Profit does matter when you are making investment decisions...Let me remind you some of the basic ratios on which investors' decisions are relied are Earnings per share and P.E ratio. Most ratios are relied on company profit. If they are increasing their sales but their profit is decreasing it's an alarming sign in the operations of the company. Nobody will invest in such a company. Increasing sales has two purposes. 1)Management wants bonuses 2) Management wants to window-dress their profit in front of investors.
