Thank very much for your video about short swing. I was having back problems, and pain. As a senior golfer that began playing golf at age 50, I was trying to perform full back swing in order to get more distance. But since I watch your video I practice my new short back swing at home, and I realized that it can be easily perform so I will enjoy a lot more years of playing golf without hurting my body.
@@luisportelar that’s exactly the goal! Enjoy and keep at it:) we have lots of other lessons for all your game on the channel and also the website too.
@@luisportelar I'm an old who HAD back problems. Try a bit of easy yoga, it really works to loosen and stretch the back and build up muscle around the spine. 👍
As a rule I never, ever compliment online swing coaches…well, until today. I’ve been playing about 30 years, and I tried this technique today. It works throughout the bag (wedges, min-irons, hybrids, and driver). You actually know what you are doing, and I thank you sincerely. I have subscribed to your channel. Thanks again.
Well I am honored and appreciate you breaking the rule :) Really happy to hear what results and good you felt already with this approach the free flowing swinging. Also hope we have other lessons on the channel as well as our site to help you. Keep at it !
I'm 72 and hitting the ball better than ever in 30 yrs. Golfers on range trying to smash the ball don't get it as far or straight as me with my effortless short backswing, all thanks to you. What a brilliant teacher. 👍👍
I have a herniated disc and have lost a lot of flexibility in my swing. After watching your video, I went to the range and hit a bucket. I have added 20% to my distance just from your tips. Thanks! Look forward to my next round,
George Knudson, Moe Norman; two of the best ball strikers ever: simple swings and short backswings. Enough said! I find one of the most destructive tips teachers give today is to take a big shoulder turn. Good job here!
This technique is amazing! Am Turning 87 next month.this is an an easy repeatable swing that’s has improved my distance, consistency and more importantly my enjoyment of the game. Thank you !!!!!
I come back to this excellent tutorial every now and then as a reminder ! Been Playing the best golf of my life now for 2 months using this technique. As a mid to high handicapper shooting on average 95 -100, last few rounds 87, 87, 92, 93 and last weekend 85……….. slowly but surely focussing on less a aggressive swing, plotting shots through each hole and visualising every shot ! Fantastic coaching , it just works 👏🏽
Many thanks Alex- I’ve just found this lesson and it resonates so well- I’m getting a bit stiff now but I reckon this will get me swinging much less awkwardly. Simple Golf - it’s a 7 year learning process I’m told but thanks to you I’m getting there !
Before your instructions on straightening my arms and lifting my left heel I didn’t understand the need to perform the basics you have explained. Now even without a club in my hands I can feel for the power generated by lifting my left heel.

Thank you for this. I'm one of those who can take a full backswing but then takes a short swing when hitting the ball. For years I've tried to change it and it's taken the enjoyment out of it.
I have been trying to shorten the backswing, but not like this. I am trying to push/extend my arms back, away from target, instead of up behind my back. It helps keep my left arm straight and flattens my (normally steep) swing. Seems to help ☝🏻 It’s amazing how much power Tony Finau gets from his short swing; so it CAN be done!
Great instruction. Many video’s have instruction with way too much chatter and not enough slow motion or repeating demonstration. This is great. I am a beginner golfer and I found this video very helpful.
This is very good thank you. Somehow I got to this shortening regime myself last year and my golf, distances and accuracy improved dramatically. But I didn't see any coaches advocating this method. Since then I have tried more to lengthen my swing- always wanting more!!! and the accuracy and consistency went down hill. So it's back to the range again to get those short swing basics engrained. Especially now I have your lesson to turn to. Many thanks.
If I try anything past a half swing, it will cause me to top/fat/miss the ball. So I’m m glad to see this video. I find it fascinating how your effortless swing at 12.55 sends it further than I can hit a PW with best effort 😟 I’ve only been playing a few months and I’ve found your videos the best to follow. I do believe though that I’m just never going to get any good distances. My 6 iron maxes out at about 130 - 140. I’ve tried the suggestions in your videos. I do weight shift and have light wrists etc. if I can just hit the ball more than 50% of the time, I’ll settle for that. Low expectations, but that’s about being realistic I think. Again, thanks for the videos they help.
I’ve given up on golf ⛳️ two times in my life. The last time I left the game I became a runner and ran fourteen marathons and thirty scored half marathons. The pandemic has been good for me. I’ve written extensively about the golf swing. So now I will never again give up on golf. I was missing the cornerstone of the swing that you explained. The straightening of the arms on the backswing and follow through.
I really enjoy your videos. I am 63 years old, started playing golf at age 30. I have played very little for the last two years. Ready to get back to my favorite game. This video was exactly on point with the help I need with my iron game. Thank you so much!
This swing is so easy to do, and its more consistent, more balls on the green, just go down a club eg 150 yards i usually hit an 8iron with a full swing, and miss the green left or right, but using this short swing with a 7 iron, i am peppering the flag and not exerting myself to much, and its so satisfying
Great instructions for me. I had a few injuries to my back and shoulders. After watching your video, I feel like maybe I will able to play again. Thank you so much for your motivation and instructions.
Great help , I have always thought I should have a full back swing , I am 63 now so I can,t do a full swing , but I still hit the ball well with a shorter back swing , I always try to get my chin on my shoulder which helps me control it !
