The video explains how I saved over 200 useful payload capacity pounds in my short bed tow vehicle and saved over $1,000 too! Is everyone saying you need a slider hitch to pull your 5th wheel? If you are thinking of getting a short bed tow vehicle and 5th wheel, you want to see this first! It also shows you how I can do 88 degree turns in my short bed truck and 5th wheel combination without having a heavy slider hitch! Explains what to look for in a 5th wheel so you may not need a slider hitch.

Also pictured in the video is my RDS Auxilary Fuel/Tool Box that holds an additional 40 gallons of diesel fuel. This extends my towing range from 250 miles to 650 miles and helps me avoid those busy fuel stops and allows me to stop at the cheapest price fuel stops, or at the end of the day once I have disconnected my 5th wheel.

We have the same hitch. I changed from a traditional 5th wheel hitch to this type, it is a lot lighter but it also is in pieces so it is way easier to lift. I could not lift the traditional hitch as one part. The pull rite is lighter as a whole unit and divides into 5 pieces. One piece, the king pin to ball adapter, goes on the trailer. The rest, the goose ball mounts 1st, then the 2 rails then the hitch. You lineup the hitch on the rails with tabs into slots. You put pins across the goose ball & torque bolts and lock nuts to lock it in. It is very easy to line up the trailer ball into the hitch & a simple turn of a lever locks it in. You can hook up even at a 90° angle. Certain parts need to be sprayed with a lube. It connects to the truck using a goose ball in the floor of the bed. There are bolts & lock nuts that have to be torqued to install it. The instructions list the amounts. They need to be checked periodically. There are also 2 "bed saver" heavy metal cross beams the go under the hitch on the bed floor, their weight needs to be added to the amount in the video. They were included with the hitch when I purchased it. Everything is more expensive after the plandemic, I'm sure this pull right is over a thousand dollars & all the others are likely up to 2 thousand. I did have the adapter on the way you have it in the video (the ball in front of the kingpin) once and due to the terrain in the dealers parking lot, the bottom of the pin box hit the top of the tailgate. I turned it around & have had good clearance between the front of the camper & back of the cab. We watch carefully & go slow in sharp turns. the instructions say it can be installed this way. I have the height at the lowest setting to keep the camper roof a/c clearance below 13'6". Thanks for your video!

The chucking and bouncing with this type of hitch is brutal. Changed to the b&w companion and I have no complaints. Pulls like a dream and have to check my mirrors more often to make sure my RV is still back there. Just my thoughts

I went with a Reese Sidewinder and Curt A20. Can make 93 degree turns with 4" of cab clearance still with an Arctic Wolf 3660SUITE. The A20 weighs 108 pounds total. If for some reason my trailer needs to be towed with something else, there are two locking bolts and remove the wedge. Best part of the Sidewinder, I can spin the thing 180 degrees out of the way so it can't be walked into on a dark night. What I don't like about these ball type hitches is they offset the pins CG behind the rear axle to give you more swing room and lighten the front axle. For best handling the pin should be on center or slightly forward of the axle to keep the weight on the front axle. You must have a magic F250 if it's a power stroke. The dry pin on that trailer is 2080 pounds. I have yet to see a diesel F250 with enough payload for that and passengers.

Being a heavy haul truck driver for 32 years my theory on this hitches and the floating head type hitches is it makes the camper rock back and forth to easy when your on a rough road and a crowned road. No resistance to the hitch, can't feel the movement in the tow vehicle. So if your taking a corner to fast your TV isn't helping it from laying up and then you have a rollover like you read about now and then. Picture a tractor trailer having a hitch like that, be rollovers everywhere

Thats one thing that concerns me too. We go to some camp grounds that while the roads are finally new pavement they seem to be pitched big time for run off and 45-65mph zones plus these camp grounds around here at least, most have some ridiculous crowns and ditches on either side. IDK I might be making more out of it. With us living in a city environment we need to make some very tight turns, as much as I'd love to keep my bed free, I dont want to be making insurance claims so I'll stick with the Pullrite Superglide.

