The Mauser C96 is one of the best known self loading pistols of the World. The Red 9 (9mm Luger version, manufactured during the 1st World War) is quite rare. Watch my short film about its history, system, tactical use, disassembly - reassembly with some accuracy tests 25 - 40 m. Hope you'll enjoy it! Greetings to Han Solo! :)

@@escott3829 I had a similar issue in my red 9 where sometimes the gun would eject an unfired round as well as the case of the just fired round. The reason for any feed problems in 9mm is that the c96 doesn't really have a feed ramp, the bullets are right in line with the barrel, and the 9mm guns used the same frame as the 30 cal guns, which means the 9mm rounds which are about 1/3rd shorter overall length than the 30 Mauser rounds are sitting in a magazine made for 30 Mauser. I would assume your problem is caused by your mag spring getting worn down, it's not holding the rounds under enough pressure and they are sliding foward due to the extra space.

There are some sold in Gun Broker in the US with very high price. I encountered one in the same condition in 1993 that belonged to the ex chief of police that has been taken from the hand of death old man who committed divide due to his illness in the late 1950. The asking price was $650.00.There was no stock. The second one under the same condition that I found in 2015 at the gun club in Milford, Connecticut for $2,500.00. Again without shoulder stock.

As the owner of a C96 made in 1905 (and in the original 7.63 mm Mauser), a couple of comments: (1) the manufacturing quality is very, very good. (2) the ergonometrics when shooting with the shoulder stock attached are extremely poor, in terms of the hammer repeatedly "whacking" the web of your hand/thumb if you use a "normal" grip as shown here (i.e., wrapped around the stock). From the video, the problem may be more manageable with the "Red 9s," as the 9mm Parabellum is a bit less powerful than the original 7.63 mm Mauser (which reportedly was the most powerful "standard" pistol cartridge until the .357 Magnum was introduced). But with the 7.63 mm, it's a handful! (3) Any version of the C96 has a LOT of "little parts." I did not have any problem disassembling/reassembling . . . on my nice, dry, clean WORKBENCH. But doing the same in a muddy, wet World War I trench would be a NIGHTMARE. ON a related point: I love your videos - particularly those which show you hunting with "antique" firearms -- and shooting better than I ever could with something more "modern"!

LOL, me too. Clumsy me, when I take things with itty bitty parts apart, I do it over a table with a towel or sheet so when I inevitably drop something I can hopefully find it again. I also get some small glass bowls out to separate and put the little parts in. The worst are eye glasses parts. The worlds tiniest screws. You have to use tweezers to put them back into the threads and use jewelers screw drivers. And why do the still make slot head screws for anything?

Awesome video, I truly am in love with this gun! Here's an odd question: you can shoot the Tokarev cartridge in the 7.63 Mauser, but since it is a stronger cartridge, it will put more stress on the bolt, which is a logical conclusion. But wouldn't a stronger recoil spring adress this problem? Or is it the pressure on the chamber that you should be worried about?

I'm going to be honest. I don't know much about firearms whatsoever. (GASP, an American who doesn't know every gun ever??) haha, but there's always been something about this gun design and how it looks like it would fit in the hand that I've always sort of 'liked'. It's difficult to describe. The shape of the gripe, maybe. The narrow barrel. I just like it. I don't think I'd mind buying one in the future. I mean, I guess a gun that looks that nice probably costs a lot of money and yes a gun license is a no brainer but still, it's a very aesthetically pleasing gun. :)

Patrick Briotte I swear, one day, I will dress up as Han Solo if I ever mock up one of these pistols to look like his blaster when I go to the range. I've already done it as a stormtrooper with a Sterling SMG. XD

You don't need a firearms license for class 1 weapons in the us...

I wouldn't doubt it. It's just going to be a shame when the only specimens available are in museums or in collector hands.

+Legan Arabach China and Spain made a few hundred thousand unliscensed copies. Don't know how hard it is to get hold of one.

+Legan Arabach I know they do - but you could also check Star Wars replicas. This is the base of Han Solos DD Blaster

+Legan Arabach There were lots produced, it will be some time before they end up like that. You can usually find stuff of this age that was produced in far smaller quantities pretty easily, finding one of these shouldn't be difficult.

Amazing feat of machining. Amazing how they were able to start with nothing and design a pistol, where as today everything is based off of the same couple designs.

Bertisevil666 I Honestly like the Colt 1911 handgun. I own a commander and is the best semi auto pistol I have ever owned. Showing of their 1911 clones made by other companies is annoying. Why show off a clone when a original is a lot better?
