My girlfriend's mom has a friend who sang "dear future husband" to her husband at their wedding, which reaffirms to me that nobody is getting lit to meghan trainor except the tradwife girlies at the country club
Countdown to the divorce, just kidding, I bet they Marvin Gayed And Got It On that night. But I hope he's a classy guy and bought her a ring and gets her flowers every anniversary. Ok, I'm done, sorry.
Meghan Trainor makes music for christian moms with #LiveLaughLove coffee mugs and houses straight out of 2015 pinterest. Also I found it ironic how in the title track she says that "current music has no soul" when she's one of the first artists that come to mind when people talk about soulless generic music. If her discography was a spice it'd be flour.
@@Даша-ы1я6т I haven't seen the other comments yet but I'd argue that this one doesn't sound angry at all? They're just saying that this sound has a specific audience / target demographic and thats true
I know he said he didn’t condone laughing at that TikTok guy, but I wanna know what kind of a bad place you have to be in for a Meghan Trainor album in 2022 to have you in tears
maybe they've never heard music before because they're a mole person whose lived in a cave for 5,000 years? if you have nothing to compare it to, meghan trainor would be the best musician you've ever heard, literally.
It’s honestly impressive how her musical style hasn’t changed at all. Her new songs sound exactly like her old ones, same instruments, similar melodies, same structure and everything. It takes skill to make the same exact song like 20 times in a row. She seems to be having fun, though. A lot of artists seem to lack passion for their music over the years. At least she’s having a good time.
Meghan Trainor released multiple albums where she explored different sounds. Nobody listened to them, so her manager suggested going back to her roots and releasing doo-wop sounds (which she enjoys making). I do agree she seems to be having a lot of fun and not stressing so much about charting. Just making music that she thinks is fun to produce.
@Alejandro She released Treat Myself, Christmas EP and The Love Train. She also sang as a feature for other artists. That's a lot of songs released (in a few years) considering she got married & became a mother too.
@Alejandro Agree to disagree then. I can very easily distinguish the different sounds between her first 3 official albums, with Thank You & Treat Myself being mostly a different genre to Title & Takin' It Back - Pop sounds vs Doo-wop. I was also surprised to listen to Meghan sing some Reggae and Mambo in her latest album too lol
The "Takin It Back" song is so hilarious because she's trying to criticize modern pop music and basic radio hits while simultaneously singing over the most basic and radio-friendly song you've ever heard in your life
It’s remarkable how someone can be “born in the wrong generation” and have such a generic, modern pop sound to it. None of the texture, emphasis on melody, and instrumentals that actually allowed so much past music to be special. It’s just a generic pop album where she happens to be smug and self-superior.
If Yamii in chat somehow sees this... you've got this! I survived a school shooting as well (Parkland in 2018) and it's undeniably rough. It's great that you have a non-destructive coping mechanism because it takes time to get better. Welcome to the club that no one wants to be a part of :( I'm here for you
hi! im yamii in chat. my school is central visual and performing arts in st louis missouri. its still so fresh it kind of feels unreal. idk. shit is crazy. your words mean a lot ❤️ even though part of me is glad im not alone in this im also pissed im not. there really shouldnt be so many people that have experienced this that there are multiple of us in a small youtube creators comment section yk. idk.
@@jeremyusreevu237 'mama wanna mambo' just felt like shameless cultural appropriation to me, it seems forced. but i'm not sure if i would consider any other songs as such
Her entire comment section is people praising her calling her unique, fresh, with twists on her music. I legit laughed out loud reading some of the delusional comments they leave.
I feel like pretty much every popular artists comments are like that though, they're all an echo chamber of praise for that artist. It's definitely worse when the target demographic is kids and liberal white people though, when I'm feeling really masochistic I like reading the comments on machine gun Kelly's covers on youtube lmao
fun fact: in the u.k, she's being outsold by lana del rey's born to die (came out in 2012), katy perry's teenage dream (came out in 2010), arctic monkey's favorite worst nightmare and whatever people say i am, that's what i'm not (came out on 2007 and 2006), eminem's curtain call: the hits (came out in 2005, and that's a greatest hits album), oasis what's the story morning glory (came out in 1995) and fleetwood mac's rumors (came out in 1977)
in america, she's being outsold by morgan wallen's dangerous the double album (album is almost 2 years old) and kendrick lamar's good kid maad city (album came out in 2012) she better be thankful that tiktok exists and (sort of) revived her career. it made her at least outsell carly rae jepsen. without tiktok, her album sales would as rock bottom as those like redfoo from LMFAO's. just in case you all didn't know, redfoo only sold 144 units first week. no, not 144k, only 144 units back in 2016.
