Congratulations on your pregnancy! It was very sweet and considerate of you to think of this as a potential triggering subject for other women. You often don't see women being considerate of other women on topics of pregnancy and motherhood. So.. thank you for that
Had to pause and compliment you on being able to put that anklet on at this stage of pregnancy! Kudos girl! Being tall must be awesome because my 5'4" self couldn't get near my feet! ;-)
As a long-time subscriber, I am really, really into this dedicated fashion content! I especially appreciate that your fashion content is not about "how to make your body look x way using clothes". Fashion is about so much more than how much our body reflects current beauty standards. Your discussion of fabric, formality, colour, texture, silhouette etc have all been really thought provoking and they help me get dressed in a way that is satisfying. Thank you!
I'm learning to break my very long list of body shaming rules. I don't want my 5 year old granddaughter to learn them. She inspires me to be fearless, because she is always telling me that everyone is fearless, just sometimes you have to try a few times. So glad to see this video now ❤
This truly reinforces your initial purchases and how well you’ve established your aesthetic. You are looking very beautiful btw. I hope you are staying comfortable in the heat.
I recently challenged myself to wear three different outfits that had to incorporate one older unworn piece with something from this season new stuff that I’ve not necessarily worn yet. It was so fun to pair new trends with older staples I’ve not been wearing because I’ve evolved into a little bit more trendy. I’ve just recently had my 62 birthday and I decided to stop dressing too appropriately as I’ve been doing gradually as I’m feeling less vibrant. Well forget it. I’m all about being the vibrant beautiful 62 year old woman I am. I need distractions from my flaws and eye catching outfits that I feel great in. You will know this and your mom might agree that it’s hard to start disappearing from view. People look past you or even through you when you are a woman in our society at certain ages. You seem ageless to me. I’ve just found you and you truly delight me. I love your choice of words often as well. You do not “dumb it down” for we who watch you. Thank you! Great video. You look so lovely and I’m happy for your opportunity to mother. I did not have one. And I do truly appreciate the kind way you forewarned people about seeing you in your pregnant state. That they should be comfortable with watching after your small warning. Really nicely done. You are a kind woman. Best!
Dear hannah. I’m watching a bunch of your video’s right now because you make me feel understood. I am 21 and sometimes struggling with that. I just watched your video in witch you talked about containing multitudes while i was just thinking about being a multipotentialitite. I’m also creative and sensitive and so often feel like so little people get exited about beauty and subtleties the way you do and i do too. I’m so very grateful for your video’s. You are an inspiration and a safe haven❤
Hannah, I love how your videos manage to combine encouraging us to make sensible esthetic choices that honor our creativity and freedom of expression, with a healthy sense of amusement at our (shared) preoccupation with how we dress! You're really teaching this sixty-something woman new ways! Thank you.
I've been replenishing my closet on a budget after several years of no buy and your videos have been so helpful in 1) choosing things I'm excited to wear and 2) not feeling guilty about it because I'm actually doing it mindfully and with planning and purpose. It hasn't all been smooth sailing (i need to come to terms with the fact that Lucy & Yak don't know how to make clothes for my body shape) but I do feel like I'm finally getting somewhere. I think tomorrow will be a shop my closet day!
I absolutely love this! As a recent subscriber who found you due to your fashion content, which is extraordinary by the way, I’m putting my vote in for this to be a series. I wouldn’t be sad about monthly but I won’t lobby too hard if you settled on quarterly… you’re my fashion gal! I much prefer your sense of fashion as personal style/expression over trends. I so appreciate your mindfulness with regard to budget. As an artsy person, particularly as a dancer, I’m especially grateful for your knowledge of fabrics and construction. I’m living for the fantasy of elevated editorial sweaters and fear buying a babaa only to find it’s too small. All that to say, more fashion, please. I have 4 children so I’m available for all “How do I do this with a baby?” questions & direct you to Jacinda (exPM of New Zealand, who brought her baby to parliament & Kathryn Ryan, Canadian comedienne in the UK who goes on chat shows with wee Fenna on her knees… You didn’t ask & certainly take all the downtime you want/need, but I say all that to say that I’d be happy with you wearing the baby in a sling and holding up a garment (B roll can have better shots, maybe Joe could do that) and talking through it. Maybe he can also try to catch you wearing each outfit like a photo journalist “on the go”. You know, Joe’s a wonder!