I have seen systems like this that work well, but this one adjust the leverage point of the hitch enough to put extra stress on the frame. Yes it saves on weight, and money, but your hauling a 30-100k 5th wheel. Spend the extra bit on something more sturdy IMO. Next to this the link you provide stats the hitch is 130 pounds, and it now cost 1000$

I don't need a slider for towing as we have the modern cap as well but I do use one because I need to slide it back so I have more clearance at the tailgate backing it down our steep driveway to our barn. Otherwise I would not need one. Hope that made sense

@@1KDirtmod thats why I went with the PullRite. There are several examples of the Andersen folding up and failing but not a single one of a PullRite failing. I'm a professional truck driver. Need to mount the fithwheel so you are a max front axle weight with your People and stuff in the cab full fuel. Measure from center of jaw to the left or right back corner. For rear swing clearance. Front swing measure center of jaw to the center front of the truck box. Measure kingpin to outer edge of front corner of the trailer.for swing clearance. Get a CAT scale ticket. RV empty but full truck fuel propane, water, generator fuel. Know your individual gross axle weights. And load accordingly. If the fithwheel is to far back your steering will be too lite. Which suck when in rainy curvy mtn roads or in a crosswind situation. So have fun RVing and spec right.

I see some F250 have the same or less cargo capacity than my F150 gasser. #2. I've heard you can void the warranty or at least cause extra stress on the trailer frame by converting them to a Goose neck. Is this true and have you had any issues since doing this ? ... THANK YOU

I utilized all 3 off set points (goose ball receiver, orientation of the actual hitch/pyramid, and the orientation of the ball on the kingpin) for the max amount of clearance...are you utilizing all 3 offsets? Wait a minute.... I don't see any rails in your bed. That's a pet peeve of mine, how are you attaching that to the bed... AND, is it easy to pull out and re-install? AND, how is it connected without rails? I was already considering a Pullright set of "SuperRails" that have a sort of puck like system allowing you to remove the rails, but they are a thousand bucks... But you went right after my "concerns" regarding hitches. The Dealer shows me some Demco??? full install at over 3K and it weighs almost 300 lbs. I'm sorry, I want to use my bed, not have a behemoth of a hitch living back there taking up all the room...that I CANNOT lift even with another person's help... I can lift that thing in and out easy...by myself...

I love this thing so far. I have towed about 3000 miles with it. The reason I was watching this is I wanted to see the height adjustment. Mine has to be on the highest setting for 7 inches of bed rail clearance. Most of the videos I see they have it on the lowest setting. Also, there are some pin boxes that this hitch doesn't work with. You can find the list on their website.

Hello, I have the same Pullrite 2600 in my Ram 3500 short box. I like the ease of installation and hook up but not the towing. I get loud banging noise every time I stop and start pulling. The hitch slides in the free floating bottom plates and it clangs. I have the nylon spacers and retorqued many times. I have changed the ball mount from forward to back, did not help. Do any of you using this hitch have similar noise?

Hi just saw your video you said in it that you keep your PIN in the closest setting to your cab but if you set it to the furthest you believe you will not have any issues coming into contact with your cab and you could easily do a 90 degree turn just wanted to confirm and also wanted to know what your reason is for keeping it in the closest setting I'm looking into getting a truck similar to yours and currently tow a fifth wheel thank you

Is this stronger than Andersen ultimate? This looks thin for the weight of a fifth wheel. And the addition of extra ball that can break. I saw several pics of Andersens where the ball simply snapped after light collision or hard braking. Did anyone seriously compare this adapter to andersen ultimate? Thanks.

Take out an extended warranty on the truck. Most engine work is going to be $$$ due to the cab having to come off the truck. My son has the identical truck (2015) and paid almost 2K for a $300 DEF heater to be installed.

@lovingrvlife5512 4 года назад
Charlie, That is good advice! I did buy the Ford extended warranty because my friend had the same issue with Def Heater. I however had the Death Wobble at 38k miles, and the regular drive train warranty would not cover, but the extended warranty did. That was about $1500 worth of work. My Truck only has 45k miles now, and warranty good for 5 yrs or 150k miles.

