When everybody was gathering to celebrate at the first restaurant for the new year/series survival, a funny little bit that tends to get easily overlooked by the chaos was the little schtick with Otae and Madao. When the owner of the restaurant said that someone will need to pay for all the food and drinks they're going to order for their party, that bit where Otae volunteers Madao saying he will work off the debt by washing all their dishes by the end of the night was great. To which Madao responds hilariously in a positive way by saying, "Yay, I got another job again!" simply being happy to get a job and overlooking the fact that he's basically working free. There's something both very sad and very endearing about that.😆
Oh I’m sad neither of you mentioned how the scandal arc changed the op. The elavator shot with all the women adds hasegawa to the end, when gintoki hangs his head (in shame). Very funny
Yeah, most of the times they address the Gintama series in the fourth wall sense, it's usually a new editor. I believe a lot of the references they tend to make later on is because of the Bakuman series; which was once the non-traditional non-battlestream manga of the same guys behind Death Note. It wasn't a bad series and did teach you a lot about the business of manga, but like you guys said, it can at times be a bit much if you're not someone who's part of the profession or something similar. And I can also relate to the feeling of investing so much into 'one' thing in a project more than you need to only to get it struck down in favor of other things, making all your efforts a waste. I forgot to mention this in the Love Choriss Arc, but yeeeah Ayumu really dropped on my listing because of that arc a while back lmao. Like the last cool thing he did was Kyuubei's birthday, where he told all the snobs and leeches of the Yagyuu guest list to clear out when they were trying to get Otae and Co kicked out after one of them ruined her cake. That time he was alright, and I thought he wasn't such a pining creeper. But then Love Choriss happened, and he just kept spiraling. 😂😂😂 I think the only kind of defense for this really creepy fetish streak he's got going is because he doesn't get a whole lot of screen time and would probably clash with too many people of a similar trope. So Gorilla's only option for his character to stand out was to make him one of Gintama's many unsettling "super freaks." Not exactly likable, but certainly memorable. 😅😅😅 And speaking of which it wouldn't surprise me that the reason he kept insisting to be part of Gin and Kyuubei's household life as a couple was because he'd been wanting to do a threesome, and thought this might be a good opportunity to try it with someone they know and is now tied with the clan. All the more reason Gin kept telling him to get out.🤣 And while part of me thinks that Madao had an ulterior motive to being in a relationship with Gin, like depending on him for financial support and stuff, ultimately he might have had the purest of intentions than any of them by simply wanting to be in Gin's company. Like the shy way he said he wouldn't mind falling in society with him or humbly accepting the dog house as his new home, he just accepted anything and everything Gin gave him. ....Is Madao a lowkey best waifu....???🤯
So the Top Host's name from a while back in the Mother Arc is actually Kyoshiro Honjo, and Takamagahara is the Club that he owns and works at. (I'm impressed you remembered the club's name. XD) Also, I think the Host Club Arc was so liked (or at least the styles for it) that the official line for their merch made a bunch of Host stuff for them. I believe the reason they got "car" out of Kondo's new title is supposed to be some sort of play on words with the way it sounds when pronounced in Japanese. Because if you say his new title "Host Stalker" in Japanese pronunciation, it sounds like "Host to Karu," which translates to "Host & Car." It's almost kind of child-like humor, which is cute; until you 'see' the Host & Car.😂 Also, Kyoshiro truly is a pro host if he manages to get Otae to calm down after she gets riled up by Gin for being insinuated as a man, which he quickly corrects that they need her "connections and expertise as a female hostess who could give them some assistance with the infamous Madam coming to town." And speaking of "expertise," it's hilarious to think that if Gin wasn't so lazy and an idiot like the rest he'd probably be quite a natural talent as a Host in a club (Which would also go for Yakuza if he didn't already play a kouhai to Kazuma Kiryu, via Shinji). Putting aside the ridiculous skit that they attempted as a practice in the middle of the street, he really does have a charm to him that even made that girl start to feel things. Plus with that silver-tongue of his he could convince just about any number client to come to the club; hell he basically made the majority of the convicts in jail to become his loyal minions.🤣 But in the end he can't bring himself to stay straight-faced for long, much less handle the amount of alcohol these guys have to be trained to handle when working this type of nightlife. I also find it funny how Kyoshiro immediately saw the potential in Sougo and Hijikata, who definitely get a lot of attention both within their group and out in public; particularly Hijikata. And aside from Gintoki's hilarious Engrish, I also enjoyed every time Hijikata spoke in Engrish, especially the "HERE WE GO! LET'S PARTY!!" But despite his reluctance on what he felt was a stupid request, as with everything that comes his way he just takes it all in stride. And if Gin was an ass and snuck off (which he nearly did make a break for before Tsukky caught him) he was at least nice enough to assist Shinpachi; especially since he's under age lool. Also, that was too funny (and a bit traumatizing) when Kyoshiro was practically devoured by Saigo's Hosts and Hostesses to the point they made him into a Nyotaimori (body sushi) later lol. And Madao not being one to be left out somehow ends up literally on the same plate. I just love seeing them fly about as props as all the customers went crazy.😂 And speaking of crazy, it's hilarious how the guys can't handle liquor like Tequila, but almost all the Ginta Gals take it like water; even Tsukky. Just goes to show women are built different in this series.😏
omg, you at least are catching up with stuff; I must have put most of my stuff on hold for more than 5 years. 😵 Also I'll do my best to help guys out in terms of a watch guide again, if you need it. Also a good idea to partake of advice from other fans and friends who are fans since some of this gets a little fuzzy for me in terms of how I went about it myself the last time I rewatched this series.😅 Oh, and I've been meaning to say this since you incorporated a more solid way to end the series, but it feels like a very Matsudaira-style of ending the show, via shooting his cohost after telling them to say goodbye to everyone.🤣
Oh this was definitely one of the peak comedy arcs. In fact I'd say it's one of the best ones to suggest to people to get just a taste of this series' comedy imo. Just the right cast, smartly written, and just so perfectly encapsulating the series insanity in a somewhat holiday nutshell. I don't know why, but it seems like the classic kind of script you'd get out of a really good comedy sitcom of the 90s or early 2000s.
