I was just thinking, watching this, mind blown, of the day April told us, she quit her job. Was that very long ago? I don't know. As someone else pointed out, she's the only person saying 2020 was a wonderful year(we all need more of that). Just so well done April. You are one of my favorite teachers.
I remember her having to go into her neighbors shop to borrow his bandsaw and planner!!! Very good job April, one of the videos that motivated me was the extra time you took to weld on every post again because you didn’t like the way it laid out when you cut them. Looked a lot better after the extra time and effort
So I have to ponder...how many years before that shop turns a profit? Even shops that have been around a long time don't spend that kind of money on equipment. Not being negative just trying to figure out how can I do that.
That is how you do it. Recognize your strengths and weaknesses and then find someone to strengthen your weaknesses. Great job, April. I wish you continued growth and success.
From an ambitious young lady in her garage with a few Triton tools, to an accomplished businesswoman, artist, designer and inspiration to girls and women...plus a lot of us men as well. I wish you nothing but successful ventures in the future! Thanks for bringing us along;-)
As a woman who knows how to use most tools, grew up on a farm and even was a mentor for a robotics team, I literally cried when I saw that table saw! I love to see everyone succeed but to see you realize a dream as a female in a not so female friendly profession is so nice. My daughter (grown woman now) knows how to do most of the same things I do and her dad was behind her all the way also. Congratulations, prayers and good luck!
April; you are now in the top-tier 1% of makers, shop owners, production houses, and RU-vidrs.......and yet, you still come across as that humble younger woman learning her craft in the garage and small shop, and so most of us part-time home hobbyist can still see "ourselves" in you! Congratulations on your success. I wish you well! DD
As long as we’re doing ‘I remember’, the second video of yours I saw started with you celebrating you had quit you’re job. My goodness you’re an amazing person. Thanks for all you share.
My internet crush. Smart, beautiful, works her ass off, and appreciates the small things in life. Such an amazing woman. So proud of you, April. You've come such a long way.
@@freighter1097 lucky no one dies of the flu, pneumonia, heat disease, obesity complications, cancer and old age anymore or think how high those numbers would be!
The Wood Shed is about 20 minutes from where I live. I stopped in one day not long ago and met your mom. She’s a real sweetie. You’ve come sooo far from those first videos I saw in your little work shed at home. Well done April! Keep the empire building! 👍🏽👍🏽💪🏽
I also just spent around $10,000 on several Grizzly equipment pieces. Glad to see I made a good choice. Bandsaw, table saw/shaper table, drum/disk sander and two lathes.
there are dreamers, wishers, thinkers, then there are doers. the ones that make it all come true. you are an inspiration to the future doers. congrats on everything so far and good luck moving foreward.
An amazing success story... Still a humble young woman, who loves what she does and has become a role model for what an individual can accomplish with vision, energy and tenacity. She went to the next level when she became internationally known. She has literally become the female Norm Abram....
Such an AMAZING journey! From doing DIY in the garage to ALL THIS! Such an inspiration and thank you for being awesome and giving my 4 daughters a strong , smart female role model 👍🏻
This feels very different from most shop tours where people are kinda flexing their big tools that they have that they don't really need, this feels more like showing all that you've accomplished in your process of achieving your dream of actually putting these tools to good use with a great business plan and not just making silly random stuff. I've seen your entire journey and I'm inspired by your motivation, keep it up April!!
SOOOO excited for you April!!!!! You have come so far, very proud of you!!! I pray that God continues to bless you, your family, and all your endeavors.
I think it's really smart how you have a plan for a specific workflow with processing logs into slabs and further products, as well as a flexible system where you can do other products and services.
Omgosh you are amazing! I found you on a small building FB page here in MO. I am 65 & have always loved to build. In fact in the rural school in Missouri I was one of the first girls they allowed in wood shop class. Thank you for your time & I wish you the greatest success! You will do amazing things! Ohhh & I love love your new shop!
Yes. You have come so far. Well done. I still remember vividly the video of you quitting you job and becoming a full time self employed person. You should be very proud as to what you accomplished. You are an inspiration for anyone.
First of all it is nice to hear someone making plans for live music and mingling. Great post pandemic plans. I love seeing your Mama in the background, she sure loves her girl all right. Shop looks great, Congratulation's. Take Care and God Bless
Congratulations April. I heard someone say today, about a colleague that we lost, that he "lived life on his own terms - something that many people talk about and dream about, but very few do." I think you also are living life on your own terms. Don't stop... keep going. And make sure to tell those people around you that you appreciate them. Congratulations again.
