I competed on the state level with my national guard unit back in the 90's with M14's in a match similar to this. It was the governor's twenty. Very similar course of fire but only went to 500 yards. Earned my governor's twenty tab, Army excellence in rifle competition badge and several plaques. The good old days when I could actually still get into positions w/out a bunch of snapping and popping in the joints. lol
we have a similar yearly festival like this in switzerland, only its for kids aged 13-17. its called knabenschiessen. we get gov rifles to shoot and a supervisor, so really any kid can join and try their luck. i went every year and it was always fun, almost advanced to the second round once. also its only 5 shots so you really want to be as precise and patient as possible with every shot.
@@Absaalookemensch since 1991 they are allowed to participate and a few winners have been girls since then. however only residents or children going to school in the kanton/state are allowed.
Seeing the range pit being man powered makes me think of every USMC range i was ever on and how im sure its cheapness was a factor for the Marines but also the fact its the safest way to have live ammo shot at you lol.
Anyone else kinda excited to see the new sig service rifle compete in the 100 I feel like the cartridge will just dominate at these ranges and those rifles are gonna piss everyone at this shoot off…
@@chad-chaderson8421 a better round can make all the difference its a good reason they switched from 7.62x51 to 5.56x45 or how russia switched from 7.62x39 to 5.45x39. the 6.5 has already proven to be more aerodynamic than the 5.56 which means less interference from the wind
saludos desde Colombia un saludo que hermoso canal me parece genial una competición tan divertida e interesante todos se ven felices, tranquilos y seguros un gran ambiente familiar🤗🤗🥰
@@BblpBurJIa3 Also, Russia before the USSR had it's own tradition of gun ownership, so why should someone have to be American to be into guns? maybe after Putin someone who is even more reactionary in this area can change the laws?
sad that less than a hundred thousand people who have seen this can see a bunch of guns, and a bunch of people, all getting along like they were meant to. Look, even kids!
The confidence of the active duty guys is that shit that lets ya sleep slightly more sound at night especialy the marines but mad props to the older era rifle guys especialy that kid shooting his dads m14 thats special as fuck my pops was force recon the m14 was second only to the m60 as far as guns he loved id love to own one so expensive tho
I hope to get to make it out one year, but part of me feels like things are getting a bit too far from the roots of the competition. The purpose built shooting jackets especially. I don't ever recall seeing anything like that on a battlefield. If it's a service rifle competition, then I feel that any allowed gear should be service grade as well. A small gripe overall, but it always bugged me.
@@cstgraphpads2091 By "shooting like that" do you mean standing offhand and prone? Because those are pretty common battlefield firing stances. But I agree, it should be about the rifle and the shooter, nothing else.
@@kito1682 Possibly. I suppose theres nothing to be done about that though. Though I admit, if i caught one of my guys doing that in the field I would feed him his magazine. It is a classic line grip, but I have no ideal why lol.
IMHO(In My Humble Opinion) Biden would claim that he not only shot the match, but that he won it with a PERFECT SCORE back(sometime) in the 1900's with a double barrel shotgun 😁‼️
I have a question. What clothing brand are your khaki shirts? I especially like the darker khaki shirts you both wear occasionally. I was looking on the internet, but not seeing a match. Please enlighten me. Enjoy your videos always. Even though I was a rifle expert six times in six years in the Marine Corps, I would never approach this level of marksmanship on a consistent basis. SSgt WL Drylie active duty 1970-76.
@@puzzledobserver7644 he asked him what kind of shirt he was wearing. how is that embarrassing? are you a little insecure about things? do you need some help? take care of yourself, man.
Looks awesome id love to try it. Question though, why are the rifle stocks positioned soooo unrealistically high up on the shoulder for while standing? Without researching my question any, to me I am guessing its something along the lines of making length of pull equal /fair? If you need the stock riding that high just to get a dead on look down the scope then why not run a high position cantilever mount for the scopes to get the stock back down where it belongs at, securely pushing all of the pad into the shoulder. Dont get me wrong i hate goofy high rise scopes if its aesthetics theyre going for lol, but something tells me thats not the reason why they do it
In the standing position, its the most stable way to shoot. Your resting ur left elbow on your body to create skeletal support rather than muscular support. You will notice that while shooting in the standing position, they are standing straight up, some even slightly leaned back. This is so that the upper arm can rest on/be locked against the torso. Since the rifles are service rifles, they are designed for combat shooting. Combat shooting stances are much different and in combat stances you would see the stocks of the rifles being mostly covered by the shoulder. But in this accuracy based skeletal supported standing position, the rifle stocks sit very high on the should just due to the rifles being held in an unnatural way, or at least a way that they were not specifically designed to be held. Hope this helps.
