Let's practice some performance maneuvers here at my home airport Minden NV!
Super important to practice these techniques in a safe environment before performing them for real. Already can't wait to take the Debi to some shorter back country airports and land in the dirt.
Hope you all enjoy, and if you're looking for landing techniques in the Debonair/Bonanza, that this may help.

what you should be practicing is "go-arounds" from full flap configuration. Full flap approach, flare for landing, execute a go-around. That is where most pilots kill themselves. Any pilot can take off at 70K and climb at 75k. Practice something that will save your life.
@FlywithHayley
@FlywithHayley Месяц назад
I have done go arounds in the Debonair- just haven’t filmed it yet. You can very much hurt yourself doing a soft field or short field incorrectly. All of it is important to practice and stay proficient!

@@FlywithHayley yep. enjoy your channel. One of the better ones. It was such a tragedy to learn of TNFlygirl's accident. Still don't understand how that happened. I also enjoy Stevie Triesenberg and FlywithKay. You three are great on pilot proficiencies.

Yeah pretty sure she's a CFI and is well aware of how most accidents occur, it's not from go arounds. Also not sure if you meant to say go around procedure FROM full flap configuration. Can't think of any small aircraft take off procedures that tell you to use full flaps for take off or go around, quite the opposite, you have to refer to the planes AFM or POH, usually if you're at 30 degrees and that's full flaps take 10 out after full power. All of these techniques she demonstrated are useful and it's up to the pilot to stay proficient in all aspects. Just because you completed a check ride doesn't mean you never practice this stuff again. Maybe find a good CFI and take some lessons if you want to learn how to fly lol 😅🤣😆

Could you elaborate on "this is where most pilots kill themselves?"

I’m so happy that you used flaps 10! It makes all the difference for short, soft field and combination of high DA takeoffs. I would have rotated at 80-85, and climbed at about 100. You need the wing to fly, and not linger in ground effect. Dave, v tail Bonanza owner, having 28,000 hours.

Where's your trim normally on your debonair when you land? You mentioned "it's a bit heavy" for one of the approaches. A lot of high performance airplanes you land you land with a lot of nose up trim (pa32, m20, pa24, c182, etc) a real good eye opening maneuver is doing a go around in landing trim setup and being ready for the pitch up moment and a surprising amount of fwd yoke pressure... Especially juggling flaps, gear, prop, radios. That's always good practice!

I go light for short fields. I try to get it down to just the fuel I need plus reserve. Not all dirt strips are soft. For short hard dirt strips I like to get my nose gear on the ground pretty quick for steering, and so I'm ready to brake if needed. I don't worry if I have 1200' or more of runway at or below 3000' altitude. It gets trickier from there, needs homework.

Hayley, you handle that Beech like a boss, but why take it off road? That's like taking a vintage corvette 4 wheeling, no bueno. Get a bush plane, Kitfox, Piper Cub or Cessna 185 with bush tires and go off airport exploring. Your Debonair is much to nice to get dirty. Thanks for the practice though, I miss flying😢

Thankyou!! Oh eventually I’m sure I will get a bush plane- for now I wanted a cross country traveler and there are too many good dirt strips to land around Nevada to pass up

Hayley, how would you compare short field and soft field performance of your plane compared to the Diamond aircrafts you ferry from Canada? You have about the most experience of anybody comparing different aircraft and their quirks. If you say that you are not at liberty to give your opinion due to your contract with Diamond, I can respect that, and everybody else should also!!Thank you for sharing this with us!!

Nice video, I look forward to seeing the soft field landings. The inside of Debbie is immaculate BTW! My new-to-me baby Beech is not bad at all, but I'd love to have the interior redone. A GFC500 is far more practical though! 😆

Hi Hayley, You have a great plane and airfield to use. I'm envious! I used to enjoy coming in on finals with full flaps, lots of power, nose up as far as possible, bringing the speed right back. It was a bit noisy with stall warnings but amazing how slow I could approach in a 152.
