Great review, I love that you do kind of a fast and then a longer one. And all your points were well made and understandable. I also really like the idea of bringing this into a classroom. I would have loved that as a kid! Great work, Zilla, can‘t wait to see what you come up with next

I would have been all over this sort of thing as a student, for sure! If only for the variety's sake, yes. ~ I'm leaning towards U-boats next, but not 100% sure yet. I also want to start some sort of new digital game as well, just not sure what. ~ Thanks for stopping in!

Thanks, Custard! We should get together for a game at some point! :) There is a VASSAL mod we can play. :)

Regarding the luck factor, I think the word "swingy" is most appropriate here, simply because of the dice mechanics. I don't mind it much, but I agree it can become frustrating to roll all 6s then suddenly all 1s. It just isn't particularly tailored by the designer, unlike say, a chart. And I'm not sure if you played any of GMTs Card Driven Games (or CDGs) before, but this really reminded me of those, and maybe the COIN series as well, although those are like, vastly more complicated and in-depth; maybe the game W1815 more closely resembles it. Anyway, this is an interesting and seemingly fun introductory wargame for sure. It has baked-in rules (cards) that add chrome without extra overhead, and the design, despite being a bit "luck oriented", still favors those who can play their hand well; so it's not exactly a drawback, but rather a caveat, as you stated. Anyway, I've rambled enough, this is another cracking review! Can't wait what you'll play next. 😃

Thanks, Hex, you make some great points. I think there's been a lot of good thought into the design of this, and yes, swingy might be a good term for it. But having played it a number of times, I think it's a lot less swingy than I'd have thought. The cards and mechanics usually give the player ways to respond to some tricky rolls. :)

Thanks Peter! I think this will earn a permanent spot on my "gateway wargames" and is great for some solid thinking challenges in a light ruleset and game length. Really nice execution on an idea, for sure. Thanks for stopping in!

@@ZillaBlitz You are welcome 😊 Is there any chance, you one day will review Tarawa 1943 from Worthington? I’m hoping.