@@dontask8979 Agreed, theres no recoil but I believe what he means is this is the stance they take whilst standing, to get the most accuracy as possible, since theres no leaning into anything for support or proping up on something for stability. Its pretty hard to make far off precise shots (atleast competitively how they are) just free standing and aiming. Now I see why they use this stance, makes more since to me because youre actually propping up on your own body this way for more steady accuracy
Yea exactly there's a movie where a guy is named billy jack and he's a green beret and an Indian and when he kicks butt he takes his shoes off and does it barefoot ... I'd say the guy can't give his real name
Yes. A major seller is Creedmoor Sports. Most shooters use a "hardback" coat. In standing, the coat is cinched tight (middle buckles not so much). In sitting and prone using the top 1 or 2 buckles. The coat has a number of grip pads.
Proves our service men and women are the very best. Glad it wasn’t 15 shots that Marine was smoking the X in the shoot off round . Thank you men for your service. And congratulations to the civilians that showed the heart to be the best also.
No they are not. The Afgans and the vietnamese proved to be much better. Sorry, only americans think that their Army is the best. Then they go and lose wars.
Question: If an Army Sniper or Marine Scout Sniper showed up with their rifle would they let them compete as their Sniper Rifle is their service rifle?
no. service rifle is strictly M16 with max 4.5x power magnification, m1a or m1 garand. sniper rifles would be considered "match rifle" or "any/any" and can be used in the long range match which is done at the 600/1000 yard line
I Shot with Billy ray Willamson and Carlos Hathcock lll did it with a M14 OPEN SIGHTS Brown box ammo . Now they allow Mouse turg gun with a SCOPE and hand loaded ammo. Cut me a break.
It would be interessting to know the rules, like why nobody is using a free-floating handguard? The scopes also seem small for static shooting at long range but there still seems to be some scopes with greater magnification than others but all seem to be LPVOs.
Google has all you would like to know but The optics can have a maximum magnification of 4.5x. There are some restrictions on the physical size of the scopes used, but most normal 4x scopes made for AR rifles will work. The objective lens cannot be larger than 34mm. The rest is easy to find though
WTH? When I was a Marine 1996-2000 and back in after a year from 2001 -2005 We would shoot 500 yards with Iron sights . True test of marksmanship. No scopes assisting.
Modern day technology my friends. Me personally doesn’t matter. I’ll shoot irons or optics. But Optics no doubt have reduced the training curve of teaching recruits/trainees how to shoot accurately.
I agree with you, they should have left optics out altogether. Optics are one of those things where, on average, the more you spend, the better you're advantage, and thats never a good thing for any competition. But it has been a problem with bastic training and AIT for the last several years. In most cases, irons arent even taught anymore. Even the most durable optic can, and does break. Irons can never be replaced. Optics should always be treated as exactly what that they are: luxuries.
Blocks the peripheral vision. Early morning light at Camp Perry hits your right eye if you are on Relay 1 and possibly Relay 2. There are multiple means of doing that.
Sad. This looks awesome and I've always wanted to go.😢 But, In the Air Force you have to be Security Forces AFSC🤦♂. Like cops are the only people that know how to shoot.🙄
Maybe u should learn how government works?? Look up how laws are made . Plus there’s the courts which has many of the orange kings picks on the bench . This president will abide by the law unlike the last POS
Lmfao the targets like 4’x4’ and people are using optics. I’d love to be able to enter with the good old Lee enfield and show some of these guys what is what without the scope. Not saying there isn’t great shooters at the event but things like that are pure comedy to me.
@@kerbalairforce8802 sadly as a Canadian be hard to go to the real thing but buddy believe me when I tell ya a target that bloody big let alone with a scope is peanuts. I could understand a target that big at 600 but for 200 that’s laughable should be ar500 size at 200 and even that’s abit big if we are talking precision. Aim small miss small bud. ind.hunt.ica I’m about shooting hearts and lungs not living room window size targets.
@@fastr144 Like I said, 200 yards sanding is hard. But here in Switzerland we shoot at 330 yards with iron sights only. It is part of the obligatory yearly shooting for every man military assigned (basically every male). But it is also open to every one (even youngs !) that are interested. This show funnily exposes our field shooting (something else than the mandatory military shooting but with the same rules) : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jgYJ5V2HYy4.html A good shooter can stay in a 7.9' (20cm) diameter circle at 330 yards (300m)
The rules allowing optics up to 4.5 changed in 2016. The reasoning being that the military had switched to issuing optical sights. One still needs a spotting scope for wind and mirage as well as scoring. The Army determined that it would be better to train new shooters with irons first and then transition to optics. That way the fundaments would be ingrained.
Too bad thats the ONLY thing these Troops are good at, would be sick to have an actual well-rounded soldier instead of some dummy who gets a patch and is trash at everything else, including being a Soldier I’m looking at you MAJ Kagel…
And by the end of the day you can do this neat trick where you can clap with your shoulder blades. It can be done but at those ranges the benefits of a larger caliber are outweighed by the liabilities. (BTW I wear a P100 tab)
We use specifically designed 77 gr Sierra HPBT Matchkings for 200 & 300 and 80 gr for 600. Burger makes an 80.5 gr. Folks shoot .223 in 80, 80.5, or higher in Palma matches. No bullets are "immune"; especially at Camp Perry.
