I find it truly sad that "Country" radio won't touch music like this with a ten foot pole today. They play noting but pop music sung with a southern accent, and call it country. What I wouldn't give for a radio station that actually gave artists like Shooter and Jamey Johnson some air time.
Klista Bateman I wish I lived where you do, because none of the country stations in my area would ever play anything by anyone named Jennings, Williams, Jones, or Nelson. I heard a song on one of my local stations a couple of days ago that sounded like straight hip-hop, complete with auto-tune and drum machine. The funny thing is that I do get to hear Johnny Cash every once in a while, but that's only on the local "Modern Rock" station.
Jim Brooks I don't know if these guys would WANT to be on the same "country" station as the "pop-country" artists...lol this is beyond county..like Delta Blues/GrassRoots/Southern Rock had a love triangle. haha ..guys like Shooter are just the tip of the iceberg (IMO) If you haven't heard Brother Dege, Uncle Lucius, The Civil Wars, Steel drivers, Lincoln Durham, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, or Jace Everett...allow me to "tune you in" to several more highly underrated, amazing gems of the Funk-Folk underground 😎✌
I get chills every time I hear Shooters voice or see his face......it amazes me what a combination he his of his mamma & daddy both! Keep the legend rollin on Shooter, bless you!
love yhis im 65 now heard this 1st few times on radio had this song runnin thew me I could swor from back in 1970s cant place then realized had to be from Marshal tucker band went home pullued out my crate of record albums from 1970s tryin to find it lol took while till found out was Waylons son sure is amazing sounds
Shooter is the f'ing man! I'll never forget Dec 2005 when me and my pops went to see you at the Tractor Tavern. I know he enjoyed the hell out of it. My late pops even emailed me the day "Outlaw You" came out and it was instantly our favorite song. You're a talented dude, my friend. Really enjoyed what you've been doing with Yela (and esp my fav Red Dirt band Jason Boland). But I'm super proud of your nephew n what he's overcome. He's killing it right now! Struggle, Jelly, Yela, Upchurch, ACal (kinda Nashville) are really opening some eyes. Speaking of, Upchurch's 'Said F It' reminds me thematically so much of Outlaw You. His invokes a lot more humor but y'all share the anti-label, rugged individual sentiment. I read your pops' and your brother Terry's autobiographies and RIP to Terry; seemed like a really genuine dude and his book was well done. I still laugh about the coke bottle joke Waylon told your brother and sister at the TX State Fair. That was funny shit. I also checked out that little store/museum outside of Lubbock a few years ago honoring your dad while checking out Buddy Holly's grave site. Until the end of time, when I hear the name Waylon I will always think of my dad. And I'm so glad we were able to bond over music later in life. God bless you and your family. Next time you hit up Billy Bob's, I'm there. That handprint wall must be a real trip, seeing your mom, dad, friends, mentors, idols, gotta be a cool pinch yourself moment. I'm still pissed I didn't know about the Kid Rock, Miranda Lambert, Hank Jr set till after sold out but that woulda been one you tell your grandkids about.
I really dont think it sounds like wanted dead or alive, just forget that tune and listen to the sweet southern sound from Shooter, it will take you down south. Great song Shooter, keep up the good jamming! Texas loves you!
Cool jam. Been a fan since the first album. Seen Shooter live in my hometown of Baltimore Maryland in 2008. I performed this song there. I got to talk to him before the show, nice dude.
1st time I hear this on way home from work thought was an old Marshall tucker tune from the 70s that not hear in years ran home looked up my old albums had to hear this again lol at that point never heard of Shooter was hooked from that point on
Great song. If it was released in the ‘70’s I’d be willing to bet it would have been a pretty big hit. Shooter actually has a few songs that I think would have been hits if they were released back then, though I’m sure he does just fine financially regardless. Dude’s a real musician who can write some soulful shit.
I Have Been To See SHOOTER JENNINGS in concert 4 times in the last 2 and a Half Years. Hes The Real Deal. Met His Bass Player Ted Russell Kamp and he's a really Nice Guy.
God bless you shooter! Never got the credit you deserved. I've played this song hundreds of times and nobody's heard it.. glad I was exposed to it young.. such a good artist

Shooter's more southern rock than Country. Not knockin' it, not at all. Lovin' it all the same. Keep on keepin' on Mr. Jennings. Y'all put big ol' smile on my face.
Miss the mountains, the cool morning air, the lonesome sound of the train bringing the coal from the mine, Big A mountain, Honaker and I miss my only friend Doug.
got into shooter, waylon and whey through struggles music - so glad I did yes he might be a different breed when it comes to style but still embodies that outlaw spirit and sop glad he opened the door to see these guys.
Got to see him in Jan.AWESOME..great down to earth guy...love me some Shooter...I got to see Waylon several years back..grew up listening to him and when he died I didn't leave my room for two days...like losing a family member....Keep on rockin it out Shooter!!!!! Waylon forever!!
Seeing his Daddy's famous Tele was epic! I grew up in his Daddy's prime. We used to watch Hee Haw and the Johnny Cash show to see all the stars of the day. You had to plan to catch it or you missed it. No cable, no on demand hell there wasn't even VHS...lol But what you did have is love and appreciation for such amazing music..Keep it going Shooter!
Somebody start a radio station that plays shooter Jennings and Jeremy Johnson!!!!!!!! And the eagles! Poco! Crosby stills Nash & Young! Doyle bramhall II. Come on you all!
No, they actually put Waylon's famous guitar up for auction, and Nicole Kidman won the auction and gave the guitar to her husband Keith Urban. Keith was actually bidding in the auction on line, and didn't know he lost to his wife, until she gave him the guitar !!!
LEAFYANKEE65 Waylon had 2 fender telecasters like this, Keith Urban is one of my favorite singers and he has the tele with the gold hardware, if you ever watched the dukes of hazard tv series, Waylon uses the tele with silver hardware.
