Melbourne is definitely safer and better than Sydney! I'm a masters graduate and lived for 4 years in Melbourne, moved to sydney a year ago and I hate it here in Sydney. after living in both of the cities I felt Melbourne is much more safer, cheap(cost of living is very cheap) and the best city to settle down in aus. Sydney is very expensive, heavily crowded and one of the hottest places(very humid and sultry) in australia. Also, in comparison to Melbourne, Savings are very less in Sydney.