Bruh, the fact that she's outsold by Born to Die shows that she's waaaay behind the time. Even Lana, had moved on from her sad girl image. Very slowly and subtly but she did. However, Miss Trainer is still stuck in 2015. Like I am shook. She needs to get out of her comfort zone or else she be forgotten in times.
@@adam.n-steve well the thing is, didn’t she already move away from this with the album that has red hair? If she’s calling modern music trash does that include the one album where she tried it?
If she wants to avoid conforming to what's on the radio she should keep the album cover and title and then have all the songs be goregrind or something
Meghan Trainor is fascinating to me because she’s trying to do empowering feminist pop but her mean-girl personality seeps through way more than she seems to realize
It’s probably because she’s a white girl who made a terrible reggae song, and a horrendous mambo song, basically using those cultures for her own profit, then turning around and making a whole song about how she wishes rap + other genres weren’t a thing. Not to mention her wanting to go back to the 1950’s when people were racist, homophobic, and when men were misogynistic and abusive, all in a romanticized point of view. Basically disregarding all the problems minorities + women faced back then.
@@danic2514 Some of us did not grow up in the Gutter. doesnt matter if the person is a bum or a millionaire, you can have some respect. Pretend like you grew up in a good home with some morals, and a mother an father.
Meghan Trainor makes the kind of music that Christian soccer moms think is "hip" because it's slightly more interesting than (most) elevator music - but not actually any fun because fun is a temptation by the devil (or something).
Taylor Swift can get away with making videos with gay people because some gay people actually listen to that shit. Without any hyperbole the guys in that "Made You Look" video felt like props.
meghan is the type of girl who thinks she gets along with the gays because she bought herself one from the store and it hasn't ran away yet (it's underfed and on a leash) whereas in taylor's case wild ones flock to her like she's a disney princess
Maybe this album flopped because the tides of pop music changed, but I whole heartedly believe that there was not much of a future for an artist who referred to their butt as “boom boom” then turned around and released a song as egotistic as Me To.
And look man, I don't take joy in hating on things. If you look in the chat, while I did say a lot of negative things, you can also see I was trying pretty hard to say at least a few nice things. But alas, I can't help it. Her sound is just so grating and annoying to me.
@@ImpendingRiot83 Y'know, this is a good point. I actually do like some of that older stuff. Not huge on it, but I do notice a distinct difference between that and this. I think Meghan just borrows the aesthetic and style of it in a very shallow manner, it's like she's doing it for the quirk rather than using it for a genuine artistic purpose. It's hard to put into words, but it just doesn't feel authentic to me for some reason.
@@ImpendingRiot83 I suppose it's that she's trying to revive a sound that I feel is played out and doesn't really belong in this era. It's like, we've already gotten everything we can out of it so attempts to emulate it end up sounding like covers of the same songs.
There used to be this girl in my highschool that absolutely loved Megan Trainer. And Pitch Perfect. And Rebel Wilson. She was the most god daum insufferable girl.
Brad, how can you call the woman with so much influence in the "Nordstrom Clear the Rack-core" music genre a flop? Just think, outlet malls could NEVER repeat the vast collection of so-inoffensive-it's-offensive pop hits without her body of work! The day her music stops being played is the day the last overpriced department store falls!
Aside from the one viral bit in I Made You Look (didn't even know she wrote it until this video 😭) I cannot remember the last time I listened to a Megan Trainor song.
Her music is literally for 30 year old moms and I can't believe it took me this long to realize it. I'm not saying having a demographic is bad but being put in a demographic is what makes Meghan even more boring and how manufactured her music is.
im a little late to this but i feel the need to share, candy crush collaborated with her and they've been promoting this album for about 2-3 weeks (and specifically the music video you saw at 6:24 so yeah it is basically sponsored bey candy crush), as one of the only people still playing candy crush daily this was the only reason i knew she was still making music lol. they made an entire event that lasted super fucking long and at the end of the event they had the music video linked to watch for everyone. it was super annoying and made me hate her even more lol.
@@niagambino1714 I do not need to get over candy crush sponsoring Meghan Trainor because I do not care. Maybe you should learn how to speak like a real human and stop being desperate for attention, thats what your parents are for, if you even have those. Loser. You can run along now.
