series line made in Philippines. I would mention it WAS true in the past Bacchus were being compared to "entry level" guitars such as Epiphone/Squire in Japan. But I think now they are getting more recognition for their quality.

Having recently purchased a 2011 Bacchus Classic Series Les Paul, i can confidently state that it is superior to my 2006 Gibson Les Paul Standard, in both build quality and playability. To compare them to anything currently made by Epiphone or Squire is laughable.

Nowadays you need to be on surgeon or lawyer's salary to buy a nice guitar. There are NO affordable decent guitars any more, you can blame PRS for that, when he came along in the mid to late 80's and priced up his guitars at car showroom prices. For anything decent which is bought new you're looking at the point of 1200 £, € or $ currencies, minimum. Back in the day I could get a very nice playing cheap and cheerful Gordon Smith for £250 - an 80's made Gibson Les Paul Custom could be bought new (1990) for £550 including hard case. Guitar market is ridiculous - considering companies like Gibson buy illegally sourced wood and rip off the consumer with guitars that don't even stay in tune for more than 5 minutes.

Yes I agree and definitely I understand what you are saying. Electric guitars, or maybe Rockn'Roll is no more for younger people? Now it's only for rich people maybe? At least Bacchus guitars are still affordable in Japan. Maybe when exported overseas it will be more expensive for business reasons. It's a little bit ironic.
