Good informative video. I live in the UK and hold a shotgun license, yes the gun safe has to be securely bolted but can be bolted through the floor alone and not the wall. I live in a static caravan where there are no solid walls, I have bolted the safe through the floor with metal plates beneath the wooden floor, the fire arms officer does have a good waggle to make sure the safe is secure and will also want to see the securing points, but he was more than happy and granted my license. Just thought I'd mention this incase there are any people out there that do not live in brick buildings that may want to apply for the shotgun licenses.
I hate criminals I love nice kind friendly people but you have the right to depend yourself that's if you want to live england got so much crime in my town very little
It's a shame the U.K. Government and / or Police is so anti-gun...anti-knife, anti-self defense to protect oneself. Remember when seconds count, police are minutes away..
STOP GUN CONTROL! Actually every county has a firearms unit but regularly police have a tazzer not a gun an fao is a last resort even then they are trained to detain not kill, as for every officer having fire arms training, that is not true as they need to be in the police for 2 years before reasiving any such training as to reduce money spent by the taxpayer.
I have just started to apply for my shotgun certificate but mine said you just need one referee for a shotgun but you need two for a section one firearm certificate
U.K. firearm laws are fucked. I'm in the u.s. shotguns are considered a utilty gun. Just as easy to get as an airrifle. I have two .22s on the wall in my hallway, and a shotgun. Didn't have to apply for shit.
My home interview was 75 mins. They like it when you name your instructor, show them a safety training certificate from cpsa or similar, and can understand all markings on a box of cartridges. You don't need to do this, but it gets your inspector on side with the application.
Interesting. I hope you and all other people of the UK will have their firearms (self-protection and sporting) freedoms restored one day soon. God Bless us all.
Why is it easier to get shotgun licence than for me to legally own a 20ft/lb .177 air rifle? Should I get a Shotgun licence before applying for a licence for 12lbs + air rifle ?
Just out of curiosity. Can you store you shotgun at another SG license holders address or store it at say a gun club etc? Does anyone know sorry to ask I don't know about that part of UK gun laws as I know its fairly strict i have lots of questions is there a good UK forum ?
@@dalroache don't be daft mate all questions are welcome,I believe if it's to be stored long term then you may need to make the police firearms department aware but for a few days is ok but not 100% sure myself,I'll look it up later
@@joekirkwood1472 depends, ive seen 18 year olds with better weapons handling skills than the old sweats. rather simple of you to assume that age equals common sense
@@joekirkwood1472 what a 18 yearold would do without out a shotgun is more brutal. I'm 18 and I know several people who pretty much have beaten robbed and killed people and gotten away with it. They attack with there mates. I knew I guy I use to be friends with, 3 boys attacked and jumped him with knives and killed the police couldn't get eneogh evidence to get them guilty. So it's either be a good fighter where you can beat a guy I'd challenging eneogh on top of 3 additional mates on top of they knives or outrun them which is unlikely. But a pistol would put them all down. Even if they had there guns on them youd have better chances of surviving than fighting guys with knives. They never stop comming for you hy the way it isnt like the movies where one guy gets beaten he walks of hell bring his mates and if your civilised you wont have mates. I've personally been threatend saying I would be stabbed and I've been jumped by 3 guys. And I'm not a thug I go to uni studying biomed. It's either be bullied and be picked on and have them hit you or fight back and get jumped later, one guy infected put a knife to my stomach after I beat the shit out of him after he said shit and put his hands on me, next day pulls a knife on me stomach. The only people who criticised gun control are posh snobs who've never seen an estate l. Every1 I know would be comfortable with a gun ownership.
This is unreal. After living in a free state, I can't see ever agreeing to this amount of govt interference in buying/owing a gun. Especially a dang shotgun..And the video seems to say "That's all there is to it"..... Nope. Never. No way. I could see this if I was trying to buy a machine gun...
srspower There are a lot of us over here that hope the day comes when you guys get the same freedom. If our govt would lock up the criminals and stop trying to blame the good guys for all the crime we don't commit, well, that should be clear enough. Your videos are well done. Keep up the good work!
Molineux88 Aren't knife laws just as ridiculous? I'm not being critical of the British people as they are our best allies, I would just love to see y'all with the same freedoms.....
