Well there's different perspectives when buying cars especially the limited ones One is wanting to buy it then enjoy the hell out of it and the other is for the sake of collecting and storing it in the garage, if you've bought it with the intent of using it then you wouldn't care how much money you'll lose.

That's fine if you're on the list to buy new from factory and take advantage of the 200%+ uplift in market value. And a handful of owners do just that, you only need to look at ""il Mostro" the matt green TDF, that will get driven, but even after being driven it will still be worth double what the original owner paid rather than triple if it wasn't driven. If he even wants to sell it, which is unlikely. James hasn't yet reached "The list" as far as Ferrari is concerned, so if he wants to enjoy a TDF he'll have to pay maybe 2 or 3 times list price for the car, then swallow circa £100k per 5,000 miles if he drives it. That's assuming the current asset bubble that we're in doesn't burst and these "modern collector" cars don't drop 50% of their value due to outside market forces. The bottom line is if you're wealthy enough that £750K simply doesn't matter, then go for it. If £750K is a lot of money to you and the thought of the car being potentially worth, £650k or £550k or £450k is not palatable then it's not a viable option. Ultimately it comes down to your own personal financial comfort zone. My prediction, James won't buy one, mainly because he has a canny business mind and as desirable as this car is (and it is very desirable) there is currently far more potential downside than upside. We're at peak market or possibly beyond it as some TDF values have begun to slide and there have been a couple of high profile auction no sales of TDF's lately. Fundamentally all the same reasons he's not driving a Carrera GT.

He owns multiple cars so the miles wont be that big of an issue. He splits the miles over various supercars. Buy it now and e.g. sell it when the 812 arrives

I actually think a normal f12 is still the best value car in the whole entire car market. If the spec is right you can pretty much share the tdf experience and a comfortable gt while spending 1/4 of the money. F12 with buckets, lightweight wheels a edgier road and track alignment on cup 2/pirelli corsa/michellin ps4 and the car will become another experience ..

Supercars of Gotham Aka Bruce Wayne would rather have a tdf than a cgt any day of the week tbh 👀

Oh, I can't imagine... The longer you wait for this the special it will probably become.

To add to this the tdf is obviously a better investment and no doubt the 812 will loose money but probably not as much as the difference between the price of a tdf and the price of a 812.

That's not why you rarely see content on it. It's because they are rare and most people who buy them do it to keep in their garage and don't actually drive them. You see more content of the 488 GTB compared to the 458 Speciale. And how is the F12tdf flawed? You must've experienced it right?

Jonathan Nzita I have experienced it yes. Not from the drivers seat but as a passenger in both road and track. This particular car has over 3000 miles on it. It's understeers terribly when close to the limit and then oversteers when you don't expect it to, the tyres are so wide that on UK roads especially it navigates you into every camber and pothole in site, it looses traction really easily so for getting out of junctions quickly you have a 90% chance of going into an oversteer. The F12 is renowned for being spikey and sometimes terrifying the tdf takes it to the next level, yet should be more stable due to the added aerodynamics (maybe at high speed) but day to day it's certainly not. This car should only be driven on a smooth, hot, dry wide tracks and be very skilled at driving I.e. Race driver level which is probably more of a reason why you never see any content on it, that and the fact that most Ferrari owners don't drive their cars. With the 812, they ironed out all the issues the tdf had making it much easier to live with than even a F12. My friend gets his next year and once it arrives the tdf will be sold.

Jonathan Nzita Possibly yes but from James's experience of his own F12 where he never really drives it and when he does it's violent the tdf just turns all that up a notch. With the weather and the road conditions in the UK it'll probably end up sitting in his garage all the time, not necessarily a bad thing for investment but not the best place for a "drivers car" to be. The 812 takes everything that's great about the tdf and puts it in a more drivable package so when you put it in that perspective you could say the 812 is more of a driver's car as they'll actually be driven.

Komor Uddin I think it's cause he's trading the speciale in for the tdf, if so they'll have to create an estimate price for the Ferrari this can take awhile

Well a year later, he sold the Speciale, cancelled the 720S, bought an F12 tdf & opened a new business.

The 812 will take a shit in value over time. The TDF will hold its value.

troy constable The 812 will hold its value well if demand is stronger than deliveries can catch up with, and if it does end up being the last N/A V12 Ferrari series

troy constable Yes, any special edition Ferrari will hold it's value, my point is that when the special edition of the 812 comes out it will make the TDF slightly less desirable. But the special edition 488 will not hurt the Speciale Aperta due to it most likely being turbo.

speciale aperta is just as much as a tdf.

Imprezive Rex But we never know, the limited edition 812 may be hybrid powered. If that's the case, the F12tdf would possibly, if not surely, be the last limited edition N/A V12 with no aids.
