I actually do the opposite when I'm shopping in any 'kuinama boutiques'. I wear something that's covering my arms,neck and a pair of tights. You never know what kind of infection the previous wearer had and the clothes could be carrying contagious skin diseases. I learned that the hard way when my bro got this fungal infection that was legit almost impossible to cure.

Your skin is equipped to fight such easy stuff. As long as you're not immunocompromised (your immune system is not weak with say hiv,cancer etc) you don't have to be afraid to try mtumba, just don't wear it the whole day. Then after the shopping, take a warm shower and use dettol or a a disinfectant of your choice. For the clothes, also rice them with dettol and iron before wearing. I also used to over think these stuff but there's a reason we eat healthy and stay safe let the body do the protection... xoxo.

Not forgetting, that signature mtumba perfume is as a result of disinfection, they don't get in the country directly from sowmomes body, they're washed and perfumed in high temperatures.

I love that you went with your sisters because sisters and girlfriends can be very frank about items that aren't flattering even when you blindly like them 😄Also, they are the best at playing 'good cop bad cop' with when haggling over prices with vendors. Another tip that may be helpful, carry a bottle of water and wear a cap if you can. The sun in Nairobi can be brutal. When you wore the new sweater in the car I actually gasped. I've heard horror stories of skin reactions to unwashed second-hand clothes. Maybe next time you could try turning on the heater in the car to warm up instead of risking a rash.

U should also try ,think twice thrift stores usually in the estates ,their cloths go from 400 new to 30bob .really nice stuff .we nowerdays don't have the hustle of going to toi or kosh