Congrats April. You were my very first inspiration in woodwork: from when you started out as a house wife trying to fix things around the house, up till when some tool companies began to sponsor your videos, now this!!!? You are truly amazing, and I am starting my own wood shop too. You are doing awesomely well. With love from Nigeria ❤❤❤
This is amazing April! Great work. I've been following you for years and I'm continually impressed with your hard work and vision. I can't wait to see how this new space comes together.
jetzt sieht man es ganz genau, es ist kein Hobby mehr, sondern eine professionelle Firma. Alles Gute dafür ! Du schaffst das, denn Du machst das mit großer Freude und Begeisterung.
The first video I watched of April was 4 years ago when building the wood fence and to just see how far she’s come from that time is amazing. Congrats. ❤️👏🏽👏🏽
Oh April! I am so proud of you! I think you & I started our woodworking journey at the same time back in 2014. I do not have a business built out of it but I sure have done fun remodels on my house, built some great furniture & cabinets for my family and helped a lot of charities, all watching your RU-vid videos. I am a 65 year old Grandma but so glad I learned so much about woodworking. Never too old to learn! I wish you the very best!
Its amazing to me to know i was watching you build your first work bench several years back and to see how far youve taken your passion for woodworking and all the other things you have done, remember making french cleats? That video inspired me to redo my old mancave😊you should be very proud April, stay safe, John
I know we don't know each other other than my comments but i am so proud of you. You dont half ass anything. You're truly an inspiration to all of us makers. The shop looks great id love to check it out sometime! Keep being awesome april
Congrats on your progress; it's very rewarding I'm sure! As someone who has a similar shop with similar equipment, two quick suggestions before all the ducts go in... 1. Move the wide-belt sander closer to the planer. You are going to be doing lots of slabs, and even at 24", many slabs will not fit on the planer, so the first tool that will process them will be the wide-belt, and it is located in a very inconvenient place to do so. You'll use the slider after the wide-belt, so moving the wide-belt 'upstream' would be good. 2. While that dust collector LOOKS big, it is actually NOT going to be enough to support the shop tools AND three CNC machines simultaneously. Your shop is big enough that you will need to bail on the big green bear with regards to dust collection and actually build a system that has an airlock and an outdoor cyclone that dumps directly into a bin/dumpster so that it can run continuously. If you don't have that, you will be shutting down all machines multiple times a day to empty the current dust collector. Wish you the best of luck as you grow your enterprise!
WoW! You have come a long way - Congrats! As a single person, pro shop, when I am in milling mode I can produce 500-550 gallons of sawdust per day. That requires me to empty my drum every 20 minutes. With 4 people working, I predict that you will find the dust collection will require constant emptying. No doubt you had the dust collector sized appropriately for the machines as far as suction is concerned, but it is placed at the far side and the collector holding capacity is a bit small for the amount of work you will be doing. Congrats on the amazing growth you have had!
Recommendation: Catalog your long term (and maybe short term) storage items. That way when you need something you can use an excel sheet (or maybe some other software) to find exactly where the item is.
It feels like five minutes ago I was watching you in your old old workshop, planning were to put the stickers on your door or building a small material cart. In a weird way I feel proud of how far you’ve come seeing it from the start. So glad you’ve been able to use this year to help your business xx
Well done April and all the best wishes for The Wood Shed project. You came a long way since fitting out your previous 'new' workshop and building the Rolling Lumber Rack. A rack that I copied and serves me well ever since. Was this just five years ago?
How have I been watching you for 6 years already?! It's been great to watch your journey over the years. Hard work and a little luck always pays off. You seem really genuine and it come across in your videos. GL!
Congrats April! Very impressive how you started with your WilkerDo's site and youtube was only a secondary add on for videos for your blog style creative tutorials, and you have evolved significantly since then. It seems you have had a combination of flowing with the direction you have been taken by your popularity, and making smart moves along the way to capitalize on it... and of course none of this is possible without a nose to the grindstone will not be denied hardworking approach!
Hey April, I wanted to thank you for giving the 10% discount on Grizzly tools! My wife just gave me the go-ahead for a new bandsaw for Christmas! I really needed one! Merry Christmas to you and your entire family and crew! Edit... I went to purchase two tools from Grizzly and they told me that the two I picked were not included in the 10% discount which totally bummed me out!
Who gives this a thumbs down she has worked her butt off for a beautiful expensive expansion why hate be happy congrats we will definitely stop in if ever in Texas

Exactly. Should be motivational but humans being humans, envy is the dominate emotion in many when seeing this.