@@jeremyusreevu237 I haven't listened to a meghan trainer album in full so I can't have a fully formed opinion but I don't know anyone who even listens to her anymore she has gone down in popularity by a lot these days
I can excuse the “back to when the music was good” phase that I had at the age of 16, but “when the baseline wasn’t basic”??? Does she even listen to music???
I like how "takin it back" manages to hit the exact same energy as "all about that bass", throwing people under the bus to raise herself up. "We're taking it back to when music wasnt hip hop" carries the same energy as "boys don't like women with small booties"
I believe it was Patricia Taxxon that pointed out that "Me Too" is basically the same song musically as "VYZEE" by SOPHIE, and I have never been the same since.
Not only does she love the 50’s she even took the racist music industry standards from the time and became a modern day Pat Boone! If you want an album that’s good that does what she’s doing just listen to Billy Joel’s Innocent Man. It’s not a perfect album but it’s clear the style in it is based off his appreciation for music he grew up with. Meghan’s comes across as appropriation because nothing she performs is ever sincere.
@@chickensoup1807 oh don’t get me wrong I love the album and it is miles ahead of anything Meghan can do. I just wanted to admit it can have its flaws as an album experience.
I had a friend whose cousin went to high school with Meghan Trainor. Needless to say her personality in her music is the same as when she was in school.
in my mind she will always be that chick who was so proud of her "curves" that she dropped a song about it and then she lost half her weight. How the turntables
Well I mean, you can be proud of your curves while still striving to lose weight and become healthier. I personally lost a LOT of weight last year and became healthier. I loved my old body, and I still love my body now, but I was VERY unhealthy. My weight was supposed to be anywhere within 118-145 lbs for my height (5’5) and I was all the way up to 190 lbs. I had to change something before it got worse.
@@flyingsha8316 okay? she didn’t “need” to be healthier, but she probably wanted to. my point is, you don’t know why people want to lose weight, and you shouldn’t judge people for doing so.
One of those weight gatekeepers woohoo. Live in action. God forbid someone tones up and loses the extra pounds, that's such a nitpick really. Comes across as butthurt too.
TRUEEEE i love how hes constantly so open, always telling us if HE finds some of the stuff he says to be out of line without leaving us to be in that limbo. hes genuinely helping shape a lot of people in a positive manner lol
That Bass got big right as I finished military basic training. It was a nightmare. After going months without any music aside reveille, the anthem, taps, cadence and whatever someone feels like belting in the shower, folks tend to embrace the absolute hell out of the first bit of music they hear. Too many folks were bopping around playing and reciting That Bass in Tech School. It was awful. Fortunately there was a cool remix of Tove Lo’s High All The Time that was being played on repeat by someone in the dorms a lot around that time as well.
It seems like she's not very passionate about music. She just likes singing and the attention/money it can bring. Nothing wrong about that tho. Just teaches the masses you can make money being mid.
Be more into black things like trap music and gettin money. How about you do that instead of pluggin the whitemans companies like bass pro shop nonsense.
I appreciate you calling yourself out more. I really like your videos and the insight you give for why you like & don’t like specific songs, but sometimes I can struggle to watch and support you because the content you create starts to come across as bullying. I’ve warmed up to your personality now, but sometimes you still blur the lines between funny valid criticism and bullying. I think checking yourself after making fun of that tik tok guy was dope and makes me want to continue watching your videos.
I have always disliked her and thought her music was hard to listen to but so many people would dog on me for that… I’m so glad there are other people like me out there
"back when the bassline wasn't basic" madam. there was ONE chord progression throughout the entire doo-wop period. it was literally called the doo-wop progression. everybody had to share one single bassline.
Meghan Trainor is one of those artists who you have to feel bad for for being on tiktok bc you know they wouldn't be there if their label didn't force them to be
"Taking it back to the days when they made that good sh*t." Isn't that just Meghan admitting that the style of pop music she makes, which was formed by modern music trends, isn't good?
It's really gross to judge her body and behind like that Brad, it has nothing to do with the music. Saying this kindly and respectfully. Like the tiktok it's not something that's part of being a music critic
I think there is a degree of relevance to be honest. It was definitely a tangent, and I think Brad probably shouldn’t have gone on it (though I mean as someone with adhd too I understand), but she’s built her biggest body positivity song on her supposed big ass, arguably that being a lie is the same as models and tabloids pushing unrealistic beauty standards, exactly what she was pushing against with “All about that bass”
When you make your whole image About body positivity and your biggest hit is about your curves it kinda does have something to do with the music. Not saying what brad did was good just that it isn’t entirely irrelevant in her case
Wrote this on another comment but I think it bears repeating so I'll say it here too. It was kind of a disappointing moment watching this as a woman. It seems to bear out that all woman-attracted content creators inevitably, no matter how nice they otherwise are, will reduce some woman/en to her parts on a video at some point, especially by pointing out what she's lacking, with the implication that she's worth less bc of it (intentional or not, that's the effect). It's tiring tbh. The way it i see it though, If I drop everyone that does it then I end up with less to watch overall. Idk. That did feel like a tooth being pulled.