Pregnancy chat alert: I love that you are wearing your wardrobe while pregnant, you look amazing! Word from the wise (my sister) for all those pregnant ladies out there planning/able to breastfeed... you can totally convert your wardrobe for nursing too, by layering your clothes with a stretchy vest top underneath - for example, if you're wearing pants and a t-shirt with a vest top underneath, simply pull your t-shirt up over your boobs and your vest under your boobs and voila, access!! Works with shirts, button front dresses, etc, too. It saved me so much money and meant i didnt have to wear frumpy feeling nursing clothes 😊
This is an exercise I need to do as I recently retired. I’m trying to look at my wardrobe and see how I can let it “relax”. Hope you’re feeling as well as you look!😊🥂
I love this concept SO much!!! Definitely inspiring me to do the same. Please more videos like this!!! I love the motivation to create a fire look from one’s own closet instead of obsessing over the next new thing. Wow. This is how to “influence” people to be creative with their clothes and silently divert attention from over-consumption. Thank you!
Love to see the wardrobe version of SMS! i wanted to mention i appreciate the editing choice to “repeat footage”. it’s a tiny tiny pet peeve that when people are doing a voice over the b roll won’t always go as long as the VO, and i just really like the choice to keep the b roll going longer so we can keep seeing whatever thing for longer as you talk about it. hope that makes sense! also really happy you found a way to work in the Doen, the pieces are so pretty ♥️ and you’re looking so glowy! ♥️
Hannah, I enjoyed pregnancy dressing as a creative endeavor in the way you describe here - reimagining my wardrobe to fit my changing needs. And it doesn't stop after birth. ☺️ I'm very excited to hear about your thoughts on the balance of aesthetics, consumerism and parenthood! Best of luck with everything.
Yes, I do love her style - but have to say that being (highly) pregnant in the summer makes it easier- pregnancy wardrobe during wintertime is way more difficult...
It's such a simple concept to mix and match what we already own, but actually doing it is a step that can be daunting. Like you mentioned about wearing only a white top with the white trousers - I, too, get these "rules" in my head about my own clothes. Thank you for sharing and inspiring! And thank you for the thoughtful warning at the beginning.
Started watching your channel when I was pregnant in 2021 and your videos helped me to feel like I could still dress for myself and pull myself together a bit more each day. Wishing you and baby (and Joe) a safe delivery!!
These are all lovely outfits. I recently visited with a friend and her three daughters. Unexpectedly, I was on the receiving end of a wonderful "How to style your clothes" session. It was such a fun time. It has given my closet and jewelry box a much needed refresh -- without purchasing a single item!
The last outfit is so good. It really suits you :) And I love that you did a fashion video while pregnant, I bet you will look back on this in a year or so and appreciate it even more!
I absolutely love this video and your focus on how clothes that you've had and will have are fitting your current body rather than this being solely focused on maturity. Just absolutely fabulous!!!!
I love this video! I enjoyed you talking through your thought processes while creating these outfits. Love your kind energy too - the way you end your videos is my favorite❤️
OMG I just started doing this with my closet!! I came to the same realization that there were a handful of items I wasn't wearing. So far it's working!
I hated pregnancy dressing so much, but this video is game changing (9 years too late, although I’m thrilled other mums-to-be will benefit from such thoughtful content). Also, as a fellow former-Dôen obsessive - my love for the brand actually took over my life, and my wardrobe for a couple of years - it was lovely to see how you were able to incorporate your older, more intricate pieces, with your new, more streamlined aesthetic.
