It's because drivers try to bait the person following into slowing down then race away making a gap before the drift has started, the judges and the crowd want to see people enter at the same time not with a huge gap between them.

DriftNick Oh ok I understand. But what if the person behind cant keep up due to a lack of power. Because I've seen that before, where the rookies in 600-700hp cars aren't able to keep up in even the lead straightaway before the corner, compared to the top guys that run over 1000hp. Wouldn't the guy with the 1000hp car just get penalized anyway, just because the rookie chasing him can't keep up?

they can all keep up man, Nick is right. The rule is only for the first corner when initiating, as Nick said the lead car drives like 50MHP and right before the first drift corner he slams the gas and creates a big gap between the chase car. This isn't drifting, its trying to get a lead so the chase car can't even have a chance to chase properly. that's the idea behind the rule. hope it helps

+JP Garage just his general ego and how he talks on other drivers, he just seems to be portrayed as rather prideful throughout the video in my personal opinion. I'm into drifting not only for the exhilarating feeling of drifting but because of the people and the friendly, helpful attitude that has come with it, and Chelsea, and some other drivers I've seen who want to compete on this level I don't see have that anymore.

Would have to agree with Rob here. I've personally been around the D1NZ pro series for quite a while now in little New Zealand. And have come across my fair share of drivers, that lack the humility and humble beginnings that most drivers have. I love Chelsea DeNofa's driving style, but also think he has much left to be desired in the personality department. The only reason I'm leaving this message is due to being curious if anyone else felt the same way. We understand he's been dealt the harsh card for mechanical reliabiltiy issues, but unfortunately thats no reason to lash out at others and call them cheats. He has great potential as a driver, but needs to focus more on his Humility & perception. Good things come to those who earn it.
