🔴 Thanks for watching. What do you like best about this short backswing and is there anything about it you don't understand? Let me know in the comments below 👇
Great video, one question at the end how do you generate so much speed with such a short swing as in start the downswing is it all in the legs/fire left hip back like Tommy Fleetwood explains ? Cheers.
You are one of the best coaches on RU-vid, very clear and effective, I completely agree that a well-executed shorter swing can generate more power than any long swing, clear examples being Finau and Rahmbo. Thank you for all the additional details on the swing."
This is so good. I switched to a shorter backswing primarily because I struggle with shallowing - especially my driver. When I do it correctly my driver is straight as an arrow with zero loss of distance. Thank you!
Troy - you answered my question yesterday and today I took the shorter swing and left shoulder down to the range. I striped it like crazy! If anything, I had to consciously make a bigger turn, because the shorter swing was set earlier and made me want to go just a bit sooner. But, other than that, the shorter swing coupled with left shoulder (just for a second) low was a - big time - combination. That you for the tips - best I have ever seen, at least for me - Tom in California
Thank you. Your ideas should suit me as I am 80 years old. I have subscribed & will give your method a try. After some practice I will watch the next 2 videos. I like your brief to the point suggestions.
Good content. Best piece of advice I got in shortening my back swing was when my pro told me I can have a bigger shoulder turn with a shorter back swing. Felt awkward at first but now I think of bigger shoulder turn and getting the arms only to 90 deg at the top. It probably goes a bit further because the feel isn't real but it does help me increase the width like you talked about.
Returned to golf at 50 after not playing 10 years . Lost 10- 15 % distance in all clubs . This video gives me a new outlook on swing .Im inconsistent hitting it out middle and partial to hitting it heavy now n then . It's great video with the 2 angles for seeing hand and hip position thru swing . It should help me get more rotation and less over the top plus more distance with better ball striking . Looking forward to implementing this more .
@@Hittingitsolid yes shorter swing = more control so better centre striking. hand position at top gives more rotation so less over the top . Open hips and club head position on downswing creating power . :)
Enjoyed the video! When I first started golfing about 20 years ago I had a short back swing that always produced good contact. In the years since then, I've had instructors and other golfers try to "correct" my swing. I've consistently struggled with poor contact that seemed to be getting worse over the years. But now there seems to be a growing movement in golf to "swing your own swing". Watching players like Rahm and Finau, and seeing your video had me convinced it was time to find my way back to my original swing. Watched the tips in your video and everything felt so natural again after putting it into practice. I'm now striking the ball better than I ever remember. Thanks for the help.
You answered your own question, "Your Own Swing" PGA Players have all the Clubs Jacked to the Max for performance...Players in the 30s and '40s were way ahead of their time without the technology and the Distance they had whether a Short or Long Swing didnt matter.
I’m over 60 now (play 3-4 times per week) and keep trying to get a big backswing and actually seem to “get lost” as I do this. Additionally, I tend to early extend, but never seem to be able to correct this as my big backswing is such a mess. Today, I tried a shorter backswing on my own, just focusing on getting clubhead speed and my follow-thru and I hit the ball immensely better. After hearing your tips, I’m emboldened to continue this with a bit more technique this time.
Exactly the same for me! Shorter backswing improves two things for me: More on-center ball strikes and better acceleration through impact (I think a longer backswing invites deceleration).
I used this to shorten my swing as I've been struggling this season, tried it on the course last week for the first time and played my best round this year, 11 shots better than the previous week 👍👍 thank you for the great tips.
This was really helpful and definitely helped me play more comfortably. Even as a big guy this made me realize just how short may arms are, so good thing I don’t skip leg day
This is such good information. This encapsulates the technique that , as advertised, will make you and I better ball strikers This guy is good so listen up.
Been watching your tips. Enjoying them. My backswing is short anyway but feeling a little bit wider seems to help me get my weight onto my lead side. I do notice that I hit it a bit shorter but not too much.
Been working on this. Still a bit less distance but better ball striking. Maybe just a speed thing. Also trying to draw the ball but not much success!!! Enjoying your videos. Thanks 😊
I have been wanting to accomplish this for a very long time. Now that I have seen how you teach to accomplish this I am now on a mission. Is there a particular club that you suggest using the bulk of the time that will make the transition go easier and faster?