Credits Back Bruh no you don't need a purpose or reason for purchase, we can own any knife apart from gravity, auto, and butterfly knives, but we can only carry a non locking folding knife under 3 inches, if you're carrying any other type of blade then you need good reason for example a Stanley knife is technically illegal to carry but if your a builder or carpet fitter etc then that would come under good reason
All this just to buy a shotgun! What do they do with all this afterward? And they want photos. This was very interesting and eye opening. I’m speechless.
oh and the more people we get into shooting the bigger our voice will be! get your friends and family into it. it's a great past time for everyone, young and old alike.
Hypothetically say one was to grow and smoke cannabis but was a fine example a human otherwise, would this cause any greater punishments or loss of a license if this person was found to be guilty of this?
Yes, if you just got a caution for possession that would lose you your license as they would say that there were 'links to mental illness from smoking cannabis'. I don't think the scientific evidence backs that up but that is what would happen. Besides it means you are willing to break the law, currently, that is enough to revoke a license.
A little tip. Drill a couple of extra holes in the side of your cabinet and bolt it into a corner of a brick wall preferably a bedroom near a window. An outside wall is much thicker than an internal wall plus which ever direction you pull the cabinet it will be pulling sideways on the other bolts. Trust me it's NOT coming off
Very helpful video. From living in the countryside, my interest has been rekindled get into Shotguns and the sport as a whole. Very helpful video Many thanks Jim
im glad you mentioned the guy with aspergers i have it too and i was worried it would get in the way of me getting a gun license when i have the money to do so looks like i better get a BASC membership first
Really one of the best put together videos i’ve seen in a while. Everything i need to know to pursue a great hobby which needs more followers. Thank you 👍🏻
I just had my shotgun certifacert rejected because I'm only 15 and they don't want me having the keys to the gun safe because I would be the only certifacert holder in the home they told me to reapply when I'm 16 17 years old what should I do about it
I had a sentence of 15 months custodial suspended for two years after serving 6 months on remand for excessive self defence 5 years ago I’m a farmer and have nerver applied would this be possible to apply given my record to press?
im 15 and want to get a shotgun certificate and i have a couple of questions i hope you could help me with, i would be sharing a cabinet /guns with my dad and using his guns only for the time being so would i still need to get my own cabinet or not? also would i have any restrictions being under 18 i.e going round my dad's fields by myself. thanks in advance you have a very good channel.
william wells Being under 18 only prevents you buying a gun you can still borrow one and shoot it alone. You dont need your own cabinet no assuming your dads guns are all section 2.
just looked into it and if i really wanted to i guess could go campaigning and borrow it for up to 3 days with a certificate so thank you for responding you have a very good channel.
I have aspergers aswell and during my time in New Zealand the guns I got to use I had very good trigger discipline and always kept it pointed in a safe direction and unloaded until I was ready to fire, defo going with BASC
I got refused, contacted BASC and they refused to help me as they implied that I only joined them because I knew I would I be refused hence trying to exploit the policy. I joined before I made my application. So anyone trying to do this join first and wait, or just stay out of trouble.
They said I joined to only receive the benefit of membership, and I knew I would be refused. I haven't been arrested for 15 years and the have made the assumption I knew I would be refused. He gave me a line saying ' no insurer would allow you to claim after a crash!?' To me that's the sole purpose of insurance you take it out on anticipation of crashing do you not? I hadn't applied then got declined then joined BASC, I was a member first then I got declined I work ferrets and own air rifles I haven't just decided I wanted a shot gun application out of the blue. Really frustrating to say the least
And sorry the police refused me as the said I had been arrested 38 times between 1996 and 2002. Only 13 arrests have led to subsequent charges, the last being 15 years ago.
Thanks for the info, I have already sent my application. Wish I watched your video before. I'm also trying to find some hunting buddies, im in London anyone wants to tag along lemme know. Thanks again guys!
I am from Northern Ireland so our laws are slightly less restrictive but my question is... I have a mossberg 590 pump restricted to 2+1. I hear people saying that if you hold an FAC your shotgun can come under section 1 which leaves me unlimited in terms of capacity for my shotgun. Im assuming this is only for club use or practical shotgun and not hunting or pest control?