@@cw9475 That's certainly a real and serious issue, that female artists who do not put forward a sexual image are discussed in a sexual manner regardless, either positively or negatively, but as I said in my other reply I don't think that's the case here. Meghan Trainor herself has introduced the topic of her body shape, and in the words of NakeyJakey, "If you wanna talk about the gator under the bed, I'm gonna talk about the gator under the bed". That is to say, it's not entirely unfair for Brad to comment on it, as Meghan herself has made it a talking point (though it would still have been better if he hadn't brought it up).
@@teethcoat4274 I wasn't super clear I suppose, but my gripe here specifically is more of a "setting an example" thing. It's pretty clear that chat and the community are a reflection of a content creator and their decisions/engagements/values etc. Brad is doing really well in addressing these topics like the whole racism thing so I'm hopeful this can be another avenue for growth? Every time this behaviour happens it reminds me that, as a woman, I'm less welcome in a community bc expressing discomfort with sexism in particular will often result in being shunted aside/told i'm overreacting anyway (not singling you out here, i mean generally). Then i'm faced with either having to quietly sit though scenes like this that make me grit my teeth, or dropping yet another creator bc wading through a sea of sexism and objectification then becomes a choice that i can make. But can't we politely ask for good change, or at least some reflection? You can understand that it would have been better for him to not have said it at all - I'll extend an olive branch. I think there was a line crossed with the video being shown on the phone and the slow motion part. Like "look at how flat she is haha" as a spectacle. As a joke? Idk. If it had been more of a throwaway little snipe it wouldn't have felt so teeth-pulling. But tbh I'd prefer what you said, not even that. Imagine he did this but with harry styles' bottom or smth? Idk I can't think of a super sexualised male artist (in the way women are) nor can i imagine a content creator dissecting a man to his sexual parts like that...bc it's a line they just don't cross for some reason.
Hey Brad, I have had this video idea you could do that would be cool. Songs that Sound the Same, or StStS. You don't have to do it considering your content is underrated as hell, but it's a thought
11:03 I disagree, you didn't say anything horrible you just laughed. It was funny. And the next one WAS adorable. Crossing the line would be shitting all over the tiktoks no matter the content
i like music from the 50s and 60s a lot, and my biggest problem with this is that she's just... not living up to that. at all. the fact that she has the nerve to complain about contemporary music in a pop song thats nothing short of trash is quite frankly embarrassing.
I don't mind her sticking to the same genre, but i can't imagine actually releasing this stuff, I make music as a hobby but I'd never actually release it
See cause the thing is , you can still make songs of the same genre and be creative with it, it’s just a very difficult thing to master and sadly she’s still stuck in the 2010s
I agree. Lizzo’s music actually has meaning behind it, not just rinse and repeat topics like “I’m a bada** and i’m gonna flex on my listeners about how much money I have” or “Yea I love myself and my curves, and i’m gonna tell the world about it!” Lizzo actually sings about her personal experiences while hyping herself and her listeners up. Not to mention the beats of her songs are actually good and always seem to fit in with the current trends.
I feel like everytime a modern pop artist tries to make a song sound old fasioned, they just make it sound like something you'd hear while shopping in Jcpennys. I think before trying to make a song sound old, you should try studying what old musicians did to get that old music style and you should listen to a whole bunch of old music, and you can really tell they didn't do that.
Meghan Trainor and that Natti person sound exactly the same because that's just how all pop singers sound right now and I find that very ironic considering Meghan's whole shtick is "born in the wrong generation, look how unique I am, unlike all that other pop"
8:35 Ah yes jazz the most traditionally wytе thing to ever come off the States p.s.: btw albeit I'm still very poorly rap-cultured I've been listening to some records lately and developing quite a liking for it and the approach to songwriting and all, it's not cheap music and I doubt all of these rock / metalheads who keep saying so could put a decent track together
Also I don't think rightful concerns about racism and analogous things are a problem (I think it's but civilized to have them) but when you do start saying things like "you're just disagreeing cause you're a гасіst whіtе" then maybe whatever the original idea was in your head got lost somewhere in the way