Seriously, thank you! I’ve truly struggled with the shirt over a dress/tank/cami style that seems to be in right now. I live in a very warm place so I don’t like to wear extra layers, especially if there’s no actual need besides fashion. I appreciate you putting that into words. And also that you pointed out that it can be used for extra coverage from the sun ☀️ 😊
Congratulations on your pregnancy, Hannah! ❤️ I hadn't tuned in in a while and had no idea. I feel so happy for you! You are radiating in all your outfits. Please keep these shopping your closet videos coming.
That was nice to watch! I really really felt that "blouse-situation". I think maybe through the more or less exact definitions and inspirations that describe a certain aesthetic, we tend to think we have to fulfill a certain aesthetic to fit / to blend in into that aesthetic. So we think if we feel dedicated to a certain aesthetic we have a strict framework to be in. But, we are free to break up those frameworks, and to mix whatever we love together. I was on that streamline-minimal-color-less-aesthetic--boat, too and then i fell in love with an orangebrownred sweatshirt. And i thougt i couldnt buy it, because it doesnt fit into that aesthetic and i couldnt mix that piece in. But. I bought it and i wear it a lot and it really broke open that strict framework my brain thought i ought have to stay in. Now that i freed myself it is easier for me to reintegrate certain pieces that i loved forever and kept in ge back of my closet because they didnt fit into that allwhitenudeblacksimpleminimal aesthetic. ( I hope that my point is understandable, i am german and its sometimes difficult to express my thoughts in english 😊)
aaaaaaa this is the video I've been waiting for!!!!!!!! For the past year I fully and only enjoy in monotone outfits but I slowly began to sense some kind of weirdness (besides it being maybe too formal/fashion lol) and it turns out exactly as you said being FLAT. That's next level Hannah XD
Your fashion vidoes are the best I've seen. I love the thoughtful way you describe the decisions you make and how they work with your current style, it's so refreshing and best of all it's not prescriptive like so many others are. Thank you!!!
Nice outfits, Hannah! I'm glad you can incorporate beautiful prints into your minimalist esthetics. The blouse outfit reminded me of Italian actresses, such as Sophia Loren or Anna Magnani, in Neorealist films😂
Hannah thank you so much for showcasing Etsy shops! I just got my order from The Purana Bazaar, and am so pleased (especially by how little it cost to get something one-of-a-kind)!
Because of your fashion videos, I’ve been inspired to look at my closet more analytically as well as creatively and actually start composing looks that make me feel good. Thank you for this content! Especially bc I have a closet full of clothes of different sizes, I need to look at different ways to wear and style old things newly so as not to overbuy ❤
I started a new job and need a slightly more elevated work look so I also shopped my closet. Turns out I have way more outfit options than I ever realized.
well I bet your having a ball restyling and elevating your closet wardrobe. in 2024 I started the same thing on my channel.so glad I kept almost ALL of my vintage clothes.changed up from summer to winter :) new subby Connie
Absolutly loved this including the tweaking your style idear as such … can get very focused myself and have changed styles a lot over the years. Often as my body and environment has changed as well as a new part in my life.
I did the thing of moving all my winter clothes into storage. I put them in a closet in my guest bedroom. The weight on the hanging bar was so great the bar collapsed! So now my winter clothes are back in my closet and I'm kind of living? We've had a break from 90 degree heat so I can actually do a little layering....I'm so impressed you can get an ankle bracelet on when you are pregnant in the summer. That is a flex.
The "banishing" system Hannah mentioned in a previous video has been so helpful. I've been ill lately and all I want to wear is flowy clothing that is entirely impractical to my current state: I think it's time to banish those items so that comfortable clothes that don't get in my way can shine.
On one note, I'm so excited for you and Joe. You have such a sweet and nurturing nature with your followers and I hope you guys continue to have a safe and healthy pregnancy! On the other, I'm moving soon so I really appreciate the videos on addressing your older wears, definitely will be going through your past declutter videos as well. Time to reckon with my beautiful things again
That’s what I love about a minimalist capsule. It forces me back into putting on things I pass over. That clarifies how I feel about it. Sometimes it’s season in my life is over but more often I fall back in love.
