Great Review! I own a Shin for over 7 Years now and agree with all of your Points. But those Knifes are not made to do some kind of Bushcraft stuff at all, they are made for cutting and slicening only. So never ever make hard Tasks with it, they will cip easy when you use it the wrong Way! Rockstead itself say that on theyr Website. I used mine for over 2 Years at work as an Electrician, and it had many Scraches, around 3 Cips and a very loose Pocketclip after that, but was still scary sharp without any Maintrance. Send it to Rockstead under Warranty and the regrind the Blade, all Cips are gone, Pocketclip is solid again and most of the Scraches are gone to. But they dont repolish the Blade. So i am still in Love with the Shin, gread Knive. By the way, this Hole in the Blade comes frome the Bloodline of traditional Katanas.
The Tei has a deep carry clip, more stingray skin, and a less boring lock side scale. It cost way too much imo. But it is a better version of the same idea.
Highest quality knives you can buy. There is no production company matching the craftsmanship of Rockstead.. This is still my unrealised dream , especially this model but not yxr version but zdp/vg10 clad
I don't understand why they couldn't mirror the show side over to the lock/clip side. Especially on a knife of that price it is really lacking. It's like you look at it an go "That's nice." then turn it around and go "Oh...well..nice black coating? I guess." Good review though!
What do you mean? It's perfectly done.. You mean mirror finish on handle or what cause bevels are just the best mirror finish you can get on any knife.. If you mean handle, it's really stupid idea to polish handle scales cause knife will be very slippery and it would kill the contrast between sativ flats and mirror bevels.. I think it's perfect..
Shin is the best looking Rockstead for me but they could do better with back scale. Such a shame. It same story with alot of knives around 1000 usd price tag. Overpricing but people keep buying me included :)
This is not overpriced at all.. indeed it's very expensive but you pay for a knife that no-one else can offer in fit and finish and absolutely exclusive materials... If you ask me if I rather pay 500 for fucking sebenza or 1000 for this I would take this 7 days in a week!!!
The steel composition is as follows.. C 0.8% W 1.1% V 1.0% Cr 5% Mo 5%+ some Mn ,Si.. Hitachi alloy.. Not so much carbon actually.. If you compare with other steels.. Zdp 189 has 3% or S110V 2.8%.. This is great steel according to composition and I would like to know what and witch dumbass did that chip cause this blade is heat treated to 64-65hrc.. Who did basically fucked up entire knife cause ones you remove the chips it will be already too thick behind the edge..Some people are really retards.. They buy a knife that is specifically made to hold edge in light, medium work and they go batoning galvanized steel wire or idk what he did to fuck that blade.. It's for cutting not chopping.. Such a shame and waste!!! He pretty much deserves his hands broken.. It reminds me of advertising the shock resistant phone and the boy come with a hammer and pang over the display..
