Come Dine With Me takes people who are experts in the art of giving the perfect dinner party and puts their skills to the test. All are great cooks and excellent hosts - but they're all very different. So, if one person's perfect dinner party is another person's evening from hell, how will our hosts cope with a whole week of each other's hospitality?
Each night for a week, one of our hosts will throw a dinner party for the others. They all have their own unique styles of cooking and entertaining, but they're all determined to impress, because at the end of each evening, the guests will give their host a mark out of ten. The host with the most points at the end of the week wins £1,000 pounds. Come Dine With Me has expanded to a variety of formats including singles, couples and celebrity specials!

@@raveninnsbruck9166 I thought puff pastry was one of the harder ones to make alongside filo? Plus it’s a lot more difficult than shortcrust which is what the following contestant makes

@@xaoc6084 wouldn’t say nobody makes their own puff pastry, lol. Improper technique makes it really dense, but it’s fairly straightforward given the steps are followed properly. Agree he would have gotten the pass if his starters were more involved. It’s probably more commonplace nowadays to use store bought than home made, same with filo. But if you’re grading authenticity, go with home made. No shame in using store bought though, however, if you’re on a tv show that’s where the whole point is to showcase your cooking skills…

@@calvinouellette4545 I mean I largely if not fully agree with what you have said. Puff pastry isn't persay hard to make but is extremely time consuming and if anything hindersome, I do agree it is likely out of convenience that people resort to it rather than making their own, I don't think it is inherently bad however as quality isn't massively compared between the two, It isn't like a shortcrust pastry where the difference is stark (at least not in what I have personally observed). In terms of a cooking show I agree ideally everything should be homemade, a Wellington in my eyes though is complex enough and making the comparisons between the pastry is somewhat unfair. Perhaps there is an argument that he should have made his own puff pastry even if it would make minuscule difference, although I do feel it is overly picky (his starter was shoddy though so he kind of dug his own grave). A wellington isn't an easy dish to pull off even with store brought pastry, making the rest of the components to me would be sufficient as the difference between pastry is honestly neglible, he seemed to do it out of laziness however which is something I think should be accounted for. So although this is a word salad, I largely agree

I’ve never, ever had a Wellington and they look so sumptuous and I think for my birthday this year, I’m going to find a restaurant that serves beef Wellington and have a piece for my 45th birthday.

I think a lot of British style home cooking is kind of a lego style of arrangements though? It's often just a lot of putting things beside each other. I think beef wellington is the a great exception though. A shame he didn't do it right.

@@devereuxxo I think that’s such an ignorant and misrepresentation based on stereotypes. Crème Brûlée has contention for being British, Pastries and pies aren’t simply ‘put’ together. It just isn’t fully true but relies on a hegemony based since ww2 rationing. It’s poor, try again.

@@rebeccaradford7982takes a while when you’re rolling multiple layers of hard butter through the pastry. Has to be quite a lot of layers too not just 3-4. So yeah time consuming

@@shadou1234567 I'd say it's a 'hosting' competition first and so I never really get why people grill so hard about the creation of something from scratch. It's Come Dine With Me (and have a great evening) not Come Take Apart My Cooking With Me (and focus only on the food served and how it was made). Sometimes a perfect arrangement of pre-made ingredients can be appreciated just as much as the arrangement of homemade ingredients. A pencil can draw a stickman that brings a lot of entertainment or a work of art that brings a lot of critical acclaim - it's still just a pencil.