Such a lovely idea!! Gotta try it myself. And I‘d like to point out, that your disclaimer that we‘ll see you pregnant in the b roll is so so thoughtful! I think that’s a real nice disclaimer for someone who is a bit sensitive when it comes to pregnancy. Such little details make me love your channel even more! Have a nice day & greetings from Germany 🩵☺️
Hi Hannah, you are so beautiful and just glow when you talk about something you’re so passionate about. I remember when you tried for the first time the minimalist way of dressing and something you said about stripes not being for you, when looking through Emma Hill’s looks. Maybe florals are your stripes 🌼
I think many of us can relate to your feeling of stepping out of one's comfort zone with a piece that "doesn't fit" one's current aesthetic. but looking at your outfit with the blouse from the outside, it looks so very Hannah (TM) in the best way possible. this just goes to show that if we feel good in an outfit, it suits us and our style. we don't need to put labels on it.
I would love a video about maternity fashion that deals with the topic of how the possible need to buy new (larger) clothes can be combined with thoughtful consumption. You have the same problem with weight fluctuations in general, you can decide not to buy anything, but if nothing fits anymore, you have no other chance than to buy new clothes and I think at this point it's easy to fall into overconsumption.
9:06 I really like what you said here about "disrupting the narrative" around a particular garment. I think the same can be said about anything in a wardrobe or even around the house. Thanks again for a thought-provoking and actionable video (and congrats on the pregnancy!)
My size has changed a lot during pregnancy and didn't happen to come back to my job (thank you for not letting me know till 2 weeks before my supposed return guys) so my closet is full of stuff that doesn't fit, can't use to breastfeed or is just not my style anymore. Will try this but I'm planning on during a serious purge of my closet once I'm working again
Fun video :) I’m inspired by your style and commitment to loving the pieces you own. I’m excited to share your pregnancy fashion with women in my life who are going to be pregnant!
As we're in summer I completely ignored my summer dresses! I wore one my mother recently gave me and it rekindled my love for my dresses. I'm currently sick with covid but when I return to work you bet I'm going to be rocking them the remainder of the season! Thank you as always with your careful consideration. Since I'm home I'm focusing on anything but spending and this is a lovely reminder to focus on all the lovely things I do have in my closet. Sending you love and hoping you're doing okay in the heat!
I would love to hear you talk more about your philosophy (or philosophies) about when to keep and when to let go of pieces in your wardrobe. I love that this video makes me think more deeply about how "tired" pieces that I have been thinking of as no longer fitting with my style might actually be an opportunity to expand and further develop my style, just by styling old pieces in new ways. But, also, sometimes hanging on to old pieces feels very fraught, and like it might be getting in the way of presenting your most authentic self through your clothes. I feel like you would have something very interesting to say about criterion and ideologies for closet changeover/changing style!
Im totally not a minimalist (in dress sense, decor or makeup really) but i always like looking at the very intentional decisions of a minimal person. I just love all the colours and textures and patterns sp its nice to see a minimal style with some colour and texture rather than just plain neutrals
I loved this so much Hannah! I am definitively inspired to so this with my own clothes. I have so many beautiful pieces that I never wear, because like you said, I find some excuse or reason not to. And I don’t question those excuses. But I’m now inspired to reach out of my comfort zone. Thank you!
It’s good to do this with our clothing a few times a year. I’m shopping my closet for all the natural fibers because I live in Texas & it’s triple digits rn. I won’t be adding anything unless it’s cotton & doesn’t touch my body 😜. Your last outfit was the standout. The other 2 were good.
