it means they have sense of choosing shortest path. that's great.

they follow the most potent pheromone trail. if the ants following one trail take a long time to return, that trail decays in potency.
@fierydawn2635
@fierydawn2635 3 года назад
@@logancapes if that was the only factor then they wouldn't have switched to faster route a 2nd time, due to the sheer number of "ants" inside the shortest path. Same actually applies to switching to the shortest path the first time around.

@@fierydawn2635 They cant sense the pheromones out in the grass until they are out in the grass. They can only sense what is directly under them. When the other ants get stalled in the grass, that trail decays.

Can you explain how they work? Which values are in the ant? What the every chunk / map position has?
@gaeel330
@gaeel330 3 года назад
Not OP, but ant colony optimisation is a fairly well-document concept. The idea is the ants walk around randomly, leaving a trail behind them that says where they're coming from, food or home. If an ant is empty "handed" and comes across a "from food" trail, they'll follow it, if they are carrying food and come across a "from home" trail, they follow it. The trails die out over time, which makes more recent trails more attractive. This causes the ants to eventually form "highways" that have strong trails of both types, that are getting refreshed by all the ants marching along them. In order to prevent the ants building an inefficient highway and never optimising it, some ants will be a little rebellious and try a different path, if the path they took turns out to be a bit shorter, the other ants will eventually follow
@darkfrei2
@darkfrei2 3 года назад
@@gaeel330 Thanks! So the map has two vector-pheromones: home and food? Every ant leaves behind the "oriented amount" of such pheromone. Such vector will be every time some shorter (lineal or exponential) until it will be not more sensitive for other ants.
@darkfrei2
@darkfrei2 3 года назад
Ant the ant reads such vectors, have the probability to change direction to or from this vector (or not change direction) for _some_ angle. And after it leave the own vector to this map position.