This is fantastic information I love it, the only thing I don't like is the noises that your on-screen comments make when they appear ... their way too loud startling in fact... Keep up the great work I'm learning a lot. 👍
Hi Alex - was always trying to get as much shoulder turn as possible given the huge emphasis on gargantuan turns out there. After a 34 year military career, my joints just don’t move in my 60’s as they did in my teens. This is manna from heaven. Do you ever analyze Tony Finau , John Rahm or others who compete and win at the highest levels without a huge turn. Thank you for all you do!
I'm stocky with short arms..always have played better after hitting full chip shots hard as I can before a round...reminded to start doing this again. Thanks Dennis in Vancouver
More than welcome. Have a video coming soon on applying the breaks at impact. Keep at it sir. I lived in Vsncouver for a few months a long time ago. No golf playing really though in that time
@@TheArtofSimpleGolf Vancouver has a plethora of gorgeous courses...west coast marine climate bent grass greens. Golf heaven..climate like southern England...my grandfather from Cotswolds..Dad born Achlyness Highlands..highlander stocky build..scratch golfer... Dennis my son looks like your twin! Cheers
Ben Hogan referred to forward swing drill bringing right elbow down into right side at same time as your weight transfers to your left heel .Raising left heel presets this drill as you have described.
One of the best video that I've seen , thank you so much for your Short Backswing lesson , you make it looks so simple and easy for a very slow senior beginner golfer like me 👍, I subscribed right away and waiting many more video from you. Thanks again ! From BC Canada.
You're very welcome! Actually a brand new one touching on similar topic but enabling the right moves went live today. P.S I lived in Vancouver for a while about 10 ish years ago. Wonderful place.
great lesson as always, a lot to take on board in one go so will focus on it in stages. need to get the feel as once on golf course it all goes out the ****** window
fantastic video , i have struggled with width in my backswing for yrs due my front arm bending to much when it gets past parallel on the backswing My pro is working with me to develop a 3/4 swing as standard , your video really has nailed it for me .Thanks
That’s great for the striking! We have a few on tempo. It’s often the way you start the swing so try doing that with momentum . Also the 1,2,3 swing video a couple of weeks ago may help
Great and let us know how goes on the course. Sometimes change takes a little while to trust. You might like the new series theartofsimplegolf.club/short-swing-maximizer/
Hi,gut a Matt and started chipping up to 20 yards,in the binging it looked like a joke, today it’s fun ,short game is about learning ,that is good.2nd :”what you can not do slow ,you will never do fast”slow in-front off a Mirror ,we can always speed up later.thank you
Hi Alex in the PUSH >PULL swing. On the downswing you pull with your right which is your dominant hand. My question is how much pressure should your right hand be
67 year old senior here....I started doing something like this. I am using a half swing where my right arm stay completely connected to my body. I am using my body to turn back, wrist cocked, and using my body to tune through. Very, very consistent
Whatever we can do to help the golf swing stand the test of time and still perform is good. Just also note how much you resist or open the hips on backswing. Less resistance the better as a rule with back pain
@@TheArtofSimpleGolf I tend to straighten my trail leg a little (Molinari) which helps my hips to turn. Thanks so much for reply. Really resonate with your videos!
Wow does this take the complexity out of the swing! I struggle with completing that shoulder turn correctly but this clearly shows me what I need to do!
Love the channel, some great tips and down to earth advice. One thing all golfers could benefit from is Pilates, an hour a week over a few months will make a massive difference to your golf and overall condition.
I am a beginner and I love your methodology of teaching. I am a tennis player so I do understand the concept of weight shift, contact and follow through. I am however not clear about the angle of the plane of the golf club in relation to your body. Do you understand my question? Do you think you can somehow give a diagrammatic aerial view of the path of the club prior to contact?
Great Video. Just wondering what distances you get compared to a full swing. From a seniors swing for example. Love your "simple" style of presentation.
I would like to see you hit a driver, 3 wood and long irons with this short swing... it isbhelping me to have solid contact by focusing on impact and a repeatable swing
Tried it, for the most part I was able to do what you’re doing, only my (i’m lefty) left wrist is folding, unlike yours which is straight on the finish.
Cool! I've been working on the short move. So much easier on the body! Short swingers can get serious free power from very soft wrists in the transition and no down pull with the arms. Think low and wide on the takeaway and let then let it float up while you shift the weight to the left heel, turn through and Boom! If you get to the left and don't tighten up the arms you'll flush it.
Well said and solid feedback. It is important to have flow still to create natural whip. Keep progressing and enjoy the journey! Hooe other lessons on here and on the site will help too
I have a small backswing and I can still hit it relatively far for my age. You just need to put a little bit more power into your shot but it really helps you.
2 questions. Do you have a drill for a beginner to work on a consistent low point with this short swing? How do you get a 3/4 or 1/2 shot when you are taking such a small swing already?
These… ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AdgS2KgDdv0.html and we also have a total program called the short swing maximizer too ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-R34tLstMbAY.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-svZTsXdw7NY.html
OK.... swing thought number 67 and my backswing has not started. I get it. If you watch another lesson lift your heel up (back foot) to start the backswing. Is it OK if I just quit golf :)
