Electrician here , if those are fluorescent tubes you can put tube guards on them so if you accidentally whack one with a long board it contains the shards of glass and powder. You may want to consider switching to led tubes. Merry Christmas and thanks for the tour!

Good to know. When I built the shop in 2005 I don't think the LED's were an option. Fortunately I've never had any issues, partly because they are relatively high. Thanks for the suggestion. In my next shop...

I usually only make it through a shop tour in about 3-4 minutes of watching, but this one was different. Your shop and approach is very similar to mine. Many of my machines are the same as yours. I even have an Inca mortising table. Thank you so much for posting this excellent tour! Please have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Nice to hear! Interesting that we have similar machinery, including the Inca. Is yours like mine or do you have the one with the tilting table? I looked at both when I bought mine but the tilting table version was more complicated. If I need to mortise something at an angle I cut a wedge to put under the stock.

@@CarlStammerjohn Carl, I just have the mortising table. I won on eBay a couple years back. The table saw is on my wish list. I have many older machines, a PM 66 I bought in the 90’s. Several General machines, the ones made in Quebec. A Tannewitz model U, and a Hammond trim o saw. I have a wealth of metalworking machines as well. I have way too much stock, and at 63 probably need to thin the heard lol! Loved your shop.

What a treat to see your shop. I took several classes over the years at Cerritos and I always saw your name on the catalog but could never fit your classes into my schedule. Thank you for sharing your setup. I’d like to see the clamp rack up close, could you please show it use in detail?

You're welcome! Glad you enjoyed the tour. I'll put the clamp rack on my to-do list.

Hey Carl, are you set up for 3 phase or just single phase? I know most larger disc sanders are 3 phase so that’s why I’m asking.
@CarlStammerjohn
@CarlStammerjohn 8 месяцев назад
Your assumption is correct; the sander was 3-phase as purchased. I had 3-phase at the big shop, but I bought a single phase motor when I moved to the home shop. I would have purchased an inverter if I had more 3-phase machines, but the sander was the only one.

You didn’t show the tool box by clamp rack
@CarlStammerjohn
@CarlStammerjohn 8 месяцев назад
It didn't occur to me to discuss it, since I don't use it much anymore. When I was teaching I used it to lug my tools to the school. Since I retired, it just sits there taking up space. I got the design from The Toolbox Book by Jim Tolpin.

How is the shop heated?
@CarlStammerjohn
@CarlStammerjohn 8 месяцев назад
It's not heated. I live near Los Angeles where it rarely gets cold enough to be uncomfortable. If I wanted to warm things up a bit I could run the dust collector...

@@CarlStammerjohn LOL...I'm in Canada, heating is part of our existence here. I could try running the collector for heat but I'm thinking it might not start frozen.
