Shostakovich and Rachmaninov, at cello, by Asier Polo and Marta Zabaleta 

From disparate aesthetics positions, the Russian composers Sergei Rachmaninoff and Dmitri Shostakovich made significant contributions to the cello repertoire. The former composed his Sonata in G for Cello and Piano in 1901 for his friend, the cellist Anatoliy Brandukov. The latter composed his only Cello Sonata in 1934 and dedicated it to Victor Kubasky.
