I'm a LA Dodger fan but have also become a big fan of Shohei Otani! That man is amazing!! He can do it all, pitching and hitting like a future Hall of Fame inductee. I hope I live long enough to see that happen! I'm 70.
It's the same thing that happened at LSU in 1967. Football fans who didn't care about your sport at all began to hold season tickets to watch Pete Maravich play.
As someone from over the pond, I don’t follow baseball, I only see clips and high/lowlights every so often. Since last year though, I’ve been hooked on watching Ohtani. The man is already legendary.
Lifelong Red Sox fan and now an Ohtani fan as well, this guy is Superman. Coming into Fenway and pushing the Sox around was bad enough but, Ohtani taking the bump and doing what he did that afternoon was stuff of legend.
I was at the game! Seated in the grandstand behind home plate. At one point I randomly looked up at the scoreboard, and saw that Ohtani had thrown 65 pitches ... and only 10 were balls! Outstanding control. He also hit the longest single I've ever seen, to the deepest part of the ballpark! Very discouraging game for most Red Sox fans ... but after the game there were hoards of people waiting around the visiting team's bus, hoping for a glimpse of this amazing player.
I'm a Phillies fan but I have total respect for Shohei Ohtani. I never thought in my lifetime that I would see a modern day Babe Ruth. His abilities as a pitcher and as a hitter are unprecedented. Not to mention, he's one of the nicest guys in baseball, very humble. I was at the Phillies game yesterday. I was so excited to see both Ohtani and Trout. Ohtani smoked a double down the right field line. That was awesome to see. He has such power in his swing.
I feel like he’s everyone’s favorite player right now. I mean he does everything and he’s got a great personality. When I went to see him hit his 40th home run at comerica park everyone was cheering him on didn’t matter what team you cheered for. It was the first time I was clapping every time my teams batter got struck out just cause he’s that good you gotta appreciate it
This dude is like no other. I keep up with Ohtani and I've never kept up this much on any player. I'm not even an Angels fan, but I can't help but to keep an eye on this guy bc he is the most exciting player in MLB, heck of a player all the way around. That Trout fella is not too bad either.
What’s more impressive than Ohtani’s pitching is his ability to keep calm in pressure situations. So many runners left on base on any given out this game, not to mention doing it on the road at Fenway. Masterful performance, can’t wait to see what’s next.
Lets take a moment to appreciate left field for faking that catch so well at 4:17 . He deeked the runner so well and forced the close play. Man im so impressed by the IQ of big league guys. These guys are so smart. Mad respect to these hard working guys.
Lucky enough to live in Boston, bought tickets to all the games just in hopes of seeing him do just this, definitely the best money ever spent. Even being a Sox fan
I was there too, for my birthday. HUGE crowd waiting for him after the game outside the Angels' team bus. Must be a rush to have opposing teams' fans love you like this!
His pitching coach said last year that Ohtani pitches "pretty" and doesn't need much feedback because he is so aware of what he needs to work on and what he can do. I don't notice that much difference in his mechanics this year, but he seems close to his performance in the latter stages of last season. He's got great balance and delivery. Even that little hop and skip that he does often after delivering a strikeout. The stats tell a good part of the story. Ratio of strikeouts to walks, percentage of strikes to balls, mixing up his repertoire according to the opponent and what pitches are working for him that day, etc. He has great natural ability, high-level fitness and training, and great creativity on the mound. Now I hope to see his hitting come along, since he's not been consistently at his best at the plate so far.
Ohtani is a great pitcher but would not be a starter for the Dodgers this season if he got traded to them.Their starters are that good.Let that sink in No cy young Caliber yet. With hard work some day he might be an elite pitcher or hitter.
@@jessiegomez8209 To your point about the Cy Young I agree, but at the same time it’s showbiz at the end of the day. I think most people will pay to see Ohtani on the mound over any starter from the Dodgers, heck any rotation for that matter.
Awe-inspiring. I mean, what else can you say…anyone who has played the game knows how ridiculous it is that he can do all of this in the same game at an MLB level. Story, Bogaerts, Martinez and Devers are elite hitters and they looked overmatched on some of those Ks.
This dude is actually better than trout... we all thought trout was babe Ruth 2.0... but ohtani is on a whole new category. He belongs on his own mountain. We are watching the Michael Jordan of baseball now
@@williamgullett8071 If you're talking in terms of single role position players, sure he has to prove long term quality work. But in terms of high level play while dual role playing, it's simply incredible and noteworthy. Another two seasons of elite play on both sides of the plate, should cement his history and capacity.
