The only thing that really sucks about this is that if you're part of a development team for a company who uses Shopify, you can't just build custom apps for *your* store. You have to make this Partner account and do all of this other nonsense. It makes no sense why I'd need a partner account just to build apps for *my* store.
Interesting interview. Knowing how much Shopify puts into conversion optimization, it's tough to want to change anything. They have such a good brand now, I think it would be better for most merchants to do nothing and let the checkout be Shopify branded.
Great point. Shopify definitely tries to optimize the checkout for as many merchants as possible. However, there might still be certain features that work exceptionally well with your specific audience, so it would still worth testing. (+ potential business automations etc.) :-)
Such an interesting video, Jan! Thanks for It! Sadly I am not on board with the change and the only change I can see is me recommending small/medium companies staying away from Shopify platform in the future... personally I dont see these businesses been able to hire a specific dev only for checkouts... its not just a superlative jump in difficulty learning to use this awful new checkout... its pretty much a jump on careers... sounds good, but not all business need such level of specialization I think. I hope they revert this eventually. Its too much , too fast, too unnecesarily imo. Thanks for the video , again!
One thing that makes me nervous is that they've frequently switched up how Checkout Extensibility works. It's great to learn and pivot. But when we have a pretty hard deadline to learn new tech and migrate merchants it doesn't fill me with a ton of confidence. IMO that August 2024 deadline should be a soft one. Like how JSON and Liquid templates co-exist. There should be a longer road when such a new type of tech (for developers that are used to the safety net of Liquid) is being introduced.
hello sir Is it really possible for me to enter freemote at a cost of 97 dollars per month? I hope it is true because all my hope is attached to it😢 big heart and all love to you mr jan❤
Hello Ankit, If you still need help with this, you might need to connect with a developer expert. We can definitely help you find one if needed. (Check the link in the description) Best, Joy (Team)
We tried to integrate the Shop app, but Food articles in the shop were declined by the Shop app as category, that is not allowed. Has this been changed or going to be changed? When I see that interview I feel like food merchants are having a growing disadvantage.
I’d need to do a bit more research here; but since food and beverage is a booming industry in e-commerce, I think Shopify will do their best to support merchants. 👍👍
Deleted my comment? Checkout APIs are cool but they arent fully released yet. My company is stuck in limbo. Shopify refuse access to checkout.liquid but wont even give you a release date for Verification API. Not sure whats going but helpful guide Jan!
Never deleted a comment :-) RU-vid holds potentially inappropriate back, might have been a certain keyword or something. Regarding the new features, you might find the roadmap helpful on the main checkout documentation page. (Contained a list of release dates for specific APIs)

yeah that wat i was expecting. Just shoving that Shop Pay down merchants throats, customers actually hate that Shop Pay and prefer to use usual speed checkout options! and here's the problem Shop Pay block them all! i would advise them read up on shopify forums on the issue :)) The only reason they got to that 100m supposed number is by basically deceit, forcing that SP on merchants without them knowing, forcing customers to sign up too, even if merchants took shop pay out of there payments! In there minds all merchant checkouts should come to Shop Pay?! living in a coocoo land. They seriously think people just going to drop apple pay, google pay, and PayPal and magically start using shop pay for no reason?
Hey there, definitely a fair question to ask. Some of the benefits we’ve heard about / seen include - the higher order completion rate - potential website personalization features, even before you the checkout, if a user is recognized - the ability to customize the shop pay checkout … But of course, as you mentioned, adoption also takes time, and some users will definitely prefer to keep using their favorite wallet. As far as I’ve seen Shopify in the past, fair critique and smart questions are always welcome. And I’m sure we’ll hear more about the development as everything progresses. 👍👍
@@CodingWithJan Lets touch on those touted 'higher' conversions Question is what they are actually comparing to? card payments credit card payments or maybe face to face payments of grand mama buying apples. Until they make direct comparisons to paypal apple pay and others that number is meaningless. And far from helping is most likely Harming your shop by blocking other fast payment options. Let me explain lets assume that 100m are done with apple pay cos its way to complicated and would only use shop pay. So how many customers you actually annoy by blocking other fast payment options, you know like rest - apple pay, paypal, amazon pay, google pay. Its billions of annoyed customers. Until Shop Pay stops its shady practices by blocking other fast payment options and lets customers choose option they want by themselves - it will be harming your shop rather then helping you. Once they stop there shady practice and actually draws direct comparisons to other fast payment providers then you can decide.
@@kaseta-y9w all great questions Shopify touches on it in this blog post. www.shopify.com/enterprise/shopify-checkout tl;dr they partnered with a leading global management consulting company, and their independent study showed the power of Shop Pay, Shopify’s accelerated checkout offering. When used, it can lift conversion by as much as 50% compared to guest checkout, outpacing other accelerated checkouts by at least 10%.
Hey Jan, I just watched your video and I must say that it was really informative and well-made. I loved your videos. I was wondering if I could help you edit your videos and also make highly engaging shorts for you?
Hi Jan, thanks for another great video🔥. I am not a developer, but have a shopify website that I tweak with the help of videos like yours. Will this give us more ability to customize our checkout page in the theme editor? Will this affect the Additional Scripts that I added to the Order Status Page section in shopify's backend: Settings > Checkout?
