Fun fact, Boyd Crowder dies in the book in this shootout, but Walton Goggins is such an awesome actor they decided to keep him around and wrote him into the show. The rest is history :)

I love Raylan and I think the show would have still done okay with just him, but Boyd made it exponentially better. They couldn't have possibly cast anyone better than Walton Goggins to play that part.

Goggins and Olyphant are actual friends from before the show, and it was a guest spot as a favour by Goggins who was worried about typecasting (this is on RU-vid); but as we know Boyd proved very popular. Sort of hope if they revive Justified as City Primevil is proving popular we will see him again someday.

@@harryc1971Goggins wasn't fond of perpetuating that Southern stereotype. They agreed to have his character not hold all the beliefs he espoused and merely said whatever he had to to manipulate his people. In other words, he didn't want his character to *really* be racist.

A big part of Raylan’s character on the show is that he has a deep, simmering hatred for criminals. Not particularly because he hates them on a personal level…it’s only when they’ve hurt an innocent person or demonstrated unusual cruelty that he gets visibly enraged (Tommy Buck & Robert Quarrels are good examples). For the most part, Raylan remains very nonchalant & impassive when he deals with crooks. …but he is somewhat obsessive & compulsive when it comes to routinely hunting them down; specifically because Raylan resented his father’s upbringing…who was the same sort of crook. Raylan was born into that lifestyle; and barely got away from it when he became a lawman. That’s why Winona comments that Raylan is “one of the angriest men she’s ever known.” He can’t quit. He NEEDS to punish the criminals. But here…it just might be the first time Raylan actually feels remorse. His time spent growing up around criminals hardened him; but his time spent working in a coal mine was equally influential…Boyd and he weren’t exactly friends; they just had each other’s backs through fear & literal darkness. When Raylan shot Boyd; it was immediately different…he wasn’t killing some manifestation of his abusive father, greedy crooks, or some childhood trauma. He was killing something that he had depended on; once upon a time. He did what he needed to do…but the cost made him have to sort out some old ghosts still haunting his mind.

I haven't watched it in a while but I think it is explained later that they were involved in a mine collapse and that they had been trapped together. So, whilst I don't think Raylan ever liked Boyd, I think they had been through a life and death experience together. It was "their war". It created a connection that simply does not exist outside of surving something terrible together.

@MatthewFutrell Год назад
It's mostly Hollywood B.S., however I have to admit if somebody got the draw on your with a shotgun then chambering it quickly you're left thinking "Damn, I could have reacted, but now I can't" Of course that's if they don't try their luck the moment you begin to draw. I will say the only thing almost as scary to a person breaking into your house is seeing a shotgun, is hearing one chamber.
@henryrodgers1752
@henryrodgers1752 Год назад
No, you would NOT keep a round chambered in a slide-action shotgun because the striker spring would be under constant maximum tension. Although it is unlikely with modern steel and tempering, the spring could lose expansion force and cause a light hammer strike. Shotgun rounds have large, hard primers and require a hard strike. Hope that helps.