Shohei Ohtani is too much! At this rate he’ll probably win Nobel Prize, AL MVP, Cy-young, players choice MVP, hank Arron award, commissioner’s award, Espys and sexiest man alive
That's an impressive stat, even for an old timer like me, who, in 1968, saw Denny McLain win 31 games, Bob Gibson post an ERA of 1.16 with 13 shutouts, and Marichal complete 30 out of 36 games.
I bought a Shohei Ohtani Topps rookie Baseball card PSA10 gem mint 2018 last year after the season, and it already went up 30% This card is gonna be worth a million dollars in a couple of decades, like Michael Jordan's Fleer rookie card now, I hope the card will be my retirement money💰👌
I'm buying ALL the Ohtani cards possible this year! Got a couple of his RC's and lots of other #'d and regulars. He's the new Babe Ruth, so it makes sense to be collecting his cards while you have the chance! Soon (if not already) there'll be collectors from all over the world adding to the demand for his cards! 😰💰💰💰 PSA 10 RC is an awesome choice! 😎
It was an Ohtani masterpiece, definitely. Even when he allows hits, he often renders them insignificant by then shutting down the opponent in that inning. One of many things I enjoy about Ohtani is his expressiveness and his enthusiasm at times. He's got a great way of showing his excitement, being pumped up, etc. He even has a bit of swagger to him, which is in his poise and mannerisms as well as facial expressions at times. I don't think it's disrespectful to the opponents at all. But I gather that occasionally he pissed off one of the opposing team, as happened in this game. It seems that Devers was upset at Ohtani's display of emotion after striking out Devers. It certainly wasn't directed at Devers personally. I think it's admirable that Ohtani is that emotionally charged and into it without trying to humiliate the opposition. Baseball needs more of that, too.
If Devers had gotten a hit off him instead of striking out he would've bat flipped and pimped it for 30 seconds. Lol he's in no position to get pissed off.
Yeah and they say Shohei has no personality....but when he shows it, it's disrespectful, haha. Which one is it? I love Shohei for his skills and humbleness and occasional enthusiasm. He's just such a unique player. We are so lucky to see him play ⚾️.
That’s exactly what I think, thanks for putting it into words. His expression is not directed at anyone, being such a nice guy I think that’s the last thing he wants to do. Rather, he has so much intensity and focus in the moment that he has to let it out after making the play. That’s one of my favorite things about ohtani as well!!!! Such a refreshing and unique ENERGY about him. It’s very fascinating lol
@@user-kf5ty3rb8jn That's an interesting comparison. Both have a kind of self-confident and yet respectful demeanor in their sport. Ohtani doesn't seem arrogant or disrespectful toward other players; in fact, he goes out of his way to praise and credit others he respects. It's a kind of pride and commitment to excellence combined with setting a high standard for their performance.
It's gonna depend on whether the Angels can make the playoffs this season. The star players are healthy, cutting Upton looks like the right decision so far, and the new signings as well as the other regulars have helped in both defense and offense. It looks like a recipe for success but it's too early to tell.
@@chiwawa130 "...all players except pitchers and DH..." So... literally more than half of MLB player (and would be more if there wasn't a cap of 13 pitchers)?
Whether he wins another MVP or not, I am just so happy to be alive in thus generation to watch him play as a Two Way Player. My grandkid won't believe me.
Haha, hitting it against the wall and having his "number" in the scoreboard fall off is "The Natural"-type stuff. Actually no, it's beyond that. It's Ohtani-type stuff. I know not much more needs to be said about how good he is ... but once-in-a-100-year player. Incredible. The only thing that will separate him from all-time greatness is health. That's it.
Shohei was showing out! This is exactly what baseball needs, a generational player that brings the average fan to notice baseball. Strikes out 11 in 7 shout out innings in Boston and has 2 hits also.....I'm exaggerating a little but he's like Rickey Henderson and Nolan Ryan merged into one perfect baseball player...
Shohei is definitely the first pitcher knocked off his own number from the score board after he finished pitching for the day 😁, not even Babe did that! No other pitcher has the power and accuracy to knock off his own number only from the score board 😂! This is the best Japanese animation storyline that no one can think about. It's too unreal to believe till we witnessed the Shotime!
This is why he is the best all-around player right now in baseball and why he won last year's MVP. What other player can control the outcome of the game on both offense and defense?
