My older sister Nicole and I are the two little girls in the shopping cart. My mom was shopping with us and a photographer wanted to take our picture. They still have the original newspaper clipping!Lot's of fond memories at this mall.
To me when I moved to Mississauga in 1992 this was the main mall in Brampton. I didn't even know about Bramalea until a few years back. I heard the name but Shoppers World used to be a good mall with a lot of good stores that no longer exist. It's sad what happened to the mall.
Went to Centennial public school in the late 70's and we hung at the mall (and McDonalds of course) all the time on weekends and after school. Lots of memories of that place, from buying cheapie batteries at Radio Shack for our JVC RC-M70 ghetto blasters w Tony Mitchell. Renting movies on Xmas day at Jumbo Video, K mart for Levis, the 80's were pretty innocent and fun back then.
I didn't know Brampton had a Shopper's World, but i grew up in East York Toronto, and remember spending a lot of time at the Shoppers World in the 70's and '80's as a kid with my brothers and mother located near the intersection of Danforth Rd and Victoria Park Ave. Lots of boutique style stores, an Eatons, and even a Zellers with a dine-in restaurant. What you see hanging across the isle at 0:28 are Easter egg art work coloured by local school kids in the area. We'd use crayons and come up with our own designs and the school would submit them to the mall. Prizes were given to the most popular artworks. Fond memories of a great time!
I grew up near SW, I remember when they added the addition for The Bay. I used to play space invaders at the Kmart entrance while my mom shopped, and I still have my Future World (Arcade) membership card. They installed a waterslide over by O'tooles side of the mall. We also snuck in one time and rode our BMX inside before security saw s :) good times, 80's was the best.
These videos are cool. It would be great to look at all these photos for longer, without all the somewhat distracting Ken Burns-style zooming and panning. Are they available online anywhere?
Lol I remember getting lost there as a small child after I hid inside a rack of clothes..Luckily a nice lady found me crying and brought me to the lost and found where my mom picked me up..
I remember when they announced that the mall would be open on Sundays - my brother and I walked over but the whole time I was looking around expecting God to strike me down for sinning (by indulging in commerce on the Lord's day) Lol! A year or so later we found a hundred bucks in the parking lot (we were ecstatic) and went straight to the video game store to buy a Nintendo game (I think we bought "faxanadu") Bramalea was clean, safe, wholesome, and even in some sense, godly. I miss these days.
I remember the kid getting kidnapped from in front of the old sewing store. I was around his age and when my parents told me about that I was frightened.

It is too bad how run down & depressing Shopper's World has become. Other malls from the same era have flourised, Hillcrest, Upper Canada, Sherway but SWB has been on long downward trajectory. I guess people go to Bramelea City Centre now.