Well I own a section 1 shotgun it's a Winchester SXP pump. I currently have a 6 + 1 mag tube on it but I also have a 10 + 1 tube. I can use it for club shooting, clay shooting and pest control. It is actually my go to shotgun for Pigeon Shooting.
smith wesson depends on how you lose it if your a dumbass your licence will be taken but if it was stolen out of your safe then you won’t receive punishment
hi. awesome guide. in 2021, they encourage to fill in online form and pay online, 1 referee is required, applicant needs to obtain 'medical' from GP and pay for it, application takes 9-12 months to process. so there are some changes. would you be happy to update the video?
You can do it online now? I had to renew my firearms and shotgun licenses in september 2019 and it was still paper! That's good to know. To be fair you only needed 1 referee when i made this video so it was a mistake on my part, I think I got it confused with my FAC application. I may return to this at some point, I have a lot on my plate these days.
@@srspower yes. probably prompted by the lockdowns. the GP proforma has to be done before application and included along, otherwise application will be returned.
I thought you couldn't own guns in England. if I were to move to England from Canada would they accept my PAL? I got the safety training I also already have rifles and shotguns
It is a bit easier to get a gun in the UK compared to Sweden. Sweden has probably the most restrictive gun law in the EU. Sweden has a point system on how many guns you can have in a normal steel gun cabinet (required), which is usually 20p, where a handgun is 2p and a long gun is 1p. For hunting you will seldom, unless you are a professional, get permits for more than six guns.
Referees don't have to endorse the photographs, and only one referee is required for a shotgun certificate. Good video but at least give the correct information.
+srspower your captions don't show when you watch through the app, it's not the only video on RU-vid giving the wrong info on this but maybe one to revisit, as some police forces are picky when it comes the forms not being filled in correctly.
spn1978 To be fair if you got two referees instead of one I don't think most FEO's would have an issue. My FEO actually went through my application with me during the visit to check all was okay.
I got refused, contacted BASC and they refused to help me as they implied that I only joined them because I knew I would I be refused hence trying to exploit the policy. I joined before I made my application. So anyone trying to do this join first and wait, or just stay out of trouble.
this is interesting. as an American gun owner I wonder if we could use this system or a similar one to help cut down on gun violence. most Americans freak out to think the government knows or has records of the firearms you own
+srspower this I agree with. I personally feel conflicted. I don't want to give up freedom but I feel like there has to be something to do. I wish I had the answers.
As an American also, I believe they should have a safety course for all 1st time firearm owners. That's how they do it in Canada. They have lots of guns up there with relatively little crime.
I'm just wondering, If you own land are you allowed to shoot on it? Basically just shooting on private property. It's a bit too expensive for me at the moment, but in the future I'd probably like to get myself a shotgun for hunting, target shooting and pest control. I'd like to get a Mossberg 590 probably because of it being iconic in Vietnam movies. Too broke to even try at the moment. :D Thanks for the helpful video though.
+Gaming with Mikey! You can shoot a shotgun on any property that you have permission to do so. The only stipulation is that you need to be beyond 50 feet from the centre of a highway and the shot must not leave the boundary. I personally wouldn't go for pump for pest control type purposes but whatever suits you. Thanks for watching :)
Gaming with Mikey! No that is only for section 1 (FAC) applications where you have to show 'good reason' with a SGC all you need to do is meet the criteria.
I am happy to jump through whatever hoops I need to to get a gun. I don't know why people are complaining so much. It doesn't stop you getting a gun. It may be a bit of hassle but it could stop a dangerous person getting a gun.
dog guy It hugely reduces the chances of someone mentally ill or general criminals getting them. The only criminals who tend to have guns are large gangs in city's and they only have them to shoot other gang members.
Caboose Yes, it stops whoever doesn't have the money to spend on a shitty and expensive gun getting one. Normal criminals, opportunists, petty criminals, etc, aren't going to go and get a hand gun if it's rediculouslly expensive to do so (the ammos even more expensive). They have no real need for one, no one here has guns for personal protection so why would they need one to rob you? The consequences are massive. They're much more likely to just buy the drugs which are the reason they're stealing in the first place. Serious gang members and top tier professional criminals are the only ones who buy illigal guns in the UK.
