This type of shoot is way outside my experience. This isn't meant to be a jab, it's a sincere question: if you have a lighting assistant and instructions on how to light from client, and a stylist for styling and composing, and a retoucher...are you just there to loan your camera equipment, set exposure, and set focus? What else is the photographers role in such a high end production when so many roles are filled by specialists?
Great question. At the end of the day, the final deliverables fall on me. As the photographer, you’re almost like a visionary on the project. You’re there to ensure that all of these specialists are in perfect symphony like an orchestra. So in a way, you’re the conductor! If the client doesn’t like the final image, it’s falls on you and not on any other specialist on set. And finally, whilst this may sound vague, a balanced final image is critical and lies in the eye of the photographer. Is the lighting, colors, Composition, angle all balanced to create the final image!
