Shoemaking Lesson 7 - Skiving, Eyelets and Edge Finishing

In this video I'll show you how to skive the vamps, add eyelets for shoelaces and bevel and burnish edges.
This series will run through all of the steps involved in making a pair of derbies. It is aimed at people wanting to make a start in shoemaking.

@@AndrewReesonLeather Oh I still have a long way to go before I know enough to build my first pair. You're videos have been very informative and helo me gain the understanding I need to make a pair. I currently struggling with understanding the sewing equipment needed to make a pair of sneakers. Specifically, how to get a pair of rubber soles attached to the shoe upper and how to attach an insole.

Excellent series so far. But you shouldn't skive of the top grain, always the flesh side of leather. The top grain is ~90% of the strength of the leather.

This videos are amazing. I’ve been watching lots of Japanese and other master shoe makers, but it’s nice to see a mortal explain everything properly, and make some mistakes as well.

You have a few options: Overlock, Overlock and fold over once, Fold over twice, Bind, fully line each piece and flip inside out. They're all techniques that you'll find on your clothing