@@M95-v4r awesome :-) technically, in the UK one can buy a shotgun without a license but it would be illegal to own. what is odd, it's ok to own, use and discharge an 'alarm device' which actually shoots shotgun cartridges. bizarre!
Very good vid thanks for demystifying the process. Shooting is something I've always been good at I've owned an air rifle for years and used to love clay pigeon shooting with one of my sisters old boyfriend's on his farm,I don't know who was more upset when they broke up her or me. The only trouble I will have is finding a second person that knows me Doc/ lawyer etc but I'm finally going to apply.
Im thinking about getting into shotguns. I have a couple of questions, do you get much hassle from the police once youre licensed? I could do without old bill on the doorstep to often. Is it legal to walk to and from a permission shotgun in a gun bag?
+Ferret Man There is no reason you will hear from the police again until you renew your application five years later unless of course you commit a crime or get treatment for mental health issues. You can take a shotgun anywhere provided it's in a slip and you have 'good reason' to be in possession of it. I have walked down my high street with my shotgun before when I was taking it to the shop.
Hi mate, this video needs updating as I believe things have changed within the application. 1) You only need ONE photo. 2) Photos do NOT need to be signed by anyone. 3) You only need ONE referree for a SGC. 4) You must also submit a completed official GP form/proforma with your application.
Hi can you help me I’m 14 and have a few shooting people around me but my grandad is selling a 410 and I can buy it but my dad doesn’t want to take me but he will do the paper work yet he doesn’t want to pay out lots of money can you give me a brief clue of what to do before I talk to him best to know your stuff
I got my S/G certificate in 1974 when i was 16, went on to get my FAC when i was 18. No problem at all, no need for cabinet or photo's on your certificate. Gave them up when i was 30 as didn't get much time to go shooting. When i applied for a S/G again when i was in my 40s they turned me down . when i asked about any records about my previous certificates they had no records. Your trying to deal with very unreasonable people that are the height incompetence, best thing is to join BASC to help you
I'm currently on medication for anxiety, as I have been for around a year now. Since I've been on my medication, I've not really had any issues with my mental health - regardless would this be a barrier preventing me from obtaining a Shotgun Licence?
currently, one needs to pay GP to receive a certified medical background regarding firearms. it all depends on the assessment of your GP. as far as i am aware.
Great video. Just one question tho is ot necessary to have yoir cabinet purchased and installed before yoir interview ? Since if the application is denied you have basically wasted your money.
Can some one help me... I'm 15 and I would like to get a shot gun neither one of my parent have a license. Could I still get a license and shoot by myself.
Great video and thanks for the advice. I've just sent off my 201 application for my shotgun. I was cautioned over 10 years ago for a couple of minor drug offences during my teens and drink driving - DR10 for which I banned from driving for a year. To speed up the process and show my honesty I obtained an ACRO from the PNC (Police National Computer) which basically lists anything you have ever done in your past (convictions, cautions, warnings etc.) and attached this to the 201 application. Do you think my past as a teenager over 10 years ago will lead to my application being rejected? Cheers,
@@missmisiowa Hey Michael, in the end I wrote to the Police Force that issued those cautions, explaining the circumstances and they cleared my record. I then notified the firearms office for my county and they issued me with a certificate. So a bit long winded, but well worth the efforts, I'm now cleared of any cautions and small crimes I committed as a youngster and enjoying shooting!
@@Gattsu1986 I’m happy for you. I would love to legally own guns but due to being caught with an illegally owned pistol (possession of a prohibited sec1 firearm plus a separate charge for the ammunition.) I was young and living in south east London and had recently been stabbed..years later im still stuffed as firearms offences stay on your record for life, same as sec18 gbh, murder and manslaughter.
Hello sir. Im new to clay shooting. I've been to 5 clay shooting days with my friend who is very experienced and license holder. I feel confident in my shooting and safety. My question is do i need professional lessons to apply as my local club say u will be refused if i dont take lessons.
The information in this is almost entirely wrong, if you follow this advice you will probably be refused for being a fool. Please just read the form, one photograph, one referee, just read it.
due to being 18 and my mother moving around a lot, ive had no choice but to move with her, i cannot remember all the doctors since i was 8! plus i might not have a medical record since i havnt had to go for a very long time.. will this affect anything? i love shooting but i dont want to be refused due to not knowing my gp's since the last 10 yrs.