@@Hittingitsolid Yes I’ve found them super helpful! It’s just a matter of me watching parts of of while on the range. Also working with an instructor so I can use the things he gives me along with some drills of yours.
So I have been back and forth with different swings over the years. I find my best shots are always my shorter wedges because for some reason when I strike them it's always a 3/4 swing. Back controlled and through to 3/4. The shots feel very pure and I connect with them well and the distances are more predictable. I have been thinking maybe I should just apply this to all irons and lead me to this video.
I like your videos, they are clear and to the point. But some of the other sites are talking about pro vs amateur swing, and say that there is no way for an amateur to swing like a tour pro, and should adopt an amateur swing, us golf tv and a few others say the same thing. Should we amateurs be swinging differntly?
You can swing whatever feels best to you. It’s different for everyone. Swing within yourself. It’s always good to learn from pros swings as they are the best models to learn from
This is such a great video. Thank you for explaining the half swing and the arm depth point. What is that golf net?? It seems like a nice compact size which I’m looking for.
Thanks Troy for explaining the short backswing. I would like to know if a little bit of momentum (sort of ‘back again’ feeling) helps after reaching the ‘top’ of the swing. With a bit of momentum I feel that I’ve loaded the half swing ready to accelerate through the ball. Is that ok to do or will it eventually take me off track? Cheers from Adelaide.
2 month ago, i make a shorter backswing...arround 3/4, with a better turn. The hip is very importend for the turn. Results...way better ballcontact, straighter, higher and longer... Better rymthm and left side better turn...nice finish with a smooth swing👌💃 It's another sport🤣👍
Nice work Barney, I've personally found especially with the irons it's a much more repeatable and consistent golf swing. No loss of distance either. Cheers
I've noticed something interesting on flight monitors. My distance and ball speed goes up substantially when I feel like I'm rotating my entire body/left side and keeping my wrists from cocking too much or getting too loose. So I feel like I maintain feel on backswing and as swinging through all the way down my left side and have full body tension. As soon as I swing with less tension due to letting my wrists cock more at start of my downswing or anything feeling sort of loose and not just like one giant body turn I lose power. I've noticed this many times. So the top of my backswing is just sort of where this tension get to where I naturally stop without pushing back too far or even stop a little short of that. For me this tension and full body turn is critical for distance as opposed to a long backswing or full wrist hinge. Anything that makes me loose this full body connectedness/tension loses me power. I have never seen anything written about this though but I do thing the tour pros look like they maintain this sort of full body tension no matter how big their swing. And of course need to stay wide in the arc.
With my larger backswing it felt like most of my swing speed was maxed out before I got to the ball (casting likely). With the shorter back swing I try to max the swing speed at or right after the ball which means I need more time and space to slow and finish the swing. For me the shorter backswing resulted in a longer follow through.
I have short back swing but still have enough power to play off low hcap , my issue is getting quick and coming up and out of the shot ??!!🙈 The other thing that annoys me is other golfers love to point out and comment on the shortness of my swing saying things like “how do you hit it so far with a short little swing “ ,
Be careful at adress not to let the shaft and hands lean too much in front of the ball ... i have played with this for years and take only few divots ... i am 195 cm and need the ball closer as i will introduce shanks if i need to reach out and loose my balance (moving forward with my toes) ... but great video 👍 ... better with ball on all iron a little forward in setup
Here's my take on the shorter backswing, it's not the swing, PGA Tour Players play with different equipment than we do, for example, Golf Balls, Tweaking with their OMI Driver Face, Shafts the list is long, still meets Golf Specs but pushed to the max for performance, if the right Hip gets through the swing with a Long Backswing or Short Backswing huge different if your Driver or Irons are not Jacked for performance, the first thing going away for 2024, are Golf Balls so the distance is the same regardless who the brand is...just like NASCAR, all the vehicles have the same top speed, hopefully, the Equipment is next, you won't have scores in the Sixtys, especially on shorter Yardage Courses, or keeping your Golf Ball in play off of Spectors and having them find your ball.
