I believe you mentioned this was your first trip, so welcome to Sea cliff Beach. Here we got bright daylight conditions during a low incoming tide and its December. That's some brutally tough conditions and in addition your working a open flats spot vs a drop hole. . This is why there is a load of weeds and debris which is being pushed in on the tide. Try scouting the deeper holes along the beach and drop off zones which would at least have a few perch holding in them Lure wise try running a Duo lock to the lure vs a direct tie. The Duo-lock allows you to change lures quickly and more importantly allows lure such as the Calissa,Lucky craft, Daiwa SP minnow ETC to run more natural with a better wiggle. These hard bait lures for perch will work but would suggest having a smaller perch rod set up with a 110 flash minnow and then a heavier rod to work the bigger striped bass that Sea cliff beach is known for. For Surf fishing that Penn Fierce reel is not the greatest reel, the Fierce ll has few seals, the Fierce lll is better, The Penn Battle is affordable and a Penn Slammer III is the one you want if you plan to fish the surf on a regular basis, other wise the battle is a good option for the money for the occasional angler. Also noticed your reel was low on line and was causing it to slap on the rods guides which kills casting distance. Yah thats a lot of info al at once but after a 5 hour drive you deserve to take some fish home for the effort. The bass off beach #2 was a small Pajaro or Salinas River Hybrid as indicated by the broken lines. True stripers have solid lines with no breaks and t end to have deeper blue and purple colors. Gotta come back when the anchovies hit the beach during late spring to summer. This is when we get into serious striped bass like 30-40lbers
Wow man! thanks for taking the time to write that. I'm nowhere near an expert and really do appreciate info like this. Definitely gonna look into all of it, thanks jim bo!
@@whatsupclimber I live two blocks up the hill from Sea cliff with my home facing the beach . If you plan on fishing Sea cliff, you might consider parking in the Rio Del Mar parking lot outside the state park itself which would give you early morning access to Sea cliff beach. Sea cliff does not open until 8 am daily and the morning bite is usually from 6-9 am. The Rio Del mar spots fill fast on weekends and during our good fishing months so come early early to secure a spot.
Right now the hot bite for stripers is in San Francisco with some nice size halibut coming from several spots throughout the S.F bay. Did a trip to Baker beach and got limits on stripers plus a 25 inch halibut floating tray bait anchovies on a dead man rig set up. Sea-cliff wise nice barred Surf perch but the water is still in winter mode.
As if I couldn't think there could be a better video than the first video you had. BUT MAN THIS IS THE LIZNET ON EARTH. These are great tutorials and great! I love the content and I love the teaching and the walkthrough, its almost like watching a video game of legend of zelda and seeing young link doing the backflip method to run through levels easier. Great video and can't wait for the next one!