My uncles machine shop, was laid out now it takes a lot of time and energy to move equipment around and my uncle was known as the move it man. Its good you found someone who knows how to set up a shop for good work flow. Id have someone make me a jib crain to handle material movement in the shop. That and a fork truck. For logs a clamp truck used by the printing industry to lift and move logs. Put stick on sand paper on the clamps or anti skid tape. These are made to move big rolls of paper. A large jib crain on an I beam down the center of the shop that way moving slabs won't require a fork truck all the time in and around the machine's. 1 ton should do it but electric. Also a swing boom. I know these are used in machine shops to move metal, but they work with any media.
I’ve learned so much from you! Congratulations, we can only imagine what you’ve done to make this happen. I look forward to seeing your business thrive even more. What an inspiration for us all.🥲
I remember the the first time I seen one of your videos. The look of wanting to learn. That red hair. That tiny little space. Know there’s a power house in the making. I do understand that you didn’t do it yourself. My how you’ve grown.
There are so many people, especially me, that are so proud of you and what you have accomplished. I am 72 years old and still as passionate about building as when I was 13. So it’s awesome to see the passion manifest in you. Keep up the good modeling! Lotsa Oregon Coast Love, Wayne
I smiled through this whole tour! Your vision is beautiful and inspiring. I can’t wait to see the finished space(s). Thank you for inviting us in and sharing your excitement!
April, I would love to see a video where you watch clips from your first couple of videos and talk about "April then" as opposed to "April now" and talk about your personal RU-vid journey
@Scott P... would be nice.....and tell us all the people that helped “her” build the shop, bandsaw mill, tool arsenal....etc” “Willing to work hard” is only PART of the formula for success. Others that “help you” (Whether volunteering their time, Money or knowledge) should be noted if we’re being honest....having said that success is a beautiful thing if it’s passed on to others willing to work for it....food for thought!
@@justmakingit4668 This was one of the first woodworking channels I subscribed to 7 years ago because I wanted to build a table that would fold up into the wall and the video that gave me the confidence to build it (and I still use it!) was April who was also new to all this . I've just been amazed at what she has accomplished in those 7 years, and sometimes it's really interesting watching someone see their very first videos again and see how they react to it
April, I am so very, Very, VERY happy for you!!! I know that dedication and hard work can go a long way towards achieving what you have, but it also takes money...something I don't have, nor can I obtain. Some of the things that I want to do require some of the tools you have such as the CNC 4X8 machines. I guess what I am trying to say in a nutshell is that I realize what it takes to get to where you are now, and I am so very happy for you!!! You hung in there and made it happen! Stay Safe, Stay Healthy, and Stay Happy!!! Keep that World's Most Beautiful Smile going!!! If I ever get out of the mess I am in now, I definitely have a goal to visit your shop...maybe even stay for a week or so to watch and learn if that would be permitted.
Place I used to work (was there 40 yrs before retiring) put in an enormous copy machine (biggest I’ve seen ever) right outside my office. I put a sign on the wall behind it that said “USS Kitty Hawk”. The boss was not amused.
Being a Texas gal, one of these days we need to collaborate. We could start with one of my Plantation swings. Then, we could build one of my game tables.
Her channel is in decline and she knows this which is why she's moving toward production. RU-vid channels have a life span, and her channel is already past its prime. Veritasium covers this topic as well.
I have been watching your videos for a few years now and genuinely get excited when I see one I haven't seen yet. I downsized and moved into a townhouse and am just about done with my wood shop. Just like you everytime I move I learn from my previous shop builds. If your ever in Nashville Tennessee doing a job let me know I would love to come help with it. Thanks for the great content!
For any company or business to have an Est. 2020 sign will say a lot. I've been following your channel since your first place, and to quote Virginia Slims "You've come a long way baby." Congratulations.
April I remember the videos that you made waaaayyyyy back. It's so awesome to see your dreams work out and come to life, a true inspiration to new and in process woodworkers. Don't forget to keep up with those small projects like sound proof dust collection lean-to's and chicken coops!
I have few words as I am still remembering the video where you were so excited to be leaving your full time job to venture out on your own. It must feel so good to have come so far. I'm floored by your success and your ever-lasting positive attitude. I wish you nothing but continued success.
I started watching you because at the end you make a beautiful gesture. I can see you've achieved a lot with your work. Congratulations. You did a good job. Regards Geordy
You're AMAZING. Been a fan/follower for a while. You're so inspiring. I will definitely roadtrip all the way from San Francisco to come to one of your maker meetups / workshops one day!! THANK YOU for all that you do. Much love.
Great to see the Grizzly equipment and the wood shed layout. I was able to get my wife interested in helping me in my shop by having her watch your videos from when you started your youtube channel. Good good luck in 2021.
Great progress April, this new location will make a great location for a yearly Wood Shed bash and possibly do some vendor seminars and training sessions.
