This is one of my favorite instructional videos, swim jigs & shore fishing, awesone!!! Thanks Dave, next time u in Michigan, come to Detroit, give me a hollar!
Thanks. Great show and your camera guys do a fantastic job. As a mostly shore fisherman I especially love to see you guys try to do what I do most of the time. Of course I'm on public pressured water not private ponds. Cracked me up seeing all that equipment you were lugging around. But believe me I know how hard it is to pare down. I limit myself to two spinning rods and a fanny pack of tackle. And as you pointed out, from shore you're only going to be fishing skinny water for the most part. I find that a few top water baits, a few swimming baits, and more than a few fineness baits will take care of whatever they're in the mood to eat. Finesse baits are key to pressured ponds. And the worm (it's hard to find one that wont work) and plastic minnow rule, with the craw being key in certain conditions. Match the hatch with the Keitech Easy Shiner, Lunkerhunt Bento Minnow, or the Lunker City Slug-Go and you will catch fish. And for big bass the Mattlures Ultimate Bluegill Series Swimbait along with the Jackall Giron will draw the lunkers out. Huddleston has a new gill bait that I have on order and it promises to be another of their great big fish baits like their trout and weedless grass minnows. So many great baits and so little time. LOL Tight lines and thanks for the great shows. Watching fishing porn is all us northern Jersey fishermen can do till the thaw, so you'er providing and invaluable service. Thanks again.
Well if you think about it, they probably fished the private pond(if it is in the first place) to avoid paparazzi. Do you know how many people would recognize him if he was fishing a public pond?
Love the video! However, I wanted to point out that holding a bass almost horizontal by the jaw is very harmful for the fish. It can dislocate, tear, and break the joints and ligaments leading to the fish being unable to feed... There has been a lot of anecdotal study on the handling of bass, as well as a few academic studies and while the data is still thin, it is agreed that bass need to be supported by their lower jaw and held vertically (only horizontally if you support their body.) You reach a lot of people and thus you influence how other (younger) anglers treat these fish. This isn't a criticism, just a respectful request to lead by example. Thanks for the vids!
daniel gomes yeah, like 50lb main with a 20lb leader would be fine. I have 2 spools for different situations. 1 full braid and 1 full flourocarbon. 20lb flouro on 1 and 50lb braid on the other
that pond looks similar to the ones I fish, but I have a problem with any kind of jig or texas rig, because of all the algae or whatever that slimey green stuff is, any advice, I would appreciate it
I see a lot of people hating on you for fishing a private pond which is most likely stocked? I don't get it. The advice you are giving is good advice. Cast out to the appropriate depths along the shore line instead of straight out, find what the fish want, follow their hints. That's just good shore fishing advice. Who cares where you're fishing? You couldn't have a good video if you weren't catching any fish.