So, I am wondering why you would not put the hitch point in the rear position, does the shift back make that much difference in the weight on the axle or the ride dynamics? Seems like the extra room would be extra insurance against a cab strike. Also, was wondering if not having a hitch plate makes for a less stable ride, is that an issue? I am interested to see you also have a storage box. It it also a extra fuel tank? What brand is it? I am looking to buy my first 5th wheel and truck. Been towing a trailer over 20K miles for past 5 years. Ready to upgrade, decisions, decisions🤔

I’ve just started searching for a new tow vehicle so I can move up to a 5th wheel. So far the F-250 diesels I’ve seen have limited payload capacity, like in the 2200-2300 pound range. That wouldn’t leave much left for other cargo and passengers if the pin weight of the rigs I’m looking at once loaded is 1600-1750 pounds. Can I ask you the load capacity of your tow vehicle and trim level?

It’s funny most of you are like save weight. But your 5th wheels are all over 10,001 lbs GVW Dry. So without your non-CDL class A drivers license Pennsylvania DOT would shut you down. Recreation vehicle doesn’t apply when you are talking about weight classes. That’s the GVW number on that sticker. Class C or Class B is towing 10,001 < Class A 10,001 > this is how it looks like on the back of your DL Pennsylvania started checking yrs ago after so many accidents with all types of trailers have been happening. Now Ohio started 2 yrs ago that was good for me. Because as a retired truck driver I was asking to go down the road from are campgrounds to drive a friends 5th wheel RV home for him. Ohio DOT was waiting for campers going home Sunday. It was funny how most snob nose fifth wheelers were becoming my best friend now. So just putting it out there.
@jameslowmanjr6141
@jameslowmanjr6141 4 года назад
Joe DeMasters You’re funny not for hire you put that on a big truck with a fifth wheel they will definitely pull you over because they’re gonna want to see your logbooks they’re gonna want to know for a vehicle that doesn’t have a DOT number on it why are you saying you’re not for hire. Anyway to keep this short. I used to be a truck driver because of my physical card I lost my CDL in order for me to continue pulling trailers over 10,000 pounds you have to have a non-CDL class A drivers license and you can say but but but all you have to do is drive down to your local Department of transportation and ask them do I need a class A non-CDL to tow over 10,000 pounds and it doesn’t matter what you’re towing RV lowboy trailers because we’re not talking about what your pulling we’re talking about how much weight you’re pulling and that’s where the difference comes in. And there is no hotshot DOT‘s there people just like us that have a job to do that’s the keep everybody safe on the highways because people like you that don’t know what you’re talking about are the reason why there’s quite a few dead families in Pennsylvania because you have no idea what you’re doing when it comes up to towing heavy equipment.
@robbiejk9613
@robbiejk9613 3 года назад
@@jameslowmanjr6141 James, I can agree with you to a degree, but not everyone who tows a 5th wheel travel trailer is a "hot shot". Yeah, there are some idiots out there who can barely drive a car and speed all the time, then start towing a 5th wheel and transfer their horrible driving habits from a 4,000 pound car to now driving a combination of around 20,000 pounds +. I am not one of them. Agreed that there are some major imbeciles out there towing these things. I've seen people towing a 5th wheel as big as mine (41' long x nearly 13 feet high) tailgating someone in the fast lane at 70+mph. I was passed by the same size rig on I-30, East of Dallas once with trailer brakes smoking and it only got worse the more miles they kept driving. Just East of Dallas, a fire started in the ass end and they FINALLY exited.

Hello sir, I also want to ask that is on the draw down bolt is your nut directly under the funnel or farther out from the funnel, I'm looking for to go back farther toward my tailgate?
@lovingrvlife5512
@lovingrvlife5512 4 года назад
George Godman, You have 2 options for moving your mounting point towards the tailgate. The funnel is away from the draw down bolt, so funnel can be in front of or behind your gooseneck ball if that is your attachment type. Naturally it is preferable to have the funnel behind the gooseneck ball in a shortbed truck. I would imagine the option is the same for the 4 point attachment version. You can also place the kingpin adapter plate with ball in front of or behind the king pin, also giving you additional options for your trailer movement towards the back. I currently have my set up with the funnel behind the gooseneck ball, and the kingpin adapter behind the kingpin so the kingpin and the trailer weight seems to be centered over the ball. I hope this answered your question and thank you for watching and commenting!
