Thank you a lot for this video. Very well explained! I managed to pull all of the transitions off. I'll definitely use some of them in my next few videos!
I read the below comments, and several of them complain about you talking too fast. I agree. Remember that we are learning. Don't move your mouse so fast. It gets me dizzy and I don't get where you're clicking. Again, we are learning!!!
Hey EJ, thanks for this! You were to the point and concise! 👍 I've always wondered if Shotcut has more than one type of transition and now thanks to you, I'm glad there are many to choose from! 👌 I look forward to seeing more of your videos! You just earned a new subscriber and fan! 😎
I am quite new to Shotcut, but do find it a very good program. However, transitions are a bit of a problem. Is there any way, to perhaps set up multiple transitions at one time, each with the exact same options / length. It's a bit annoying having to one-by-one drag the right clip over the left one and try to position it to exactly match a previous one, say 24 frames in length.
you take the risk, that if you repeat the same transitions again and again, that the whole presentation/video will feel form viewer perspective very boring. Imagine, you have a water flow ... as soon you squeeze this water flow into a straight channel, then the excitement to watch a natural water flow in a "wild river bed" is gone. Thats not interesting for the senses. I think you need to think more from audience side, and take each transition for itself and adapt it to momentary situation, e.g. music in the background can have an impact onto the emotional expression ... and to this should be adapted also the transition. Every good movie has very individual transitions ... and that's what makes a video/movie/reel a good one, isn't ?
Great Video! The quality of the video is really good for the amount of subscribers and views you have. Honestly though. Your presentation and method of doing things is comparable to other famous youtubers
This is great! There is just one problem, when i merge the 2 clips together the sound is distorted from the actual video. please tell me how to fix this.
The the extra inbuilt transition properties was awesome to learn. If possible can you add some 3rd part links to open source transitions like the last example. It took me 30 minutes just to get a decent open source royalty free lens flare overlay that did not involve shtterstock or money. Thx for great content
What! It has more than that one transition!? I wasn't aware. This was mind-blowing. Thank you so much. BTW. I have a question about something else I would love to do. My animation program, Krita, seems to support transparent animation. But they never show up as transparent on Shotcut. Is there anything I can do, to make this work? It is not super needed, but would be a nice effect to use once in a while.
was about to watch the tutorial from the shotcut youtube channel, but once I heard his lame voice who was about to sleep making the video, I switched to another video with only 7500 but good energetic voice and good sound quality, keep up your videos.
Great video! I am just having trouble finding the actual overlay transitions to download. I read in the comments in the bottom that you can find them on RU-vid, but the algorithm is only showing me tutorials. Can you please provide a link with downloadable transitions? Thank you!
I was mad excited that I couldn't express that , I have been learning been looking for transitions then I saw your video. Love you vocally explain and that you break it down in detailed steps for a beginner to really get it right . WELL-DONE! ALL the way from Nigeria!👍👍👌
Please answer these questions, if you have the time! : Does shotcut lag a lot? Does shotcut crash often? Is shotcut a very efficient software to use for editing/making videos for events (such as baby videos, youtube videos, etc.)?
1) Depends on computer specs 2) Sometimes also depends on computer specs and optimization. 3) Yes. Shotcut is a very versatile tool, you can make as simple or advanced videos as you want. Btw if you want an in depth review just check out the Review video I made on Shotcut.
Do you advise to mix up transitions or to stick with one (length and style). What do u think looks more professional for a documentary type of video? Thanks!
When editing documentary type videos or anything that requires a more "professional" touch, I usually tend to keep things simple. Meaning that your transitions should not get in the way of the actual story. Instead it should be supporting the flow of the story. Each scene transition should be looked at carefully to then decide what transition best fits the scene change. I mainly use short and quick transitions. Either being an L or J cut, using B-Roll to cover up a transition, classic fade in/out transitions. My favorite being not adding a transition at all. Most of the time they're not need and just having 2 clips is more than enough. I just realized that this question and answer would be great for a RU-vid short. Do you mind if shared your question with everyone else?
1:07 before I see the shotcut interface at all. Whatever you are using for your intro had me about to downvote for mistitling as I assumed this was a tutorial for a different program.
Yea sorry I use clips of my video editor when I'm editing the video you are seeing whenever I do some sort of voice over, but I did show Shotcut in the beginning tho. I might have to fix that in future videos. Thanks for the feedback!
So if you want to fade a video to black you can either go to... 1) Filters 2) Video Tab 3) Choose fade in/out video (depending on what you need) 4) adjust settings Or Go to the start or end of the clip in the video track, and go to the corner and a little icon should appear that allows you to drag it to add a add in or out from there.
You can delete the transition by right clicking and delete. You can drag both clips away from each other so they don't overlap. You can cut or slice the start and end of the transition in the video if its already integrated. But you'll have to adjust the video accordingly.
@@EJTech. thanks for the info👍🏽. You can be a hero to use newbies if you do a video. The only videos are from earlier versions of shortcut which shows some long complicated process. Thanks.
There is a zoom icon (the lens), near the word Timeline. You can thus zoom in. There is a zoom out button to the left side. There is also a scroll bar between the zoom out and zoom in buttons, you can use it to change the zoom level.
If you're using preset transitions then they should always be there for you to use everytime. But if you're making a custome transition using keyframes, there is a copy and paste button underneath the filters that you are using or inside the keyframes timeline as well.
@@EJTech. I am using preset transition but my question is if I am applying a transition between first and second videos and if I want to apply same time duration transition between 3 and 4 video and how to copy transition which is applied between 1 and 2 and paste between 3 and 4th video.
Yea of course, I made a video on how to remove a green screen background, but I can totally make a video on how to make green screen clips. Did you have a specific type of clip that you would like to turn into a green screen clip?
When you change the speed of a clip (to slower so longer) it will overlap the next clip instead of pushing it over, any way to prevent this?? I'm always messing around with the speed and it's incredibly annoying.
I actually have a separate video on how to adjust the speed of your video. What I would do is to add the effect separate and be sure to select only on the video clip you want to adjust it too. If that doesn't work try adding a separate track. Let me know if any of this works.
@@EJTech. I watched your other video and it doesn't answer my question. I also watched a handful of other tutorials on other channels and it seems everyone is avoiding to point out this specific major flaw in Shotcut. The only way is as you mention, create a second track and move everything over one by one. I love everything else about it, but this is a dealbreaker for me.
Yea no worries, like I said in my review, Shotcut may not be for everyone, its just important to keep on looking for that video editor that suits your needs.
This is probably a great video if you're a total tech geek. You lost me in about 30 seconds and I'm no better off than when I started. I just want to fade in at the beginning of a scene with a large number of different images. I guess I'll do like normal and do all the heavy lifting in OBS because at least that software makes sense.