Love all your hidden pieces! I have a huge wardrobe. I often fall back in love with older pieces, too. Hence the reason why I hold onto a huge wardrobe in the first place. I have my own vintage clothing shop at home lol
I’ve worn through most of not all of my „usual“ summer trousers I wear and had to get creative with my wardrobe as well. Thankfully I don’t have to be in an office setting right now or I would be totally lost. This felt really inspiring and makes me want to dive deeper into my closet to see if I can find more wearable pieces. Thanks for sharing Hannah! 💌
I really enjoy Shop my Closet videos. This was especially enjoyable as you shared your process in your inimitable way. I stopped buying new color cosmetics about a year ago as I am satisfied with my curated collection and now it’s replacements only. I have embarked on a No Buy July for clothing and accessories as I have an abundance of beautiful things and it is a pleasure to delve into them and find new ways to put outfits together. Thank you for your continued inspiration.
I have a couple product suggestions that I would love to see you try! I feel they might really fit your preferences: White Foundation / Mix-In: -------------- - Sunset Cosmetics Colourful Foundation in ‘white’: these have the texture of a regular foundation, but are pigmented and come in a variety of unique colors! Made for cosplay, drag, theater, alt makeup, etc. - L.A. Girl PRO.color Foundation Mixing Pigment: this one is a matte-leaning formulation, and less pigmented than the one above. I have been using their blue and white to color-adjust for my desaturated medium skin tone (works well with products that oxidize) YesStyle Desaturated / Brown Lip Products: ----------------------- - lilybyred Smiley Lip Blending Stick in ‘#03 Be Happy with Me’: a light taupe lip crayon meant to be used to ‘contour’ the lips (Korean contour tends to be a lot cooler-toned and grey than western ones), or for people with lip line pigmentation - peripera Ink Mood Glowy Tint in ‘#11 Brown Heaven’: sheer glowy medium brown lip tint - peripera Ink Mood Matte Stick in ‘#12 Hip Brown’: a light brown blurring lipstick - peripera Ink Velvet Intense Stick in ‘#10 Day Taupe’: a slightly sheer purple-ish light taupe lipstick - in general, for Asian beauty, keywords for destaturated tones are “mute” “moody” “hip” “shading” “taupe” “vintage” “MLBB” “calm” and looking at fall and winter shade releases. Some other words that might help are “tea” “grain” or “nut” themed. Be aware of “brown” or “beige” since often these are more on the orange side or are terracotta. Neutral Brown Eyeshadow: -------------- - Sephora collection Colourful eyeshadow in ‘08 Shock Choc’: medium neural brown base with a taupe metallic shift - I wonder if it would be similar to the chantecaille elephant shadow? It comes highly recommend from Amanda Z’s channel! - Korean ‘Shading’ Eyeshadows: Korean contour products are often much more neutral and even grey compared to western counterparts. Contouring overlaps into many categories, such as blush products, lip products, and eye products. There is a wide selection of neutral-leaning powders that can be used on the eye in k-beauty!
Oh my God! You're so caring with your subscribers... I never think someone would think that pregnancy can be a problematic issuie. For me is difficult because I can't get pregnant and I decided not to be a mother. I am recovering from my greave. More and more I can be happy for the pregnont person and not being sorry for myself, but is a process... I am very happy for you and also very happy because you decide not to transform this channel in a Motherhood channel. Take care
I discovered your channel a couple of days ago and have been binge watching your fashion/clothing videos ever since. Your voice and intonation are lovely, and you have the best detailed content ❤
I love these kinds of videos. It reminds me to wear and use what I have with purpose, even though my closet have way more pieces than your or my make up collection being bigger. I’m constantly rotating eyeshadow palettes to match what I’m wearing. Also, I’m a previous video of yours, you introduce a silhouette that open my eyes to expand the use of my closet: my fav piece of clothing, a long flowery skirt with a graphic tee. Now I can use these pieces not only on dressy ocasiona, I can dress them down for every day use. How freeing! Thank you Hannah, all your outfits were great.😊
A massive necklace with that first kaftan outfit would look great. My best friend has that as one of her regular looks and it's so bold and absolute fire 🔥
