Thank you. Question for you. i had a serious surgery that will probably last longer than STD. My doctor told me more like 6 months. : { Of course my job involves typing as I run an IT Help Desk. I am worried I will be fired after FMLA runs out.
Hey Joyce, thanks for watching! If you're anticipating your recovery will require more time than the time allotted from FMLA, talk to your employer and see if they can extend you additional time off. If you clearly are unable to perform your job just yet, FMLA usually can be extended for some more time pending other circumstances. Additionally, you might want to look into Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) if your disability is severe enough to be expected to last a year or longer.
PTO is a great option so be sure to check your employer plan before looking into STDI. If you have enough PTO to cover your time off, you're probably best going that route since it's free and keeps your income coming in! Thanks for watching!
