A thousand colonists were headed for Mars but they didn't make it. They crash landed on this moon of Jupiter’s. They were trying to contact the earth, trying to survive. Evil creatures from the land of darkness on the other side of the moon are coming for his daughter. Will he save her from a fate worse than death with his huge part-human war-machine? Today on the podcast our first story from the 1940s. More than eight decades ago Richard O. Lewis wrote Zurk. As is often the case we know very little about Lewis other than the fact that he wrote the story you’ll hear today and 20 others from 1939 to 1967.
If you bought the 132 page Winter 1941 edition of Planet Stories Magazine, released about a month before the bombing of Pearl Harbor, when it first came out you would have paid only 20 cents. You can buy it now on eBay for $150.
Gentle Marene was next when the black space cruiser called for its youth-levy. If only Zurk would spark to life-Zurk, this huge, part-human war-machine of tubular steel muscles and blank, mechanical mind.
From Planet Stories Magazine in November, 1941, Zurk by Richard O. Lewis.
We have plans to narrate several other Richard O. Lewis stories in the coming months.
Your honest 5-star ratings and positive reviews on Apple Podcasts are always appreciated.
Thanks for listening, thank you for sharing and we thank you in advance for your comments and suggestions. Send us an email anytime to scott@lostscifi.com.
Next week, another story from the amazing Philip K. Dick. He was sure he had discovered an incredible invasion of Earth by lifeforms from another planet. He didn’t know what to do! He tried to warn the government before things got out of hand. A Philip K Dick Audiobook, The Eyes Have It - That’s next week on the Lost Sci-Fi Podcast.

It doesn't seem a coincidence that the story was published just before Pearl Harbor. By September 27, 1940, when Japan signed the Tripartite Pact with Germany and Italy, it was becoming obvious that the tensions between the US and Japan could erupt at any time. By 1941 Britain and its allies were desperate for US help. However the US was paralyzed, unable to muster the internal support to join the war effort. It needed a major attack on US territory for them to spark to life. In the same way Zurk, the powerful war machine stood by helplessly until he was directly attacked by the aliens. Once he joined the fight the battle turned just as it did when the US declared war on Japan and Germany.

😀😃😄stay 🌈🌝🌞🪐🌠home🤩😍I Love these Old Science Fiction stories! I first read Andre Norton's Storm Over Warlock in 1960 also Citizen of the Galaxy by Robert A. Heinlein - The story of a slave boy who becomes free and grows up, making his way through the Galaxy. This is a thoroughly enjoyable science fiction book. I was 10 Years Old (Born 1949) and I Read Science fiction all my life- Now my eyes are ruined, so Audio Books and Readers like YOU are my salvation. 😀😃😄🤩😍
