great job- tense, sadly satisfying ending and great end scrolls. . . . Now Joe would you ever consider doing a short thing on the 7 artisan cine lenses and maybe compare theme to the Meikes. . .

The lighting is good, but there's something missing, that I can't put my finger on. But the acting???? The acting is fantastic!!!

@@Humcrush really nice original production, kept me thinking too, as for lenses thanks for the info, going to sell my meike cine 35mm and buy the 50mm to pair with 16, 25, as you've recommended before, cheers man

Die you use any filtration on this piece or is it the Meikes clean look?
@Humcrush
@Humcrush 2 года назад
No filtration in front of the lenses, but I did do some post work in Resolve to knock back the sharpness and bring in a bit of diffusion and bloom. The combination of the Sony A-1 with a modern lens is really too sharp for a "cinematic" look.

@@pathtooptimalhealth I think that's really just a factor of the lighting changing throughout the day.

Looks nice and the acting was phenomenal (though the initial dialogue felt a bit unnatural). The cinematography technically looked good but it was so meaningless, felt like it wasn’t telling us anything except for blatantly obvious things. Like the rack focus felt too deliberate for something that doesn’t work there in that instance) and that ending credit sequence… cool but it feels super out of place and egotistical.

I don’t want to come off as rude, but I’ve noticed that throughout your work you seem to like cutting a bit too much. What is the point of showing the same stuff at slightly different angles like at 0:38, 1:32, 1:34? Wouldn’t those shots and the one at 2:29 be a bit stronger if you stayed on those a lot longer? This editing style reminds me of American tv shows, not movies. To me it feels a bit out of place in something that’s supposed to be a ‘film’, even if it is a short. You could argue that this is supposed to be a pretty nervous and tense scene between these two people, but since the angles are too similar, it just doesn’t work for me.
@Humcrush
@Humcrush 2 года назад
Hey Oleg, thanks for watching! I'd like to say that there is some intentionality to the shot duration - like catering to short attention spans on RU-vid - but the truth is I simply cut when it feels good to me Back in 2010 the average shot duration in a Hollywood movie was only 2.5 seconds, and I suspect that length has probably shortened since then. Source: www.wired.com/2014/09/cinema-is-evolving/ All that said, I probably do cut too often, and it is probably at least partially due to a lack of confidence in my directing and not wanting to be "boring". I intentionally left more breathing room in this film, but perhaps I could have left more. Something I will consider next time.

I disagree. When one is in an extreme emotional state, it can feel like that...like one is unsure where one is standing or later on, trying to remember how it went down, one sees it from all kinds of different angles. I liked it.
