I approached my short game like this years ago but got away from it, for some reason. Simplifying everything around the green takes so much pressure off of my game. Great video!

I just recently started using this bump and run tactic, and it is taken an average of four strokes off of my game. What you’ve shown with the mechanics of it can only make me better. Thank you.

Like the great Ray Floyd did back in the day… putting with loft. Well explained. Another side benefit esp with left below right putting grip is that the shaft returns to vertical at impact , almost zero shaft lean, the ball pops up because the true loft and bounce are presented at impact. The heel up stance means less chance of a dig into the turf.

Great advice!! Being an amateur who will normally putt, when possible, short of the green (or over) it amazes me how many I play with try to chip. Then chip again!! I’m going to work on my hybrids after watching this! I’m too far away from the ball. Thanks.

Should call it the putt and run. That would make the grip, stance and stroke self explanatory.

Thank you for these very smart, useful tips. It has always been my understanding that Arnold Palmer used the “bump and run” to great effect when not facing the threat of sand or water to try and “keep the ball on the ground”! Rather than risk “ chuncking” a wedge, I have used the 8 iron many times to land the ball close to the hole using the “bump and run” technique. What I also do, unfortunately, is “hit” the ball, so I often miss my mark. Your tips make sense to me, so I will change my technique. Thank you very much.

I bought a chipper for £30 and use that to bump and run. It has a golf club shaft and grip. I use a putting stroke up to 30 yards.

@@ianbarr5110 I used to have a chipper as well, years ago. The problem with that approach is it takes up a club spot in your bag and has limited uses.

One thing I have never understood is keeping your stance closed and your body facing 90 degrees from the line. I bump and run all the time, but I basically open my stance, so my toes are facing the hole (or direction I want to hit the ball). The swing is like I am tossing the golf ball underhand. It is a short, sweet swing that anyone can do. I learned this on my second full round of golf. I had been chipping back and forth across the greens. We walked past the putting green between holes 9 and 10. My buddy said... Try this. He hit three balls. I watched and then took one swing... ball in hole from about 20 feet. I never looked back.

It kills me how many amateurs think they can hit the perfect high lofted pitch shot from around the green. Ya maybe 1 out of 8 times those are bad odds go with the bump n run you’ll save a lot of shots..👍🏼👍🏼

Learned this from a dinosaur, after he watched me blow a birdie chance from the fringe. Practice this before you tee off on your next round and it is sure to shave strokes off your round.

Good stuff. But hybrid bump and run is much more unpredictable than any other club from this distance. Usually comes out crazy hot and best is an iron or putter

Using a hybrid. Parker didn't really answer the question about judging the power because of the "hotness" of the hybrid face. First, you just need to hit 50-100 bumps with a hybrid and observe the power. A good starting place for me: I just imagine my putting stroke for that same distance if it was all on the green. The hotness of the hybrid would normally make it go long, but that is offset by the slowness of the fringe grass off the green. Small adjustments can then be made based on how far off the green you are and also whatever you learned from your day hitting 100 practice bumps.

I completely disagree with the use of a hybrid in the first scenario. He is on a super tight fairway lie. All the hybrid does is jump over the first metre/yard and then rolls like a putt. It does not need to jump over the first meter/yard, its tight fringe/fairway. Why not just use a putter where most people already have the feel of how it will come off the face. So often we pull out a hybrid in this scenario and because we don't do it that often, we completely misjudge the pace. For me, the hybrid is for when there is a need to jump it over the first little bit (like rough or sprinkler head), but we want it to roll like a putt immediately after. I do not see a benefit to this shot in the video, over a putter.
