BRO, I CHANGED MY LIFE! BEEN THINKIN THERE HAS TO BE A BETTER WAY. ESPECIALLY out of the sand and the weight forward chip. My daughter will be so happy to hear this too! Thank you 1,000 times!! 👌👊💪

Having watched a PGA event in person this year, I can promise you every professional I saw hitting a chip had their weight dramatically forward. I was actually surprised how exaggerated it was in person. The amount of shaft lean depended on how high they wanted to flight the chip.

Yeah these aren’t all perfect. You’ll notice his feet are way closer together than most pros too. He’s conflating weight forward with handle forward and steep stab at the ball, which you definitely don’t want.

The old way works with many pros still nowadays because they are super precise and skilled with their hands. The new way is targeted to us amateurs that need a bigger margin on these kind of shots..

Also many pros have been playing golf since they were kids and taught the "old ways". They've just been doing the old ways since day 1 and probably have no reason to change since they are so good at it.

I don't think calling the old methods "myths" when some of the greatest players used those methods consistently, it's just the wrong word to use. IMO golf instruction is subjective and just because something is considered modern teaching doesn't mean it will work for you. I bought Phil's hinge and hold method, at the time it was the modern method. In the end it simple didn't work for me consistently but Phil is one of the greatest short game artist of all time. I recently found Dan Grieve's short game method and it really improved my game. It's totally different then Phil's with multiple releases yet I'm sure many people swear by Phil's teaching. My point is why call the "old" method myths? Look at Jack, Seve, Gary Player, Lee Trevino, Phil etc. etc. how can you argue with their success with their style of short games? I'm not disagreeing with your method just feel you're insulting some of the greatest champions in golf believing this is the end all of short game methods.

Yeah its about the clickbait ..not that i necessarily think this type of clickbait is bad ,hes working the old myth buster ethos that originated from a show that many loved . Suppose if one were to miss that connection it would seem worse…though he did claim odds improvement of epic proportion when using the “ modern” technique. So I don’t know lol ….i take it as :if what youre doing now isnt working great try this
@vicpnut1
@vicpnut1 6 месяцев назад
Also when my chipping is not working ,i know i can depend on the chop shot he called old …it may not be great everytime but i can salvage a shitty round and at least still enjoy some of the game ….my point is I don’t know how trying to slide under a ball set in the rough is less prone to miss hit than chopping down on back of ball …in mycase not very professional but can be effective 😬

@mntlblok
@mntlblok 10 месяцев назад
Actually, a couple of *other* variations I've seen of yours. 🙂 I guess there's a subtle difference between a ball sitting "down" in the rough and one sitting "all the way down to the ground" in Bermuda rough. Your steep attack with a release at the bottom that sort of stops the club head shortly after contact for that latter case worked mind bogglingly and surprisingly well. Also had fabulous success with the first myth buster example in the bunker, but the previous video made a point of a 50/50 weight distribution and the ball in the vicinity of the middle of the stance. It got rid of my tendency to enter the sand 8, rather than the planned 2 inches behind the ball. Even warming up and making contact with that "line in the sand" became all but perfect by moving said line back to the middle of my stance.
@Dreama40
@Dreama40 9 месяцев назад
Setting up more 50/50 for chipping and having the ball more forward with less shaft lean, i tried this and the bounce definitely engages more, I found it a more forgiving method.

Hinge and Hold method of chipping that isnt mentioned here and he doesnt do it when he tries to demonstrate is that you need hand speed to the finish. The hand speed is the main ingredient.

Wait, Wait, I’m late to the party. 😢 To Haters: His mishits (that were exaggerated, of course) were the exact result of at least 3 or 4 of your personal shots this past weekend AND more than a few of your playing partners. That’s kinda the point, most amateur or Rec players practice little to none so finding a reliable repeatable shot is progress for us. To The Rest of Us: I knocked off 8 easy strokes in the last 5 rounds even with mishits leaving me in position to only go bogey/double bogey instead of a blow up. Nothing better than a chip to 10 inches instead of a blow by….

Well, have you seen Hovlands angle off attack and chipping stats lately? And weight forward is not imperative for shaft lean.
@iangraham705
@iangraham705 10 месяцев назад
I also don’t get the link between weight forward and shaft lean/ball position. You can be weight forward, ball forward and limited shaft lean to engage bounce
@falelaster
@falelaster 10 месяцев назад
@@iangraham705 Why engage the bounce, one more "random" thing that can go wrong, low-point in front of the ball means more angle off attack and more spin. If you add some hyperextention in the lead wrist you can add more loft and even more spin. Short game is often about transforming energy in to spin, long game the opposite transforming energy in to ball speed,
@iangraham705
@iangraham705 10 месяцев назад
@@falelaster when I say engage I mean present the club in such a way that the bounce can help if you don’t quite get the strike right, not deliberately try and use the bounce on every shot
@falelaster
@falelaster 10 месяцев назад
@@iangraham705 Nice that means minimal shaft lean witch creates dynamic loft and spin, and if you hit it low on the face you get the gear effect spin also.

The comedy is high regarding how intentionally pathetic the 'old way' efforts are. Not that the new methods aren't great .... That's why I'm watching.... But let's not confuse 'doesnt work' with many do it wrong or it is not perfect. Let no one forget the vast majority of tournaments won around the world have been one using the old ways. They work but are maybe not as easy or predictable

While I enjoyed the video I can't let it go by without a couple of comments. First and foremost, your use of the term 'modern' for contemporary golfers has a pejorative ring that rankles. By default, it puts every major player who came before you, in a dismissive, 'old-timer' category. Even more irritating is the fact that when you were demonstrating the older 'non-modern' techniques you did it half-heartedly, without actually trying to make the shot work.

"Professional golfers don't play their bunker shots (open stance etc, as explained) like that anymore." So what you're telling me is that they used to? Is the sand different? Any other factors? Flop shot, "straight up in the air" WOW, STRAIGHT UP.? Ok, I didn't know the ball went "straight up." And again, this is not myth busting this is just a "new way" if that. You can call it "modern" all you want, that doesn't mean the old way is wrong, but wait, the new way is your way so it must be special and shiny. "Hinge & Hold"...."I'm hinging and I keep missing the ball because my club is the air, my name is Parker." Next time ask a golfer. Long Bunker shot, again, I don't think you really understand what this myth busting means. And NO, you don't have to play the "plugged bunker shot with the closed, square club face." It isn't a dictatorship. "Chipping from the rough" all this has been covered Parker, OH WAIT, a new method for the 42 HCP golfer who plays golf with a scythe. "Weight Forward when chipping" is that a myth? It is recommended by Phil Mickelson. Next time use a dictionary to look up the hard words so you know what you're talking about.

Man this is validating. Always have used wedges “my way” vs what I was taught 10 years ago / what RU-vid videos say and “my way” had a ton of parallels with what’s deemed “modern”. Every time I put weight forward, for example, I felt like I’d hit it twice as hard as I meant to.
