I decided to use footage from a while back that I used for a time-lapse video. This time, I will show the video in real time with natural audio. New, recently shot video is coming soon. 湘南モノレール
I rode this in April, 2023. I was trying to get from the vicinity of Enoshima Island back to Yokohama, and was surprised when Google Maps directed me to take it rather than the Enodan. Had no idea it was one of those hanging monorails until I got to the station. Kind of a bumpy ride, but still a lot more interesting than a train or streetcar.
It’s interesting that when I rode the Chiba Monorail, it is the same technology except that it’s newer and is double track. The Chiba monorail is quieter and smoother.
Hi.thank you for your cool Video of shonan monorail.i like it very much and its partner of Wuppertaler Schwebebahn since a few years.i live both.greetings from austria/Vienna.
Riding it is amazing. There is a small window in the floor so you can look straight down if you want. It’s a bit like flying above the traffic. Great views too.
I don't understand why this isn't more common in cities around the world where the streets are narrow and terrain isn't level. I actually think that a suspended monorail can supersede a tram in many places due to the many aspects during construction like for example whether the roadbed and the utilities beneath it can withstand the weight of a tram and then there is the million dollar question: why would anyone wish to mix public transportation with common traffic as it only adds to the congestion on the streets.
I love public transportation that is completely grade separated. No waiting for or adding to traffic. It's also safer as there is no chance of collisions with cars or pedestrians.
@@Luke_Starkenburg Well, the goal of public transit should be in the end to get more people off the roads. I don't really like it when public transit has to respect the cars as prime traffic element, even though cars are less efficient in almost every category.
@@NationalistsRuinAmerica trains that run in streets with cars are not efficient and that defeats the purpose it makes both driving and public transport inefficient so everyone loses
@@qjtvaddict but making space for cars is always inefficient in the long run. Just banning car traffic on a few roads and giving it to a tram is best. Sure, suspended railways are an option, but they are more expensive in construction and maintenance, and once we get rid of cars completely, the streets below will be empty and unused.
Fun fact: the road that the monorail mainly runs over actually used to be land for a proposed train line--that's why it's (relatively) straightforward and wide.
Nice video. We expect this system to Sri Lanka. Japan started project about this. But Sri Lankans politics end it. But we will expect this to be resumed. Thank you for this video. I'm from Sri Lanka.
I really like the idea that monorail or tram or people mover or even little mrt should across the houses and real estates in order to move more people to the city center or their places, make things easier.
This is easily one of the coolest forms of public transportation I've ever seen. Very scenic, quiet and peaceful, really wish we had some in the US! Definitely on my bucket list to ride someday.
Seen it handle in war. That's a lot of metal. Are you blackbirds defending versus a scrapped monorail? Everybody on there better be studying. The ENTRANCE exams boy.
As always Luke, thank you so much for documenting and sharing your experience! I didn't go to Shonan (or Chiba) on my trip to Japan a few years ago... but they're now at the top of my list when I go back some day!
Is 5601 is the lowest number??? If so you are lucky to catch it! One thing is really interesting is that the Numbers are 5601 the back is 5602 front is 5603 back is 5604 but what about the middle car ??? What is the number of that ? In Hungary the suburban railways are like this we have like this 911 middle car 656 and the end is 952! CAN you Tell me the middle car Numbers if it has any ? Thanks ☺️
this is a great idea, it dont have to build a platform on the land/road but build a pole with the track at the side, this way u dont have to waste money try to reconstruct the road to build a platform for the train to ride but my question is that the train only go one way using one track to go back and fort? do i only have to wait for that one train?
I don’t know. I’m guessing max of 10 trains at a time, maybe 12. There are 4 stations with 2 tracks for passing. There are 2 stations with a single track, so no passing. Finally there are 2 end terminus stations.
