Shooting Huge Guns at Bad Guys 

The thing with sims shown in this video and a previous one is they all end in some manner of shot out which most police encounters do not. I understand that for Matt and the owners of the Gun Shop this is more of a video game and you want to test your reaction and aim but I hope Police have sims where shooting 1st is not the right solution

What would be the purpose of using a sim be if it did not end in a shoot out though? I hear what you are saying and agree but if it ended in anything else that a shoot out I dont see the purpose of them using it as a practice method.

they shoot when someone is pointing a gun at them, the person pointing the gun knows this too.

Because as a officer you will be in situations where you are wired, ready to shoot but the active shooter has committed suicide and everyone running at you are just fleeing civilians.

That is why we call them shoot no shoot drills; because you may not always be justified in using force. It is just as important to use force when needed, as it is to avoid force when force is not justified. Making sure you are paying attention to what the suspect is doing. In these drills, he could be facing away from you and turn really quickly with a camera in his hand.... would shooting him be justified? That's the point of the drills though, to learn how to identify threats quickly and make sound decisions. No one gets it right every time, but it gives us something to think about for future purposes. These drills obviously all ended with "shoot," but the guy running it could have chosen drill which end with "no shoot." And for civis running these drills, it gives them a better understanding of having to make that split second, life changing, choice.

+Taka-the-great that's a pretty common way of clearing an entry point. Aim an RPG or AT4 or any of the Carl Gustaf mk1 to 4 recoilless rifles about a foot below a ground or first floor window and hope there's a heater unit on the inside and you'll have a good sized breech and the whole room cleared of hostiles.

These things are built for training professionals - sure they could have chosen to use different scenarios for the video but they are all going to be some degree of disturbing for normal people.