If I apply and got a SGC and stay my home could I keep my shotgun in a gun cabinet in my fathers home ? My father doesn't have a SGC but could I install a gun cabinet in his home and keep the gun there ? or would he need to have a SGC before that would be allowed ? (i ask because i stay in town and my father stays in the countryside and so any time im using the gun would be when im at my fathers) thanks and all the best
Thanks for the video. Now looking in to getting my license. I did just note that it says on the paperwork that you only need one referee for shotgun and two referees for firearms. Is this still correct? Cheers Rob
Great video mate, Not sure if you did one for the FAC application... if not would you be able to go through that one too? My wife, on one of my fairly recent birthdays organised a clay shoot with a whole bunch of activities(axe throwing , air rifles, pistols) and we both really enjoyed the clay shooting the pistols and target shooting (I soon after (3 weeks later) bought a £2k air rifle Daystate Panther MK 4 .177 sub 12ftp and have really enjoyed plinking(field target) in my garden (safely). (I have recently been watching more and more 3 gun competitions that I would love to try participate in them too) I am thinking of applying very soon for a FAC license and I wanted to know as in the calibres/gun types/action types/ how many guns/ how much ammo I should ask for. Me and my wife will be applying together so there are 9 guns I have listed for us together(so we can shoot at the same time same calibres/types of gun) they will be shared on both our certificate applications) The gun list is: 2x .22 long rifle pistols, FAC 2x .22 semi auto rifles, FAC 2x .308 bolt actions rifles, FAC 2x semi auto FAC shotguns. FAC 1x Pump action shotgun FAC Are those guns types OK for a first time applicant or are there too many or is it too crazy asking for a .308 off the bat? The amount of ammunition I have asked for, is the total for both myself and my wife included: 2400x .22 300x .308 800x 12 gauge Is that too much? What I can say is, I am relentless and very competitive when it comes to perfection and can see myself sending a LOT of lead down range for both fun and to be a great shooter ;) Are the above TOO much for a first time application for both FAC shotgun and FAC pistols/rifle? I appreciate anyone thoughts on the matter so please let me know honestly. Many thanks
briliant video ! Cheers for that buddy,I just completed the 201 form with your help ! all done apart of one thing that I'm not sure about ( I live in London ) so we obviously got MET here but I don't actually know where to post the paperwork ,any idea ?Cheers ! Best Regardes
but if you're right there the person using your shotgun does not need a certificate correct so only one person in the household would need one if you're going to be with him
I'm in the process of applying and I'm following this video. Do you think the recent happenings will effect my application? I live in the North not London. Could the lurgy event effect my ability to gain a license?
Good video but heres a question for you ! I have had a 7+1 Shotgun added to my section1 FAC I buys shotgun and is then told I cannot but any ammo as none is stated on my FAC as in my 22LR I can hold 600 buy 500 but nothing for 12bore ! phoned firearms dept they say you dont need anything of ticket as you have a shotgun so obviously you can buy ammo for it ! gun shop says nothing on ticket so you cannot buy :( send FAC back and they have now added I can keep 500 rounds of 12bore ammo ! seriously having a laugh they are as I can shoot over 1000 rounds around the farm over a weekend, with a standard SG license I understand there is no limit to ammo held or where you keep it but on section1 totally strangled with ammo regs and it must be locked in separate safe! SG licence you can throw 100,000 rounds under your bed if you want no problems. Alan
If you have a shotgun on your FAC that takes section 2 ammo then a section 1 license is all that is needed to by shotgun carts. Your local shop got it wrong.
Wow I didn't know that in the U.K you have to wait up to six months to get a certificate. Here in Texas it's just general information and in about 30 minutes your able to get your firearm right there and then and go have fun
As firearms certificates are issued by local police forces, it is more or less down to the speed the firearms department process it. Most forces do it in as little as about 2-4 weeks (quick if you think there are only a couple of officers dealing with hundreds or maybe even thousands of applications at once, and have to check every one properly first) and others can take many months. One police force near me was slated by the local papers recently becuase they where taking something stupid like up to 40 weeks to issue licenses, although they have sped it up now I heard.
