On the whole “how did the wife not know or look in his garage” I feel like it was a different time and women were afraid of their husbands and more submissive and didn’t ask questions because they knew better. She probably had an inkling something weird was going on but feared what she might find. :/ so sad. These poor women.
being in an abusive relationship can put you in survival mode so intense you’re so blind to what’s going on. i was abused by my step dad for years and my mom never knew… it broke her soul when she found out. she was just trying to get day to day
His mother always used to say that she wanted a daughter, and Jerry was treated like a constant source of disappointment. Do you think his fascination with the high heels might've been connected to that? He was a kid when he first tried it on, and maybe her outrage was better than the usual disappointment/resentment. I wonder if these women had any physical resemblance to his mother.

I forget which book I was reading but it talked about how when she refused to do things he asked he would legit physically intimidate her by dressing in womens clothing and stand in front of her and stare her down. Not to mention she was young and I want to say raised in a household where women were supposed to obey their husbands!
Also back then housewives didn't have money or much power (not sure if she had a job outside the house?) in their marriages. They relied on their husbands which, if they left, that would have taken considerable courage and resources in that time period.
FYI in Mindhunter the detectives interviewed him in prison, in order for him to help them out with some info.. they end up exchanging a story with him for a pair of shoes 👠

I was in an extremely abusive and controlling relationship for 13 years and if my ex told me not to go in a room. I would not go in that room. Some women are in survival mode 24 hours a day.

Funny, true story about that hospital Bailey mentioned: Back in the early 80s my father was a salesman and had an appointment with a higher up there. As he was sitting in the waiting room, a man in a hospital gown came running out and jumped over the counter shouting “I’m free!” He almost made it to the doors but he was tackled by four orderlies.

I remember this story from when it was mentioned in Mindhunter. They went to interview him and HE WAS SO SICK. The actor playing him nailed the role because I could feel the creeps on my body while watching his weird obsession with heels.
That’s why I love Bailey and her way of conveying the story. Giving the back story really opens our eyes as to the reason these murderers are they way they are. It is 99% of the time it is a neglected, and abused baby.

I still appreciate how Bailey explains her nervous laughter because it’s true that some people can misinterpret it or simply need to learn that this is how most people cope with trauma-using laughter to distance oneself from the pain. Also, some of it is just SO absurd and unbelievably horrible, that that fact alone could be enough to laugh at, even though we know it’s serious and real. These kinds of events bring up a lot of emotions, and it should be OK to talk about them while displaying a wide range. We can’t be depressed and serious the whole time. We have to continue to live and be healthy ❤️

I'm from Latvia and we have an exchange programm where they offer the " Lifetime opportunity " of goin to US and sell school books from door to door to young students, mostly girls and there are so many horror stories. Found out about it bc one of the participants called me asking me to join in and they call every number they get and make people give other friends or students phone numbers. It's messed up. My kids got me a "Bailey Suspish" t-shirt for Mothers Day last year. I only wear that t-shirt when I am listening to Baileys videos. Kids know NOT to bother mom when I am wearing my Bailey t-shirt. If you haven't already, you should do a video on Gabby Petito and Brian Laundrie. I think it just happened in either 2020 or 2021 but it was a big thing. Brian was the main suspect and had so many bounties on his trail, even Dog the Bounty Hunter. It was a wild ride.
I’m sure she followed that story as everyone did because it was big time national news. And it was just last year in 2022. August-September in fact. I remember because I was laying next to my bunny rabbit who was on pet home hospice. The story really got to me and I was already an emotional wreck from losing my baby girl.

I have the feeling that Ralphine was just simply afraid of her husband. Who knows her backstory and who knows how much Jerry may have traumatized her. I'm sure she was at least somewhat aware of what was going on but can you imagine what he may have threatened to do to her and/or her kids?
She described him as controlling... which is really just code for abusive most the time. She was probably in a state of "I know better then to say no or cross him" most of the time. Yeah she eventually said no to modeling stuff for him anymore but from experience enforcing that boundary was probably well after she decided she didn't like it and took a huge long fight that she didn't want to have to go through again unless it was for something really important. "Don't go into the basement" Yeah okay not worth the fight, "stay out of the garage" yeah okay not worth the fight. "Drive me to canada" okay weird but not worth the fight
